A few weeks ago we got these 5 little chicks to add to the coop. Thank goodness they were still in the chick pen during the dog attack. They upgraded to the teenager loft in the coop this week and they’re settling in well! It’ll be a while before we get any eggs from them, but we’re loving seeing how beautiful they’re becoming with their big girl feathers coming in. 🥰

Our new Roadside Farm Stand is at your service! Our two remaining hens have been working hard and laying an egg EVERY DAY! We still have 1 dz eggs available, along with blueberry jam and muscadine jelly.

Who needs some sweet pups! We managed to trap two of the three assassins from the chicken massacre. Y’all - they are sooooo sweet! We’ve been looking for a farm dog, and I would gladly keep these but they’ve already figured out how fun chickens are, so I can’t keep them. Someone please take them far away from my coop! Otherwise animal control is taking them to the pound tomorrow. They’re soo sweet! Collars but no name or contact info. I’ve put out feelers in the community and no one has claimed them.
White one is a larger male but was giving me all the kisses, and was so sweet with Finn.
The brown one may still be a puppy, she’s a smaller girl.

This is Cheryl - as in Cheryl Crow. We named her that in the hopes that she would fake our hawks into thinking she’s a crow and they would stay away from the girls. This was supposed to be a “Welcome to the Flock” post for this sweet girl, but instead it’s comes with a little more of a sad message.
Poor Cheryl, and 8 of our other ladies were brutally murdered by some stray dogs this past weekend. We tried our best to save them all, but they were just hurt too bad. It breaks our heart - these girls were our pets and friends.
Because of that our egg supply is going to slow down a little, we currently only have 2 hens left.
We have two dozen eggs right now from the last gathering of our full flock. Please let me know if you’d like them. As it is, we will only have about a dozen eggs per week until we can find some more laying hens.

Secondly - if you live in the Oak Mountain area and have seen these three dogs running around, please let me know. Or call Animal Control and let them know they are the dogs that have attacked our chickens, they say they will come out immediately to apprehend them. We are hoping to find the owners and find justice for our sweet girls.

New man in the coop!
We had to rehome our Silkie rooster because he kept attacking us all. Now we have this sweet guy who is taking his new role seriously. Hopefully he can keep the hawks away 🤞🏻

Look at this tiny little egg we collected this week! And then the next box over we had this huge honker of an egg. Normal sized green one for comparison.

The figs have finally decided to ripen! I was afraid the cold got them last week, but here they are looking delicious as ever. They’re only good for a day or two, so come grab them quick!
