This isn't a message we thought we'd be writing anytime soon, and there's no easy way to say it, so we're just going to say it. Our first litter of 2024 is our only litter of 2024 and our last litter of babies. In other words, we're not going to be breeding anymore. 😔

What you see on social media is typically the highlight reels, with some of the heartache and hard times being shared. What you don't see is everything that being a good breeder sucks out of you.
- Planning trips around when we hope to have babies
- Daily chores instead of TV, Reading, downtime, snuggles on the sofa, etc.
- No family visits because you have babies on the way, mamas to breed, little ones at home, etc.
- Family emergency - who can we trust to house sit? How many babies do we have? The guilt that comes with asking someone else to watch and take care of these creatures that YOU decided to have in your life
- Up all night - sometimes multiple nights - waiting for mamas to go into labor then trying to function the next day at work. And bottle feeding - oh man the bottle feeding if it's needed
- Emergency C- Sections - Do they really need one? Should I take them in? Have I tried everything I can?

We both work full time outside of the cattery, and our parents are getting older and having health issues associated with that...and having living creatures dependent on us makes us way less flexible than we'd like to be able to help. They live states away, so it's not as simple as driving for a few hours to help out.

Our children are also getting older, and we know we only have a few years left with them at home. They're amazing, and they have been so incredibly helpful with the cattery and we couldn't do it without them. But they have their own lives and we want to enjoy every moment we have left with them at home. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

The final kicker was realizing I'm allergic to these amazing animals. Remi's a needy mama and after her babies were born it took several days of antibiotic and steroid creams to clear up the eczema on my face. 😳

All of this to say it's been a wild ride and we're so thankful for you joining us on it. To our CuddleRags fam, please stay in touch and we love you. 💖

Remi is due anytime now!!! Supposedly we're getting more than one baby this time so fingers crossed for a healthy and easy delivery for mama! 💖 She's extra snuggly and is demanding lots of extra attention right now, so we're anxious for her to have some babies to snuggle up with!

Celeste welcomed 3 new little ones into the world!!! 💖💖 There's one we're watching closely as it's extra tiny (and its siblings are extra big), but it's nursing and active so we're hoping for the best! We'll post a video soon and you'll see what we mean!

🐾 Exciting News! 🐾 Our lovely cat, Celeste, is expecting a new litter of fur babies! 😻🤰 She's due late next week, and we couldn't be more thrilled!💖

As most of you know, Celeste's last delivery was a bit challenging, and we narrowly avoided a c-section. She's had a thorough check-up, but we'd greatly appreciate your thoughts and prayers for a smooth and safe delivery this time around. 💪🏼🙏🏼💖

I'm really late in sharing this, but when I say the best part of what we do is meeting amazing people who become part of our CuddleRags family, that's not just a marketing ploy. One of our family members PAINTED THIS, framed it, and sent it to us. This is our original queen Cleo who started our entire journey with breeding. These little toddlers accidentally turned on the roomba, and it scared them so much they all took to high ground to make sure it wouldn't attack them! 🤪😂 it's not often all of them are in the same place at the same time for a photo op, so I had to take full advantage! 💖💖

Between taking a few days off, and Esmy surprising us a little bit early, we're going to skip the pregnancy announcement and go right to the birth announcement with 5 tiny new babies who seem to be healthy and vocal so far! 🐾 Stop the press! Our lovely Miss America is now a proud mama of 3 precious kittens! 😍 We were overjoyed to see how easily she delivered her little ones in just over an hour from the start of contractions, especially after how the last few mamas have been! 😂 Watching her snuggle up with her new family is melting our hearts 💕 We can't wait to see them grow and share their adorable moments with all of you! 😻

The fun part of having so many babies at once is when you need to switch rooms around so you have a comfortable quiet spot for the next mama to give birth. We try to keep everything the same, but sometimes moving them means the mamas will find their own spot in the new room they feel the most secure with their babies. 💖 Nytiri and Phoenix both wanted to be in a corner (although Nytiri's spot looks a lot more comfortable!) and Hershey didn't move her babies, but at less than 2 weeks old they were already escaping so we had to put them in an actual small pen so they stay contained and safe! 😻

