Finally catching up on our results from sunshine series 🌞🌵🏜️

Shoutout to .eq for two great weeks of riding! She and Marvel were consistent in the 3’3 medals to earn several top 3 placings, and they stepped up to the 3’6 for the first time in top form, finishing 🥈 in the CPHA Jr Medal week 1 🌟

She also got the opportunity to ride Essie Starlight to a 4th place finish in the 1.05 Jr Jumpers. Thank you for the ride on Essie! 🤍

A thought-provoking read.

Most horses pass from one human to another - some horsemen and women are patient and forgiving, others are rigorous and demanding, others are cruel, others are ignorant.

Horses have to learn how to, at the minimum, walk, trot, canter, gallop, go on trails and maybe jump, to be treated by the vet, all with sense and good manners.

Talented Thoroughbreds must learn how to win races, and if they can't do that, they must learn how to negotiate courses and jump over strange obstacles without touching them, or do complicated dance like movements or control cattle or accommodate severely handicapped children and adults in therapy work.

Many horses learn all of these things in the course of a single lifetime. Besides this, they learn to understand and fit into the successive social systems of other horses they meet along the way.

A horse's life is rather like twenty years in foster care, or in and out of prison, while at the same time changing schools over and over and discovering that not only do the other students already have their own social groups, but that what you learned at the old school hasn't much application at the new one.

We do not require as much of any other species, including humans.

That horses frequently excel, that they exceed the expectations of their owners and trainers in such circumstances, is as much a testament to their intelligence and adaptability as to their relationship skills or their natural generosity or their inborn nature. That they sometimes manifest the same symptoms as abandoned orphans - distress, strange behaviors, anger, fear - is less surprising than that they usually don't.

No one expects a child, or even a dog to develop its intellectual capacities living in a box 23 hours a day and then doing controlled exercises the remaining one.

Mammal minds develop through social interaction and stimulation.

A horse that seems "stupid", "slow", "stubborn", etc. might just have not gotten the chance to learn!

Take care of your horses and treasure them.

Franktown Meadows is eternally grateful to the staff, volunteers, and friends who rallied at a moment’s notice to efficiently evacuate 50 horses. The Young Horse Show Series is designed to provide sporthorse breeders as well as owners, trainers and riders of all disciplines an affordable show venue to introduce and evaluate their young horses to the show environment and “put on necessary mileage” with appropriate and special classes suitable to the proper development of young horses. It is also intended to create a sales environment where numerous young horses are in a single location and their talents displayed in front of a buying audience.

When you get an invitation to ride at Capital Challenge (even when it’s only five days out and you’re driving to a show 🤣), you have to say yes! MacLean’s first “indoor” experience on Cambridge far exceeded expectations. She was 6th 💚 over fences, 9th 🤍 in the handy, and 8th 🤎 in the WCHR Pony Challenge. Fridays are eq days! Noah has been working extra hard to prep all the kids for the show season. And needless to say, the kids have been leaning in to learn.These clinic like sessions include setting a major medal course (this week, maclay 2023), watching Noah demonstrate (a visual is always great), and then working on eq course skills (this week, leading rein, landing on the correct lead after every jump, and getting the correct stride). @_sterlingsilverstable_@nkn_jumps@nkn_sporthorses@franktownmeadows@macleanlynne@nataliemari3_
