Our lovable boy, Skip, has had some sad times in his life. Skip was adopted in June after a long shelter stay, and now finds himself back at the shelter because his beloved owner passed away recently😭. He doesn't understand why he's back again and where his mom is. Skip is a friendly, 2 year old who loves activity and making the most out of life. He is super smart and he LOVES to play ball. And while he loves activity, he also loves to hang out with you after a good romp or play session.

Skip would be too much for young children. Other dogs are a case-by-case basis. Call the shelter at 207-743-8679 to learn more about Skippy. Fill out our application at www.responsiblepetcare.org/dogs - an approved application is required for a meeting.

Sassy Pants is one of our many adult cats who is eligible for a $50 discount off her adoption fee!
[All adult cats (age 1-8 years) have their adoption fees reduced by $50 until August 15th!]
Miss Sassy Pants lives up to her name! She is a very sweet girl who can have a short fuse at times. She is not good with other animals and is looking to be your only pet in an adult home. But she's soooo beautiful, you could gaze at her all day and your life would be complete.
Visit her and all our other cats during our open hours (Fri/Sat/Sun 12-4) or by appointment on other days.

Ollie, day 405
Ollie says he knows he'll be getting out the shelter soon and he's ready to hit the road.
Ollie is a sweet, deaf boy who has been at the shelter for 405 days. He has been adopted briefly a couple times and returned. He is looking for his true forever home.

Hi there! My name is Kiwi 🥝! I am two years old and came to this wonderful place as a surrender in April due to no fault of my own. I have quickly won over the hearts of every employee, volunteer and visitors with my cute little face (they tell me every day how cute I am.) I am very small for my age weighing in at just over five pounds. I have had experiences with other cats and did not care for their company so I would much rather be your one and only. I’ve never met a dog and am not sure how I would react. I love people of all ages and have tons of love to give if you are willing to return the favor. Sweet Diego, we could talk for hours on end about how sweet this boy is. He's an older guy who is about 10 years old and came to us as a stray in March. He is very loving with people but not so much with other cats or we assume dogs. He loves to have his head scratched and could probably sleep in your lap all day and then some. Looking for a quick, easy and affordable way to help animals at the GAHS and in our community? Consider donating one or two of this week’s items.

Bleach, paper towels and soft dog treats are always in demand here and the shelter, and with times being hard on many pet owners in the community, our pet pantry is giving out more cat food and litter than ever before.

All donations, no matter the size, are always appreciated!

Back in February, we posted all our black cats who had been waiting the longest for homes. All of those have been adopted except our Pet of the Week, BooBoo. She has been at the shelter since July 16th, 2022.
BooBoo is a very sweet girl who enjoys love and attention and will definitely let you know when she is done with the attention. She will often come right up to the front of the cage for some love. She is aggressive towards other cats which leads us to believe she will do better as an only pet in an adults only home. We are looking for a special barn home for this grouchy older gentleman. He is currently at a shelter where he isn't thriving. He prefers to be outside and doesn't like to be cornered or pestered. His ideal home would be a nice barn where he can come and go as he pleases and get attention on his own terms when he is in the mood for it. He doesn't prefer other cats but may do okay with another outdoor cat that won't bother him. No small children for this guy, he knows what he doesn't like and will scratch to communicate it.
