Did you know you can use a flash strap in place of a draw strap? The biggest difference between a flash strap and a draw strap is a draw strap has another keeper stitched into the back of the buckle to help keep the strap neat when it is on the cavesson.

Yes, most flashes are 1/2” and most draw straps are 5/8” and a draw strap should have a roller buckle (not all of them do) and most flashes don’t have a roller buckle (but all of them should) it will still work just fine. Could you follow that sentence? 🧐😆

My point is, if you find yourself with a broken draw strap, you can use a flash strap in its place and still have a usable cavesson until you can find a replacement. It also means if you are having trouble finding a replacement draw strap to buy, but you can find a flash strap in the same width, you can get that instead.

In the pictures is a crank draw strap (top) and a flash strap set up as a draw strap (bottom). I used brown keepers on the flash strap so you can see where I added them.

And yes, I was rushing and put the keepers on backwards. 😜 And I left off the jaw pad too. Again, in my defense, I was rushing. 😉 If you would like me to post pictures of the flash strap fully set up on a cavesson with the jaw pad and keepers just let me know.

Sorry all. I thought, the key word is "thought," I had it set up for Instagram to automatically post to Facebook. It was working well, then just stopped! GRRRR! So it missed my last post, which will hopefully show up soon, because I spend yet another hour trying to fix the issue.

Just when I think I have a handle on life..... things change. The latest news is we very unexpectedly put in an offer on 40 acres! Life is going to be a little crazy while were get this land closed on and I plan for the build of our new house/farm. It is very exciting, yes, but I am scared and am kind of freaking out!

It seems like I am always saying bear with me, and I really hate that, but here I am again saying bear with me while I freak out a little.

Nothing like trying to plan the totally unexpected purchase of 40 uncleared acres and a house build which is to include an elderly parent moving-in all in a 7 day option period! My sister sent this to me after a frantic call to her freaking out. I think I need one of these! 😱 Sorry again the pause in posts while I sort this out.

Here is a perfect example of how much difference there can be between the size charts of different brands and manufacturers. All the pairs of cheeks in the picture are “Cob” sized. Well… except for one, which is “Pony” sized, BUT it is longest pair to really prove my point. This is why getting/taking measurements of both your horse and potential bridle/headstall are SO important.

JustBridles.com opened in 2009 as a retail website that sold bridles by the part. My tagline was “changing the way bridles are sold, one part at a time.” Life changed for me and I decided to close my virtual retail doors. By turning this website into an educational blog, I hope to continue helping riders and horse owners learn about how a bridle should fit your horse, how the size charts work, and how to get the best fit by building a bridle with off-the-rack bridle parts.

I really missed getting into social media when I was operating the retail website. I had enough on my plate running the day to day retail site. So I will try my best to get with it now. Please spread the word about this new Instagram account. I am planning some super fun giveaways for those that help! 🙌🏻👍🏻And if I can get enough people following, I will do some live sales of the liquidation inventory. 🎉

I have been tossing around an idea that I would love your feedback on. JustBridles.com The Blog?

When I decided to close the retail website, I really struggled with taking away the resource I had created for buying bridles by the part. But while planning the retail website’s conversion into an informational one, I realized that I could still be a resource in the bridlework market. I could take JustBridles.com and create a blog where you could find:

- News and reviews by me and other bridle obsessed friends, blogger/ writers, on new and upcoming bridle brands, as well as existing ones.
- Trends in the bridlework market.
- Information on how to measure for and to fit off the rack and custom bridles.
- A database of size charts for different brands and models.
- List of retailers that sell bridles by the part.

There is so much that a bridle blog can offer! However, be really honest, I am a tad overwhelmed at the amount of work this would take. I don’t want to create a blog that no one will read or visit. What do you think? Does this sound like a site you would read and follow?

Give me some feedback so I can decide which direction I want to take JustBridles.com!

Thanks so very much and Happy Riding!

New site and email is up and working. Whew!

Don't worry if you notice it says www.justbridles.net in the address bar, I just have a forward on the .com domain until I get everything settled with the hosting company that I was using for the retail website.

I did get the most important information, in my opinion, which is "How to Take Your Horse's Measurements for Individual Bridle Parts" and "How to Translate Your Horse’s Measurements to the Bridle Parts." I will keep banging away at getting all the other wonderful information [read size charts] up on this new site.
