Did you know you can use a flash strap in place of a draw strap? The biggest difference between a flash strap and a draw strap is a draw strap has another keeper stitched into the back of the buckle to help keep the strap neat when it is on the cavesson.
Yes, most flashes are 1/2” and most draw straps are 5/8” and a draw strap should have a roller buckle (not all of them do) and most flashes don’t have a roller buckle (but all of them should) it will still work just fine. Could you follow that sentence? 🧐😆
My point is, if you find yourself with a broken draw strap, you can use a flash strap in its place and still have a usable cavesson until you can find a replacement. It also means if you are having trouble finding a replacement draw strap to buy, but you can find a flash strap in the same width, you can get that instead.
In the pictures is a crank draw strap (top) and a flash strap set up as a draw strap (bottom). I used brown keepers on the flash strap so you can see where I added them.
And yes, I was rushing and put the keepers on backwards. 😜 And I left off the jaw pad too. Again, in my defense, I was rushing. 😉 If you would like me to post pictures of the flash strap fully set up on a cavesson with the jaw pad and keepers just let me know.
