So, I finally had a moment to breath. I got the results from the ARBA convention. Out of 11 entries, I go 3 top ten (one top 5), 2 mid group, and the rest DQ’d for wool; except for one that allegedly had a split p***s — I got 5 other opinions and confirmed that it is not split! Whew! 😂 This was only our second convention and we had a blast!
NALRC banquet was wonderful! Thank you to Dawn Guye and her team! We had so much fun and it was really good food too! For those who were there and know about the scratch off tickets - - well …. You didn’t miss out much - - total of $45 🤦♀️ Where ever those tickets were purchased, sadly doesn’t have many winners. 😂 But we had fun scratching them and will still enjoy the Starbucks. Chic Fillet, Amazon and Target gift cards.
In regard to some rumblings I’ve heard. If you know me, I tend to try to fix things if I can. I want to state a HUGE congratulations to the BOB and BOSB winners in both Open and Youth. Any Lionhead breeder knows it takes hard work and dedication to show these beautiful animals.
To Paige Mentle - I understand there have been grumblings about your “snowball blue tort” winning and how “snowball” is a fault. Let’s face it, it is a fault. However, I sat there at the Secretary’s table and listened to the judge’s statements when he was judging her for BOB. Someone (I don’t know who it was since I was seated and couldn’t see their face) mentioned the fault and his immediate reaction was something along these lines - “I realize that snowball is a fault, however, I think it’s really pretty; and when you have a rabbit of this quality, the body, the wool, everything is so outstanding, that fault means nothing.” So, Paige, you hold your head high and let the nay sayers say what they say. You deserved that win!
Also, at the banquet there was a bit of grumbling about the way the Open BOB award was presented. Having known Ashlyn Guye now for many years I can tell you all that her comment was made out of pure love and respect for the beauty of the BOB winner, when she said “for her beautiful snowballed blue tort doe.” Anyone who truly knows Ashlyn knows that her absolute favorite rabbit is a snowball lilac tort. She had one and at one point I had one that she wanted to “steal” from me because she loves them so much. Her statement was truly out of love for the snowball and the winner!
Also, grumblings on the floor about comments between breeders about “my rabbit will beat your rabbit” … it’s all done in fun folks! Again, I’ve competed against the Guyes, the Poffs, the Marsh’s and others at nearly every single show I’ve been in and we do that to each other all the time. So if you are the recipient of such nudges, it’s truly meant in fun. It’s not meant as an insult or to hurt anyone.
We need to remember that while this is a competition, this is meant to also be fun. When we take the fun out of it … why bother anymore?
If you have upset someone, even if it’s not on purpose, please, please, please, take the time to apologize. If someone has hurt you, please take the time to tell them, so they can apologize, and then please, please, please, have enough grace to accept that apology and move on.
We’re all in this together folks. While it is a competition, we’re all still family and should be loving to one another and congratulatory to the winners and saying thank you to those who do the work to make the shows happen.
I’ll step down now and just want to say thank you to everyone involved in the convention - all the board members, committees and all the volunteers. Everyone worked hard and I for one had a wonderful time! God bless you all and good luck at the tables! If I see you there please know that I may tease you that my bunny is better than yours, even if it’s not! 🤣 LOVE YOU ALL! 💕
