We thought we were in the clear with our 4 little Clown litter pups but unfortunately that was not the case. Pennywise, the runt, didn't want to eat yesterday and was regurging even at the sight of food. He had to be readmitted to the hospital. We were worried to say the least when the word "septic" came out of the doctors mouth. He is back on IV antibiotics and pain meds. Last night he had to receive plasma to help try and stabilize him. He is a bit brighter today and finally ate some food. We are hoping with the next update that it will include him being released but we don't want to push it. Beauregard is doing absolutely amazing. He has gained all his needed weight back and will be neutered in just a couple of weeks. He is an absolute love! We will begin to accept applications on him in just a few weeks now that we can properly evaluate the type of home he will need.

We know it is very late but we wanted to get this up as soon as possible. Tonight we received a call from PSPCA asking for help with a litter of 5 week old puppies that were in need of immediate critical care. Without hesitation we were able to take 4 babies who have been suffering at the hands of a total idiot who thought watching a TikTok video on docking dogs tail was a good idea. At just 2 weeks old these babies began the next 3 weeks of hell as their tails were rubber banded like cattle. As they suffered, their tails became swollen and infected. The smell of rotting flesh was overwhelming. They were taken to Crown Veterinary Specialists and Emergency where the team of nurses and doctors began getting IV's in them so they could get pain meds and antibiotics. They are just tiny little babies and this is just a horrific act of cruelty. We will be working closely with PSPCA on this case and providing them with all the documentation they will need but our priority is getting them treated and their tails removed as soon as they are stable enough to do so while they handle the legal part of this case. The babies are rightfully scared and painful. Our hearts break for them and our faith in the human race it yet again questioned. Please keep our new babies in your thoughts and prayers and please also keep the staff in your thoughts as these cases take a big emotional toll of them as well.

We would like to introduce Jersey Girl! This former mill mom is a 5 year old pure bred black lab who is one of the happiest girls around. She is in love with all humans. Her downfall is she is protective of those humans with other dogs. Away from humans, she happily co-mingles with them. Because of this we would like to see her as an only dog unless an adopter is diligent enough to be aware and do a proper shutdown. Jersey has been doing well leash walking and is getting the potty routine down. She will be spayed next week and is all ready for a place to call her own.

Calla had a really good first night in her foster home. She got to watch TV and spend some couch time with the humans. We are pretty sure she knows she is safe
On Thursday while we were busy securing a ride for Calla we also welcomed 3 Dalmatian babies from a puppy mill. They are 4 months old. We will accept applications now on the 2 boys - Chief and Ashes. They do need to finish up their vaccine series before we can do any meets. The girl, Lucy, unfortunately has a broken leg after being stepped on by a horse, She is currently in a cast as her leg heals and is not available. These pups are the grandkids of our dear Patty who is also looking for her forever home (see our post from a few days ago about her!)

We get emails from ACCT, Philly daily and there are times when just a photo will send our heart strings into overdrive. Wednesday evening we received the nightly email and the first photo smacked us right in the face and we knew we needed to try and help her. She was time stamped for the next morning. So we scrambled and were able to get her out of there. She was immediately brought to Crown Veterinary Specialists and Emergency. Her body condition made everyone shiver thinking about the suffering this poor girl endured. She mustered up the energy to give little tail wags as she was being treated and admitted to the hospital. There is such evil in this world and how do we stop this from continuing. We have named this precious girl Calla and tonight she gets to sleep in a warm cozy home as she begins her long road to recovery. Calla will only be permitted several very small meals per day until her system is able to handle a full meal. We know it sounds cruel but if she is overfed she can die. She also has mange and very overgrown nails. She only weighs 22 lbs and she should easily be double this. She will have a follow up in a few days with one of our vets and we hope she will begin to gain the weight she needs.

Our little chihuahua/shih tzu mix baby is still waiting on his forever home. Crimini was born in the rescue 4 months ago and is the last one waiting for his forever. He is a super lovable boy who would make a great family pup. He is well socialized with other dogs, cats and kids. He is neutered, up to date on this years vaccines and microchipped.

Here is Carina again!! Now that she is all healthy and ready for adoption we can show you how absolutely adorable this little pocket pittie is. Carina is about 3-years old and was turned in as a stray to the ACCT, Philly. She’s the sweetest girl who has so much love to give. She’s a snuggly cuddle buddy on the couch, walks nicely on a leash, and knows basic commands. Take her leash off in a fenced-in yard, and she’ll show you that she could win the doggie Olympics!
Carina is great with dogs (no tiny ones due to her desire to play, play and play a bit too rough for the small guys) and is good with cats. Older children due to her very playful nature (we dont want to see a little one get knocked over and hurt.) She is crate trained, spayed, and up to date on vaccines, Carina just might be the girl you’ve been searching for.

