Yes it's HOT! And yes it's going to be HOT.

Your outdoor animals need COOL water, cool shade and a place to survive.

There is no reason to take your dog on your errands and leave them in your car, just don't. They are good waiting for you at home in the a/c

Pavement and concrete is SUPER HOT. It will burn their paws quickly.

Animal abuse and neglect is a CRIME.

If you see an animal in distress, notify law enforcement immediately, not 2 days later or after a week. Ours will get ahold of us.

We will have zero tolerance on these issues and you will be charged. If it's too hot for you, its too hot for them.

06/16/2024

We are looking for experienced dog groomers. If you have groomed dogs professionally, we want you to be part of our team! Sign-on bonuses are available to qualified candidates!

We had a great visit and a great donation from Girl Scout Troop #71804 today. They sold their hearts out on cookies and voted to donate some of the proceeds to help the animals! They have great leaders and they enjoyed the shelter tour and their donation will help save animals! If you see them out and about tell them what a great job they did!

Marshmallow and Taffy were found in a bushhog and came in with an upper respiratory infection. A week of clavamox and eye ointment did not stave it off, so off to Dr. Billy for convenia, eye drops, B-12 and an anti-inflammatory. Please send them some good vibes as this seems to be a very resistant infection. They are NOT available for adoption until vet cleared . Thank you all for your continued support.

Update. No longer in need of rescue.

Please share. If you know this dog it is hanging out on Old Woman's Club Road. Also, if anyone in town is missing a white doodle and a white doodle with black spots they are running in the area behind the Armory, Churchill's, Pylates and William's body shop. They are muddy, but groomed, have collars, but will have to be trapped because they are scared. They had owners at some point and culvert dived after 30 minutes of chasing. We are working them but if you are missing them they are in that area.

Please take note! SCAMMERS! We were reached out to by a gentleman from Columbia, MO who paid to buy a blonde pug from a lady who stated she was in Caruthersville. He was given a place to meet that was a bogus address. Upon second contact he was told the shelter address was the "USDA" and we were holding up the sale. He only had a first name and we are unaware of any licensed breeders in town. ALL breeders in MO must hold a license from the MO Department of Agriculture.

PLEASE:

NEVER send money to someone without seeing the dog

ALWAYS check with MO Department of AG and see if they are licensed

CHECK for references, see if there is a licensed rescue or shelter in area, they may know something

We are sad this man lost his money to a scammer. We advised him to report to the attorney general, Department of agriculture and police.

This is just advice if you are looking to buy online. It happens more than we know

Many thanks to our great prosecuting attorney for filing charges to seek ! All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty. Before you ask why a misdemeanor, let me explain that abuse and neglect in MO is a misdemeanor unless the animal is "maimed and tortured while alive causing death" or it is a second offense. When you have a good legal system, charging the first offense helps get the abuser in the system. I can't change the laws but am so grateful to Caruthersville Police, Officers Jon Brotz and Corey Vaughn, our Pemiscot County Prosecuting Attorney and all of you who have donated, shared and prayed.

Bambi has a long way to go. Her next step will be a couple of surgeries June 20/21 before the strong meds start on treating the tick Bourne illnesses and heart worms.

She is eating prescription critical care food daily and taking her other antibiotics to get her strong enough for her procedures.

Thanks to Caruthersville Police Office Michael Sanders as charges will be presented next week on the abandoner of the momma and 9 puppies.

We submit charges every time we have a case that warrants. We have wonderful cooperation with local law enforcement and our prosecuting attorneys both municipal and state.

We cannot say enough about all the support we receive from you. Not 1 animal could be saved without our supporters. Never forget, a share, a prayer, a donation of any size, and just kind words save these animals. We are just the facilitators.

That being said. We need Purina dry dog and puppy food. We have so many animals we run through it so fast. We can mix Pedigree dry puppy and dog also.

If you see something, say something!

Out law enforcement and supporters rock!

So.....Erma and I took a call out at 3 p.m. and came back at 3:15. We found a paper p*e pad in front of the shelter and started looking for a kitten, or something small. Around the side, in a trap we had cleaned, in full sun and the heat on hot concrete, we found a momma dog and 9 pups.

We called Caruthersville Police, and Officer Sanders ran our cameras back (it wasn't hard to go through 15 min) and 2 cars dumped this mom and pups at the shelter.

The case is under criminal investigation.

Before you say "at least they dumped them at the shelter" consider this...

We were NOT there. What if I had gone to my meeting and NOT come back? The trap is heavy and hot. The mom was thin the puppies were distressed and WE HAVE NO ROOM.

Abandoning an animal is a crime. Just leaving them and not knowing when they will be found is a crime.

We are WAY over our limits! Now we have no history, no surrender form.

Do NOT dump or abandon an animal anywhere!

This matter has been turned over to the police and the prosecuting attorney. Maybe think about the welfare of the dogs. If we had been called we could have offered food and help and maybe asked for rescue. Now we have no choice but to squeeze them in and hold for disposition and treat them as we always do. 10 more vaccines, wormer, help for mom....its just on and on....struggling to squeeze them in, repair kennels and just get everyone their 2 times out a day is becoming rough.

So please don't say it's ok to just abandon them because the animal shelter was locked up, because it is not.

Bambi update! She had her first follow-up appointment this week. Here's what we know:

She gained 7 pounds! *good*
Her parasites and hookworms are gone and her red blood count is up. *good*
Her chin wound is slowly healing *good*

Now the flip side: she tested positive for heartworms, lyme disease and anaplasmosis (both tick bourne diseases)

We are not sure if she is pregnant and she is not strong enough to be spayed

Part of her cut off tail will have to be amputated, but again she is not strong enough for surgery yet.

She can't take the doxycycline she needs for the 3 problems above if she is pregnant or until she gets stronger. By a little bit later we can test for pregnancy, hopefully start the doxy or spay her and amputate the tail.

We are moving in the right direction and it's all because of your support, prayers, shares and positive vibes.

Right now she is becoming more confident, eating high calorie food and still on antibiotics. We are more optimistic but she does have a long road ahead.

Thanks to all of you! We will keep you updated!

*******WARNING. SOME PHOTOS MAY BE DISTURBING******

Meet Bambi. On Tuesday Caruthersville Police were called out for a dog in distress. They called us upon arrival and we arrive to find Bam, now Bambi. Thanks to CPD for their excellent action Bambi was seized under exigent circumstances and rushed to Malden Veterinary Clinic. Aside from the malnutrition and dehydration. Bambi was severely anemic and had a host of parasites and bacterial infections. Bambi spent time in the clinic receiving IV fluids and meds and has been returned to our custody with medication and follow up visits. There are several issues still awaiting treatment if she continues on a road to improving. HUGE credit to CPD for responding so quickly and filing with the Pemiscot County Prosecuting Attorney. If you see something, say something. Bambi probably would not have survived another 24 hours. If you can donate a button is provide or you can mail a check to P.O. Box 1139 Caruthersville, MO 63830. Our paypal is [email protected]. Please share and keep Bambi in prayers and positive vibes.
