Angus & Friends is a 501(c)(3) non-profit in Castro Valley, CA dedicated to helping feral cats.

Angus & Friends Cat Rescue is a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2022. Angus & Friends works collaboratively with other groups to do Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), and to find loving homes for as many stray cats and kittens as possible. We are passionate about the cats, and about educating the public about ways to help the cats and kittens that cross their paths with the goal of reducing the numbers

of community cats on the streets. Our organization is dedicated to the memory of Angus, a 15-year-old orange tabby who was found on death's door by people who lived in his neighborhood who assumed he had a home. He didn't, but probably did at one time, because he turned out to be friendly, though very sick. Efforts were made to save him, but he ultimately had to be put down because he was not recovering after a blood transfusion due to flea anemia. Our goal is to help as many homeless cats and kittens as possible to get off the mean streets and place them in new loving, furrever homes.

💜🆘💜 FOSTER(S) OR ADOPTER(S) NEEDED ASAP: Rocky (black & white shorthair) and Ben (Siamese mix with a cool ringed tail!) were living in a backyard after their human entered hospice care. Out of necessity, these two sweet 18-month-old male kitties are temporarily being kept in cages in a foster’s home. They urgently need a new foster home placement — or better yet, to be adopted! (They do not need to be placed together.)

Ben and Rocky love pets and human attention! They’re a bit skittish at first but they warm up quickly.

Ben is missing one eye. We don’t know how this happened, but it doesn’t slow him down one bit. His one good eye is a gorgeous blue color!

Ben and Rocky were born in approximately November 2022. They have been neutered, and will be microchipped and brought up-to-date on vaccinations prior to adoption.

💕💕 Beau is definitely a lover; his long, lanky body just melts on your lap! It’s a joy to watch him play -- he is just so carefree! He has two distinctive features: a small goatee on his chin, and a round button on his tummy. He purrs at one look from you. Even if he is playing, he is always ready for pets, cuddles and purrs. Beau was born on approximately September 8, 2023. He has been vaccinated and neutered, and will be microchipped prior to adoption. He is good with other cats and would probably be okay with a mellow, friendly dog. He has not yet been around any children, but he should be fine with older, respectful children. Meet Harley, an affectionate tabby male with a very sweet face! Harley is a friendly, playful and independent young kitty. Harley is very good with other kitties but has not had any contact with dogs. He would do well in a home with older children. He needs a patient adopter willing to work with him and give him as much time as he needs to adjust to his new home.

With the help of the Hayward Fire Department (twice!), we were able to rescue several kittens from a drainage ditch yesterday. Our Director, Deborah MacDonald, relates the story:

"Yesterday, we learned of a mom cat and six kittens that were in a bad situation in Hayward, where two of the kittens had fallen into a drainage ditch. We needed the assistance of the Fire Department, so Hayward FD came to the scene and was able to get the kittens out! All safe we thought! But then something scared the kittens, and this time they ran into a bigger drainage ditch! The Fire Department responded again, but this time the kittens were in too deep and they couldn't get them out. Fortunately, HFD left the very heavy iron grate off for us, and with a dedicated team, we were eventually able to rescue all of the kittens."

💖 Meet Dinah! Dinah is an adorable young kitty who came to Angus and Friends from the streets of San Jose, where she had been living in a homeless encampment. After disappearing for a couple of days, Dinah showed up with a gash on her head and unable to see. A kind rescuer took her in, and in that calm, loving environment, Dinah bounced right back!

Dinah is a very sweet kitty with an affectionate nature who greets her humans with little meows and loves to receive attention. Her favorite activities are receiving ear and chin rubs, snoozing against your leg, and chasing crinkly toys. Despite having limited vision, Dinah still loves to play and is surprisingly good at catching the end of a cat dancer. Watch her video here: https://youtu.be/uDtGNmDLBPI Dinah is also very keen on Greenies and has been known to tear a bag open to retrieve the treats herself if her humans don't offer them to her!

Dinah was born in approximately November 2022; she is spayed, vaccinated, and has been treated for fleas, worms, and common parasites. She will be microchipped prior to adoption.

Dinah would do best in an adults-only home, but would probably be okay with older, respectful teens. She needs to be in a setting without other animals as she does not like cats. Dinah should go to a mellow, relaxed household where the residents are mindful that her partial blindness means that she may react with fear to unfamiliar objects or environments.

Please note that Dinah is being fostered in the North Bay near Santa Rosa, and prospective adopters should be willing to travel there to meet her.

💖 Stella is a shy but very sweet, short-haired gray tabby female, born approximately January 1, 2023. She likes to play and enjoys being petted. Stella has been spayed and is up to date on her shots; she will be microchipped prior to adoption. She would be happiest in a quiet home with no young children, as she can become overwhelmed by toddlers.

Stella is considered to be a Manx kitty; however, she does not show any of the typical signs of Manx syndrome such as incontinence or lack of sensation in the hind legs. She gets around perfectly well and always uses the litter box!

💖 Hi, I’m Rubi! My coloring is called “dilute tortoiseshell” but everyone who meets me says I’m just 100 percent beautiful!

