Did you know…..Dr. Stramel is also an Equine Acupuncturist?

5 benefits of equine acupuncture for improving the well-being of performance horses:

1. Pain Relief: Acupuncture can help alleviate pain, particularly in conditions like arthritis, laminitis, and musculoskeletal issues. It stimulates the release of endorphins and other neurotransmitters that act as natural painkillers.

2. Improved Circulation: Acupuncture enhances blood flow to targeted areas, which promotes faster healing of injuries and reduces inflammation.

3. Stress Reduction: It can help horses relax, reducing anxiety and stress by balancing the nervous system and releasing calming neurotransmitters like serotonin.

4. Enhanced Immune Function: Regular acupuncture sessions can boost the horse’s immune system, helping to prevent illness and improve overall health and vitality.

5. Support for Digestive Health: Horses with gastrointestinal issues like colic or ulcers may benefit from acupuncture, which can regulate digestive functions and improve nutrient absorption.

Animals suffer from pain just like people do. Pain comes in many forms: surgical pain, arthritis and cancer related pain, just to name a few. Acute pain is obvious and distressing. Chronic pain can be subtle, and masked as “getting old” or “slowing down.” Old age is not a disease, but pain is.

TGIF - Let's talk about aggressive dog attacks for just a quick moment!

Understanding the Importance of Safety in Veterinary Clinics: As a community dedicated to the health and well-being of our pets, it’s essential to recognize the risks and challenges that veterinarians and clinic staff face daily. One significant concern is the potential for dog attacks, which can lead to serious injuries and trauma.

3 Reasons Dog Attacks Can Happen?
1) Fear and Anxiety: Dogs may experience stress or fear in unfamiliar environments, leading to defensive or aggressive behavior.
2) Pain or Discomfort: When dogs are in pain or feel threatened, they may react by lashing out.
3) Protectiveness: Some dogs may become overly protective of their owners or perceive veterinary staff as a threat.

3 ways you can help?
1) Preparation: Inform the veterinary staff about any past incidents of aggression or triggers your dog may have.
2)Training: Regular training and socialization can help reduce anxiety and aggression in dogs.
3)Proper Restraint: Use a leash, muzzle, or other appropriate restraint when visiting the clinic, if necessary.

Remember, a safe environment benefits everyone – our pets, their owners, and the dedicated veterinary staff who care for them!

Why Does All This Matter?

Prevention of Injuries: When veterinary staff are informed about a pet’s potential for aggression, they can take the necessary precautions to prevent injuries to themselves, the pet, and other animals in the clinic.

Customized Care: Understanding a pet’s behavior allows veterinarians to tailor their approach, minimizing stress and fear for the animal, which can often mitigate aggressive responses.

How to Communicate Effectively:
Be Honest: If your pet has a history of aggressive behavior or has shown signs of anxiety in the clinic, let the staff know. This information helps them prepare and respond appropriately.

Describe Triggers: Inform the staff about specific triggers that might provoke your pet, such as other animals, certain types of handling, or medical procedures.

Due to the nature of our practice, we have a policy against treating animals that display strong aggressive behavior.

We hope you found this post informational and that you all have a great weekend! Stay safe!