🎉 Exciting news! 🐱 Phoenix has given birth to two beautiful kittens! In what seems to be the trend for this round of babies, it was a long labor of course. 🤦‍♀️😹 The first baby arrived quickly, and we had to wait almost 5 hours for the second, but it was well worth the wait. Phoenix is such a needy mama who loves her humans almost a little 𝘵𝘰𝘰 much, but she's absolutely amazing with her babies. We can't wait to see these little furballs grow up and explore the world around them. ❤️

🐾🐱 Introducing the newest members of our furry family! Nytiri finally gave birth to her adorable kittens after taking her sweet time, and let me tell you, it was worth the wait! Even though she kept me up all night, I couldn't be happier that she's now a proud mama to these healthy little ones. I had to take a nap at 7:30am before work, but seeing them all doing amazing is totally worth it. Nytiri is definitely one of the best mamas we have and I'm so excited to see how these little furballs will grow up! 🥰

Hershey, the ultimate mama cat who's been taking care of her little ones despite feeling tired. 💤We lost our little guy who didn't like eating, but we gave him all the love we could during his time here.😿The rest of the babies are doing great, and we've even heard some purrs while they're eating!🥹 I tried to capture it on video, but Hershey's purrs were just too loud. We're grateful for this amazing mama and the love she shows her babies.

More big news from our feline family! 🐾👶

We are thrilled to announce that Phoenix and Nytiri, are expecting kittens this coming week! In the craziness of last week, we didn't get around to posting this announcement, but the chaos will be continuing as we eagerly await the arrival of more furry little bundles of joy.

Phoenix and Nytiri have been taking turns napping and preparing for motherhood, and we're excited to see what babies they bring to us. 😻We're keeping our fingers crossed for a less eventful week and plenty of time for rest, relaxation, and snuggles. If you could cross your fingers for us as well, we'd appreciate it! 😬😉💕

Introducing the newest little nugget to the CuddleRags Famil! 🐱💕

We are over the moon to announce that Celeste has given birth to a single beautiful kitten, and we couldn't be more thrilled! It was a tough journey for Celeste, as she needed a vet appointment to get contractions going. Thanks to our amazing vet and some good meds, we were able to prevent her from needing a c-section.

We knew it was only a matter of time before Celeste started labor as her milk was coming in, but she held out for three days! That meant I got to spend some extra quality time sleeping on a dog bed next to her, keeping a watchful eye on her every move.

We are so grateful that both mama and baby are doing well. We were so worried that a) little nugget wasn't going to make it and b) Celeste was going to need a c-section. When she starting having contractions - I was so thankful. And when this little one was born and was moving around, I got so emotional because I wasn't sure we were going to have that kind of happy ending. 🌟🌈

This outcome was 💯worth sleeping on the dog bed, and alarms every 30 minutes for 2 nights! 💕

🐾🐱 Exciting news! Hershey and Captain have welcomed 7 gorgeous kittens into the world! 😍

One of our little ones is having a bit of trouble latching and doesn't seem to like formula, so we've placed it with Celeste for now to help it get the nourishment they need. We're keeping a close eye on them all and will update you as they grow and develop their unique personalities.

Now for her birth story. 😻 If you read my last post, Hershey was an exhausting adventure! Tuesday night she started showing signs of labor being imminent, so I slept on the sofa in her room, and set an alarm to check on her throughout the night. Tuesday night, Wednesday morning, Wednesday, Wednesday night, no babies. I said ok, if we don't have contractions by Thursday, I'm taking her into the vet. Thursday at 12:51am she had her first contraction, so baby vigil began in earnest. 1:54am second contraction. 2:52 am baby 1️⃣, and baby 4️⃣ was delivered at 3:49am. We 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 do x-rays to see how many babies the mamas are expected to have, so we knew the vet said 5, maybe 6. At this point, I knew we were waiting on at least one more baby, so I settled in to keep watch. 2 hours later at 5:41 am baby 5️⃣ entered the world with number 6️⃣ about 30 minutes later at 6:13am.

