Hi friends! I have a crazy new update! I'm switching over most of my business to my new page, Manes and Tales Photography! Please head on over there and start following along to get updates and promotions and all kinds of fun things.

People always ask me “how did you DO that”, so I thought it would be nice to pull the veil back a little here on this page. I really enjoy this image because it’s so different from the traditional. This image was a lucky mixture of my lighting and the perfect amount of dust in the air at the barn. One fancy horse, one barn door with beautiful sunlight, one incredibly portable Godox AD100Pro sitting quite a bit behind the horse, and a bit of “creative post production” to hide the buckets and tack boxes in the background and voila! An image.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I’ve been at a bit of a crossroads, photography-wise. Recently, I’ve found myself putting my camera down as I contemplate the direction I want to take. It’s been a very reflective past few months.

With that in mind, I was caught a bit off-guard when a friend asked if I could photograph her horse. I hadn’t yet met her beautiful mare, Freya, but I was already intrigued. I agreed to pick up my camera and come to the barn. I’ve photographed horses before, although I haven’t quite jumped full footed into the horse photography world. Because I am an intense horse person myself (if you want me to talk, ask me about my horse), I’m very comfortable with horses, horse people, and barns in general. Horses + Photography + Aurora really is a no-brainer, but somehow, it’s never really happened.

So, I found myself going to the barn, aRiv and trusty AD100Pro in hand and ready to go, and got myself ready. And… we had a blast. Truly, this session was the inspiration I needed to pick my camera back up and consider what comes next in this zany journey of mine. I’m still not entirely sure where this is going, but here’s to hoping it includes a lot more ponies!

Did you know that one of my specializations is insect macro photography. Thats right, my specialties are babies, pets, and bugs! This guy is a tussock moth caterpillar. Can you see its head and antenna? He doesn’t have claws, but he does sting, so don’t touch!

Isn’t this girl just beautiful? She’s .so.Prix’s lovely girl and well loved by all who know her. When she was a yearling, she was rescued from a kill pen, starving and with a dull coat. Look at her now! She’s come a long way and become a not-too-fat and happy six year old beauty queen. ❤️

This guy was a barrel racer in a past life, before his current person. Now he lives a very happy life as a pleasure horse doing both English and Western, and, during these hot days, a lot of ba****ck hacking. He's got a lot of fabulous personality and is a big sweetheart at his core.

I started asking about riding horses when I was very small. I would toddle around on my bike, pretending it was an elegant steed.  It would take a lot of asking and convincing, but eventually my parents enrolled me into riding lessons with my very first four legged partner.  Since then, I have had the opportunity to work with world class trainers in multiple disciplines, including western, dressage, vaulting, and hunter jumpers.  Horses have always been at the forefront of my brain, even when I wasn’t in a time or place in my life where I could ride regularly. 
 
Last year, when I met this beautiful Akhal Teke boy, I couldn’t quite believe he could be mine, but somehow a dream of a year later, we’re going strong.  And he’s just been amazing.  He and I share quite a few personality traits.  Both of us are disciplined and focused on what we do, but we goof around with each other.  We’re both hilariously socially awkward and often miss the punchline, but we enjoy being around other people and horses and trying new things.  He’s made me remember why a heart horse is so special, and I’m so excited to share his first fancy photos taken by le moi.  You can see all the casual phone photos and video and a few other fancies taken by other photographers and follow our journey at our personal Instagram at

World, meet Xander. Xander is a lovely haflniger gelding who is the sweetest goofball at the barn. He belongs to the fabulous and was a pleasure to photograph. Don't you love his hair?