Looking for your very own 'ride or die'? Look no further as Patty can be the girl of your dreams. She is a former puppy mill mom who has put her past behind her and is ready to be your #1. Patty is a pure bred Dalmatian who is 7 years old. She has been with us for some time now with no interest whatsoever. Yes, we know she was a bit heavy when she arrived - actually double what her weight should be but she is slimming down and has lost 20 lbs. Patty is for sure a peoples dog. She does cohabitate well with 2 other Dals, a male and female. We would say she is more of a dominating female and is finally learning to play with other dogs. She however does not like when other pups are near her food or her toys when she is chewing. Patty also has high uric acid which causes bladder stones. Because of this she ether needs to continue on her prescription diet or home cooked bladder diets. She is being spayed next week as we had to hold off since she went into heat shortly after arriving. Patty enjoys going for walks, rides in the car and using you as her personal pillow.

Late last night we welcomed the most handsome boy who had been found laying in a creek in Philly unable to get up and covered in maggots. He had been brought to ACCT where it was clear he was in dire need of medical treatment. Beauregard as he has been named arrived at Crown Veterinary Specialists and Emergency and was in respiratory distress. Thanks to the quick actions of the doctor and nurses they performed life saving measures as Beauregard had bilateral pneumothorax and was struggling to breathe. He also has a broken shoulder and several wounds that are consistent with being hit by a car likely a few days prior. Our best guess is he was hit then took off running until he just couldn't go any further. He must have been scrambling and eating whatever he could find as X-rays showed lots of metallic debris including staples in his stomach. He is emaciated and will be on a re-feeding diet so he doesn't get sick from too much food. He will have a consult with surgery to see what can be done for the shoulder. Beau has been very tolerant despite the enormous amount of pain he was in never mind the inability to breathe properly with the collapsed lungs. He was so stinky and also got a very deserving bath so he could feel better being clean. He has a crib mattress in his kennel the hospital so he is comfy too. We will update as soon as we know more. A few days ago we welcomed Goose, formerly Peaches of PSPCA. Goose is a 5 month old bully female who has minimal use of her hind legs. Goose was surrendered by a homeless man when he realized he could not care for her properly. We had Goose seen yesterday by one of our surgeons. Her femoral heads are twisted which is what is causing this. We do not know if this is genetics or if she sustained some type of injury. Goose immediately went right into physical therapy afterwards. She will be going twice a week in hopes we can get her standing so we can move forward with surgery. First we do need to treat a nasty skin infection she has as well as a UTI from dragging herself. Goose is literally the happiest girl and is so full of life. She has no idea she has a disability. We created a wish list of some items we could use to begin her care. Rowan was able to come home! He is hanging out at one of our Directors homes for a few days to keep and eye on him since she is close to the hospital. His spirits are high, his appetite is great and clearly his barker is working when he knows its time to eat. He still has a long road ahead of him but its all positive from here. ROWAN UPDATE... look who is up and walking about. Rowan will be spending a few more days in the hospital and we are hoping to get him home in foster by midweek.
Folks this is the sad reality of what a shelter acquired upper respiratory can do to a dog, especially one that was already fighting for her life. Root Beer is home and being closely monitored. Pneumonia took a big toll on her. Her foster family is spending lots of time nursing her back to health. Even though she made an incredible comeback, she still has a very long road ahead of her even with the proper treatments. Root Beers bill was just over $6,000 and we are still in desperate need of donations to help. We have created a wish list of items that will go right to her foster home. *** SOS HELP NEEDED *** A few days ago we welcome a young adult pit bull named Root Beer from ACCT, Philly. Her very emaciated body and infected eyes pulled at our heart strings and we had to get her out. Despite being in such poor condition (See photos in comments of the post) she was being so very sweet. Fast forward to very early this morning. Her foster rushed her to Crown Veterinary Specialists and Emergency because she knew something was wrong. She was lethargic. We just received another update and our girl Root Beer is in critical condition. She is septic, febrile and has bilateral pneumonia from the shelter acquired upper respiratory infection. She is on oxygen and getting IV antibiotics. The doctors are very concerned she is not strong enough to make it through this but we are going to continue to go hard in hopes she will. She took a turn very quickly today. She is too weak to go through something like a trach wash so the doctors are doing what they can to turn her around. We have seen it before with some previous dogs who have needed days to make a positive turn and we are hoping this is the same but should we need to make a decision in the best interest of Root Beer, we will. Aldrin is next up for Secret Santa Paws! He has some great items on his list but what he wants most of all is his forever home. Aldrin has had no interest and its really sad for him because he is a good boy. He loves other dogs! He is an active boy who likes to do agility, go hiking and will also entertain himself for hours. He needs slow introductions to cats and small critters because he thinks chasing is a game. We dont want this boy to continue to grow up in the rescue. Thats not fair to him. We know on this #GivingTuesday, you have so many wonderful organizations to donate to. And the fact is, we all primarily run on donations. Without donations none of us could do what we do. Without our fantastic donors we wouldn’t have been able to provide Mouse and Daisy with the immediate medical they needed to save their lives. And who can forget our Zero?
