Keeping your pet active during the colder months can be tricky, but maintaining a healthy weight is crucial for their overall wellness.

For our dog patients, we recommend indoor tug-of-war, indoor fetch, and interactive toys.

For our cat patients, additional cardboard boxes never hurt – along with laser pointers, birdwatch stations, and interactive toys.

What are some indoor activities your pet loves to engage with? Share with us in the comments!

Routine physical exams are great for checking your pet’s heart, lungs, eyes, and ears, but what about their internal health?

Annual blood panels help us assess internal health including liver and kidney function, metabolic disease, and blood counts. Diagnostic tests provide valuable insight into changes in their health over time and allow us to identify illnesses early which can lead to faster treatment and often a better prognosis

💉 Schedule your pet’s wellness exam with us so we can run blood panels and help keep your pet healthy as can be!

With the holiday season in full effect, we know that there may be treats on your pet’s wish list. We also know that you are likely tired of the toothbrushing battle. Which is why we recommend dental treats!
Dental treats are a great way to reduce the severity of periodontal disease.

We urge our pet parents to look for the VOHC Seal of Acceptance and to avoid hard treats such as synthetic or natural bones.

🎁 Tis the Season for Giving! 🎁

At Casper Animal Medical Center, we know that unexpected medical expenses can be a big worry for pet owners. That’s why we created our Cash for Critters fund—to help ease the financial burden of those unforeseen veterinary costs for our established clients and their beloved pets.

Now through December 31st, we are raising funds for Cash for Critters. If you're able to donate, you'll have the chance to sign a paw print that will be displayed in our lobby throughout the holiday season.

Every donation helps, and all contributions are greatly appreciated! Thank you for supporting our furry friends during this special time of year. 🐾❤️

The holiday season is now in full swing, which brings excitement, but for male cats, it can also bring extra stress—and with it, a higher risk of Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD).

If your cat seems to be urinating more frequently, straining, or showing signs of discomfort, it could be a sign of FLUTD.

Simple steps like creating a quiet, cozy space or using pheromone sprays, can help reduce stress.

Our clinic is here to help! We can provide a thorough review of your cat’s health and offer guidance on environmental changes to keep them calm. Contact us today!

It is with the most broken of hearts that we must share some tragic news. Zena, our beloved clinic kitty, passed away the evening of December 4th. She was 14 years old.

Zena came to us as a very tiny kitten after being found in a field. Both her eyes were severely infected, and her right eye was damaged beyond repair. Dr. Mahnke took her in, removed the damaged eye, spayed her, and nursed her back to health with the intent of finding her a loving forever home. Everyone fell in love with her, and it quickly became obvious that Casper Animal Medical Center would be her permanent residence.

Over the years, she took on many roles: honorary receptionist (although she refused to answer any phones), post-op patient recovery technician, laundry assistant, comic relief, official patient/client greeter, professional napper, babysitter, rubber band eater, tormentor of dogs, and grief counselor, just to name a few. She made fast friends with every person who came through our doors, and tried to befriend every dog, even the ones who did not return her affections. She semi-willingly put up with all the staff's shenanigans, from Halloween costumes and April Fools photos, to being the "victim" for new staff to practice restraint techniques and blood draws. Her favorite places to be were sprawled out in office chairs (usually forcing the human occupant of the chair to perch on the edge), curled up in her big, cozy bed, and riding on the shoulders of anyone who picked her up. She was also an expert at random zoomies, and finding the tiniest pieces of crumpled paper to bat around and chase through the halls and across the lobby.

We take solace in knowing that, when she crossed the Rainbow Bridge, she was greeted by scores of familiar faces. She is in great company among so many of your beloved pets.

Please be kind and gentle with our staff while we process this unexpected loss. We all loved and cared for her as we would our own personal pet, and her absence has left a hole in our hearts.

The Casper Humane Society giving tree has returned! We are so excited to be an ongoing supporter!

Each animal featured on a tag has asked for an item that is often in need at the Humane Society. Donations can be brought to the clinic and placed in the donation bin, or taken directly to Casper Humane Society.

In addition to the specifically requested items, they are also happy to accept items for any domesticated animal - that includes bird related supplies for parakeets, cockatiels, etc., rabbit, rat and guinea pig food and bedding, and kitten milk supplement for newborns.

'Tis the season for out-of-town trips to see loved ones, which sometimes means boarding for your furry friends.

With an increase in boarding reservations, we often see an increase in cases of canine upper respiratory illnesses (often referred to as "Kennel Cough" or "Canine Cough"). Respiratory illnesses are highly contagious among dogs, and spread quickly through boarding/daycare facilities, grooming parlors, dog parks, and veterinary clinics.

The best line of defense is a veterinary visit to have your dog vaccinated with the Bordetella vaccine. Keeping your pet current on this vaccine severely lessens the chance of them contracting the infection and passing it along to other dogs. Most boarding/daycare facilities and groomers require this vaccine; even if your chosen facility does not require it, it is still strongly recommended that your dog be Bordetella vaccinated.

Should your pup develop symptoms (most commonly a persistent, dry, hacking cough) - even if they are vaccinated - it is important to keep them quarantined from other dogs for a minimum of 2 weeks, and cancel any upcoming boarding, daycare, or grooming reservations they may have in that time frame. The illness is typically self-limiting in healthy dogs (much like the common cold in humans), but it is advised to see your veterinarian to have your dog assessed so antibiotics and cough suppressants can be dispensed to control symptoms and help your pet recover quicker.

If you have additional medical questions, please reach out to Casper Animal Medical Center at 307-237-8387, or for questions related to boarding, Sunrise Pet Lodge at 307-337-4987.
