New Day
Another day and life at Storybook goes on! Trapped 25 cats today. The vet took 8 of the 25 today. I will pick them up and drop the 11 I have here in the morning. The video was done earlier in the day so I trapped more this evening. There are 5 kittens and their feral mom who will be raised here until they can be weened and adopted. Their mother will be fixed and released when we ween them.
I have 8-10 more cats at the same place that I will try for tmw.
Please spay and neuter. I swore I was going to take a break this summer. It’s too hot for this old gal. I am getting so many calls with people crying and begging that I had to give in.
As busy as she is and as much running around as she does, Merrick takes the time to come to our home and meet our new puppy and deliver a bag full of goodies to little Jerome. Merrick you are an amazing human. Jerome is blessed to have you as his Auntie. ❤️

Gus checked in today from his fur-ever home. He wants everyone to know that his new Mama and Daddy are GREAT! He’s loving them so much ❤️ #petsmartcharities #adoptdontshop #spayandneuter
Kittens, kittens, kittens
We had 36 kittens. Some made transport up north and some have been adopted. We have 16 that will be spayed and neutered tomorrow and be ready for their forever homes. The remainder 9 weren’t quite the weight they needed to be, so we are hoping in another week they will be ready to go!
Trapped 19 cats and now prepping 18 for vetting tmw. Long day and going to be a really early morning! Doing one more clinic on Sunday and I’m taking a much needed break. By Sunday we will have helped over 300 cats since January of this year. Sadly it’s a drop in the bucket.

Morning Guest
We never know minute to minute what each day will bring. We have to be able to adapt and think outside the box. Thought we were going to catch this guy in a trap. It was taking way too much time. No problem scooting him into a garbage can and now he is safely relocated. Mission accomplished and onward to an extremely busy week!!!
Good morning. Welcome to my morning. Grab your cup of coffee and let’s have a chat, because this is the only way you are going to see me or hear what I’m doing. I am slammed with animals. The madness has to stop. I look at my video and hear the frustration in my voice and see the dark circles under my eyes. I speak for all rescues out there!!!! Please people you have got to step up. If you pick up an animal know that it could end up being your responsibility for a long time if not permanently. Yes, we hear you. Yes we feel bad for you. No we can’t take one more animal!!! You make room for one and we will take it as room allows. Help us, help you! I repeat…. Help us, help you.
The answer is spay and neuter. Plain and simple. Second if you pick up an animal or adopt an animal, it is yours. Have a plan. I repeat DO NOT pick up or ADOPT if you are not prepared to take on that responsibility!!!!!!

Nine Lives - Gone ✅
Meet my little “Traveler”. On Thursday, we were doing a TNR assessment about 30 minutes from the rescue and tried to grab 4 kittens. It didn’t go as planned and the kittens scattered. When I returned to the rescue I did hear a Meow, but thought nothing of it as we have lots of cats.
Fast forward to Friday. Again I hear meows throughout the day, but I am either trapping cats or at the rescue so I don’t pay much attention to it.
Today, Saturday I am leaving the rescue to head over to Sealy to follow up on the TNR of what we believe to be over 100 cats when I hear that very loud “MEOW”. This time I look around and even on the roof, but no cat. I shake my head and say to myself, “Well we do have lots of cats around here and I’m sure it is here somewhere”. Either that or I really have become the crazy cat lady!!!
I arrive at my destination and have already made 3 stops at different locations we are trapping to drop food. There it is!!!! That loud distinctive, MEOW. I look all around in my car. No cat. I open my hood and a young man asks if I need a jump. I tell him no that I think I might have a cat under my hood. Now of course he does not think me to be crazy because I am trapping at a place with over 100 cats.
Well you know where this is going. Sure enough, starring up at us is the tiniest of black kittens, but with the biggest MEOW I have ever heard.
I tried to grab it, but it ran further back to the underbelly of my car. I wish someone had a video of the young man and I crawling around under my car for about an hour to grab that kitten. I couldn’t have done it without him, a broom and a flashlight!
This kitten has traveled more miles in the hood and underbelly of my car in 3 days than it ever will in its entire lifetime. Call it a miracle, call it lucky, I’m calling it another day in the life at Storybook.
This kitten is very special to have survived for almost 3 days traveling in the undercarriage of my car. It deserves someone just a
Diverting a CATastrope
Day 1 of an effort to trap and vet at least 100 cats at a mobile home park. We have done our homework and hope to have the task completed by the end of March.
This is how I spent my weekend and I’m very proud to have accomplished the task of catching so many cats along with 2 raccoons. By tmw (Monday morning) most of Jeanine’s cats will be fixed. There are a few stragglers we will have to return for, but for the most part we have vaccinated and spayed/neutered the majority.
Jeanine is 99 years young. She taught French at Bellaire and Lamar High Schools in Houston. These cats are her life!! She said they love her unconditionally and give her purpose. I feel so honored and privelaged that I was able to help her.
When you donate to Storybook and you say you wish you could give more look at the lives you are touching!!! You are certainly helping the animals live a much better life, but you are also changing the lives for people like Jeanine.
I want to thank everyone who helped make this happen. This includes Karen Shaddox for helping me trap. Janet and David Brast supporting Jeanine through all of this. Team Feral for sponsoring the clinic today and Dr Hanna’s incredible team at HSN. Dr Dennis Marek and his wife Karen of Cedar Hill Vet services who will be spaying and neutering the cats tomorrow. They also helped us with a couple of cats that were ill. PUPS (Prevent unwanted Pets of Cat Spring) for helping us pick up some of the costs and last but so important is all of you who support StoryBook Rescues. Thank you all for helping us to write incredible stories for so many animals and people.
