Lewisville PD is proud to introduce our newest asset to community based policing. The Purple Martin…AKA the Lewisville Police Patrol Bird (LPPB).

As you may know, Lewisville’s official logo features the Purple Martin. It is estimated that more than 50,000 birds return each year to Lewisville, arriving in late February or early March and staying for six months to build nests, raise their young and prepare for their non-stop flight across the Gulf of Mexico to their winter home in Brazil.

The LPPBs will assist officers with observing traffic patterns and pointing out potential bad drivers to the dispatch center.

LPD is proud to bring these critical assets on board to embrace our city logo, and carry out the important mission of community safety! Not only is it helpful to our operation, they don’t need much for happiness. Just some insects to eat, and some sticks for their nest. It’s a win win.

Under the sharp watch of the LPPBs, citizens can rest easy today knowing they are well protected from above.