By the time babies and mama were settled in and bedding was changed out, it was time for my daughter and husband to go to work, and for me to get ready to start my work day as well. When my daughter got home from work, she hung out with mama and babies because that's half the fun of having them, right? 💕 Next thing you know, I'm in a meeting and she runs out saying "MOM! HERSHEY JUST HAD ANOTHER BABY". This was around 11:30 am....5 hours later! This is absolutely unheard of, at least for us and our mamas, and we were in absolute shock and disbelief! Hershey made a grand entrance into motherhood that we will 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 forget. 😻

This is a long post, so bear with me. 😻I've been truly fortunate that most people who choose to join our CuddleRags family really understand what it means to be a good and responsible breeder, and to love these babies as our babies and not as a business or investment, or even just a hobby. I wanted to share just a glimpse of my reality and a bit of what the last few days have looked like for our family.

Starting Tuesday evening, Hershey was showing signs of labor being imminent, so I chose to sleep on the sofa in the room with her, setting alarms for every hour to check on her. Of course, setting alarms means you're nervous, and you sleep a fraction of the time in between, but I digress. Little stinker didn't have any babies, and I woke up to a kiss from my husband as he was leaving for work. I got up and got ready for work myself, and my son and I kept watch over her during the day.

As we got back to evening, still no babies, and as I was planning to sleep on the sofa again, my daughter says "My stuff is already in there - I'll watch her tonight and you get some sleep." 💞 When my husband came to bed around midnight, I checked the cameras and watched Hershey for a bit, and caught her first contraction 10 minutes before my daughter's alarm was set. I went downstairs and sent my daughter to bed, and settled in for babies. I'll share her birth story soon, but suffice it to say I was up until my husband and daughter left for work, and then I had to start my day as well! You see, it's not just the deliveries - it's making sure mama is doing ok, are the babies latching, do any seem to be struggling, changing out the bedding, giving mama wet food and making sure she's completely taken care of.

By that night, I had hit a wall, so we had ramen noodles for dinner. As I was dreaming of bed, we noticed Celeste's milk was coming in, so time to start another round of watching! My son stayed in the bathroom with her so I could get a little bit of sleep, and then woke me up at 4am saying he'd lasted as long as he could, and I took over.

What you see in this photo is a dog bed with blankets and a sofa pillow piled on to make it tolerable to be by her side all night. You see, I know her labors usually progress quickly, and I didn't want to leave her alone. Another night with alarms every 45 minutes. Another night with no babies. Another day struggling through work, and my family helping to pick up the slack and help me to try to get snippets of sleep. A night of contractions starting, and alarms every 30 minutes...and then a morning of a vet visit for some help (her birth story will follow soon as well).

So this pic seemed like the perfect things to share this evening. I'm a cat mom...and an exhausted mom, fur mom, human mom, wife, employee, friend, etc. This is a family affair and we're all involved and trying to help carry the load with each other. I'm a helicopter mom for them and I refuse to let them experience labor on their own - part of it is in case they need help, but the other part is support and watching them bring babies into this world. But these are the pieces you don't see - when we're exhausted and running on fumes and emotions are high and your bed is a dog bed on the floor in the bathroom after it's already been a sofa in a hot room to keep babies warm. These days and nights are hard no matter what, but keep in mind that for most of us, this isn't our only job, and being a fur mama isn't our only role. I'm so thankful that my husband and children are such a huge support and huge part of this cattery - without them, CuddleRags wouldn't exist. And these are the seasons where there's no such thing as balance - it's all just survival...for us and our families. 😻

Captain is available! He had a place to go, but the dog he would have been placed with became ill and since the dog is older it was rightly decided it's best to not stress him out any with a new addition!!! Captain does well with dogs if they have manners (he follows 2 of our dogs around, but isn't a huge fan of Ivy, our obnoxious pup 😂) but we think it's best if he goes to a home with no other cats or small children. He's the sweetest boy as you can see in the video but it can take retired breeders some time to adjust, although he's done very well here! He got neutered in early February, and we're just asking for some funds towards the cost of his vet fees. If you think you can provide the right home for him and are willing to be patient with him, please reach out and let's chat! 💖💖

Celeste is one of the best mama cats. 💖 She's always making biscuits and loving on her babies, and cleaning them. She had 3 babies this time, but as you can see one is extra tiny, so we're keeping watch and hoping g for the best.