I was rescued from the streets by a kind Samaritan. I was in very bad condition when I was found, but I’m doing great now thanks to my rescuer who took me in and gave me very good care.

I’m a very sweet kitty and love to rub against everything and anything! While I really enjoy pets, I need to be able to smell your hand and give you my permission first. With an adopter who is willing to work with me and give me all the time I need to adjust, I will very likely learn to love pets!

My foster mom thinks I probably never had any toys in the past because I don't seem to know what to do with them. I enjoy hanging out and watching TV with my foster family! I love to do “zoomies” around the house and am an excellent biscuit-maker!

💖 Sweet girl Cinder is looking for her forever home! Cinder is a shy but playful young Siamese mix - born in July 2022 - so a family with older kids or other cats is recommended. She would make a great addition to any family who is looking for a playmate for their current fur baby(s).

Cinder is a beautiful Siamese with bright blue eye and a calm temperament. She is very lovable but just like your typical cat, she will let you know when she wants attention and when she doesn't. She is completely litter-box trained and spayed, as well as microchipped, vaccinated and dewormed.

Tobey loves people!! He is very affectionate and gets along with people from children to adults. He may be a bit shy at first but given a couple of weeks to adjust, he will begin to open up.

Hobbes is a super-affectionate and friendly orange male kitty who only wishes to be loved. He just wants to be with his humans and will constantly come up and lay next to you.

Hobbes has occasionally had some issues with inappropriate elimination, urinating on the floor. He needs a patient adopter who will work with him to find methods for preventing this problem, such as experimenting with a variety of different litter boxes, placement of boxes around the home, types of litters, etc.

Hobbes was born in approximately May 2018. He is accustomed to being around other cats and dogs, and does well with all kinds of people. He has been fixed and will be up to date on his vaccinations prior to adoption. If you’re willing to give Hobbes a chance, he will be one of the best companion kitties you’ve ever met!

CASTRO VALLEY AREA -- GARFIELD NEEDS A FOSTER OR ADOPTER!! Garfield is a sweet 4-year-old kitty who, sadly, was abandoned at a pet-food store a couple of nights before Christmas. While he is feeling somewhat bewildered and doesn’t understand what has happened to him, he is adjusting quickly. Garfield is starting to trust people again, enjoys petting and cuddling, and is a "purr machine!"

Garfield was born on approximately December 8, 2019. He has been neutered, and will be microchipped and up to date on his vaccinations prior to being adopted. He would do best in a quiet home with 1-2 adults and no children.

Sienna is a lovely and sweet girl with gray tabby markings and some white, a beautiful combination! Here is Sienna's story, in her own words:

"Hi, I'm Sienna! My foster mom, Deborah, thinks I need to have my own home and people to dote on me, and where I can be the center of their universe. Of course, I can't disagree, although my foster mom is pretty sweet to me, and I feel safe with her.

My story is that I found a nice lady in Oakland that fed me, and when I had my 3 babies last spring, she fed me even better, but she could never convince me to come inside. Still, I knew I could trust her, and she always had food and water for me whenever I showed up. She always fed and took gentle care with my babies, and eventually, she told me she gave them to a foster, and that was the last I knew of my babies. She fed me for a while, but, then, she moved away, and finding food was touch and go there for a little while.

Then, I thought the worst thing happened, someone trapped me! Next thing I knew, I was at my foster mom's in a cage, where I had to stay for a week to get acclimated to the other cats. My mom told me later no one knew I was so tame! And, they still don't know why. I don't understand what tame means, but the humans all seem happy with it. So, I'm happy with it!

Still, it was pretty overwhelming there for a while with the other cats, and I used to hide under the furniture. But, now, I feel more comfortable, and I spend my time hanging out, and resting or sleeping. Although I am only maybe two or three years old, I am as cute as a kitten, according to my mom!

I am still VERY shy with new people and will benefit from someone with a high tolerance and patience for shy cats.

It would be great to be an only kitty, or maybe live with just one or two other cats. My mom said to tell you that I have not been around children or dogs. If you think I am as cute as my mom thinks, maybe you would want to adopt me? If so, can you please let my foster mom, Deborah, know. Thanks for reading about me!"

Hi, my name is Thomas, aka Tommy! I was born in approximately December 2021. I am sweet, a little shy & I enjoy talking with humans! Someone left me behind when they moved from South Hayward, so a kind lady started to take care of me. She fed me, got me neutered, vaccinated, and is fostering me. Now I'm ready to find a loving and permanent home!

I am litter box trained, love to play with interactive toys, and get along with most kitties. I've not been around children or dogs though.

🆘 EXPERIENCED FOSTER NEEDED ASAP! (Castro Valley/San Leandro areas) This young Siamese-mix cat was trapped and spayed yesterday. We need an experienced cat foster ASAP to take her in and help us determine if she is tame, or can possibly be tamed. The cat’s TNR person is overwhelmed and cannot keep her, even for a short time to see if she is tame. We would love to get this kitty off the street and not have to put her back outside, because she is in a bad area where the neighbors do not want cats around. We are hoping to find an experienced cat foster who, in conjunction with our Director, can ascertain if the kitty is possibly tame or tame-able, so we can get her into a better situation and off the streets.
