We, at Dairyland Veterinary Service in Casco, wanted to help make all fair, show and cattle exhibitors with LACTATING DAIRY animals aware of the H5N1 testing that needs to be done before your checking in at an event. This goes into effect June 19, 2024. The test(s) for each animal need to be done by a vet from the clinic or supervised by a vet from the clinic. These tests need to be done 7 days prior to your entrance. The testing will need to be done before every show, fair or exhibit you plan on having any LACTATING DAIRY animals. Beef cows do NOT need a test. Negative results have to in hand or you will not be able to enter your animal(s). For an example, our Kewaunee County Fair, July 11-14, checking in is Wednesday the 10th, you will need to have your animals tested between 7/3/24 and 7/5/24 to ensure that we get results back by 7/9/24. And a reminder that we are CLOSED on 7/4/24 for the Fourth of July holiday. The cost of the testing for us is your service call to come out, the time it takes to collect the sample(s) and the shipping of the sample. If you have to have a rush shipping on any sample it will be an extra shipping cost. You will be reimbursed for these cost through the USDA.
