What is FOG and Why Should I Care?
FOG stands for Fats, Oils, and Grease. FOG comes from meat fats in cooking, cooking oil, lard, butter, gravy, sauces and salad dressings, sour cream and other foods high in fat.

Why should I care?
FOG can harden in pipes and cause blockages that can lead to sewer backups and overflows, resulting in costly repairs for both you and the city.

Here's how you can help:
Cool it. Can it. Trash it. Never pour FOG down sinks or into toilets.
• Scrape food, sauces, and grease from plates, pots, pans, and utensils into a trash can. Then wipe with a paper towel before washing or placing it into a dishwasher.
• Let grease cool, pour into a sturdy sealable container, then place the container in the trash for disposal.
• Reduce the use of your garbage disposal by using a strainer in sink drains to collect food scraps and empty the strainer into the trash or compost plant-based scraps.
