🎉 Heartwarming Update from the Barn! 🐴❤️

Today, we caught sweet Gus having the time of his life playing with his ball! 🎾 For those who remember, Gus used to love playing ball and tug-of-war with his best buddy, Rollo. Since Rollo's passing, Gus has been quiet and reserved, and we hadn't seen him play like this in a long time.

Seeing Gus rediscover his playful spirit warmed all of our hearts. 💕 It's a beautiful reminder of the resilience and joy these incredible animals can find, even after loss.

🌟 Exciting News About Auggie's Heritage! 🌟

We’ve always been curious about Auggie’s (formerly Ghost) lineage, and thanks to his amazing new owner, Amy Llewellyn Dodson we now know the truth! 🐴 Auggie’s DNA test revealed that he’s a mix of Quarter Horse and the rare and fascinating Galiceno breed.

✨ What’s a Galiceno Horse?
Galicenos are a small, agile breed originating from Spain and brought to the Americas by Spanish explorers in the 1500s. Known for their intelligence, stamina, and gentle nature, these horses were historically used for ranch work and riding. Sadly, they are now incredibly rare, with fewer than 200 believed to exist in the United States today.

This discovery makes so much sense since Auggie and Star came to us from a herd dispersal in Texas, close to the Mexican border—an area where Galiceno horses might still have a presence.

Now we’re even more excited to get a DNA test for Star! Could she also be part Galiceno? Stay tuned as we dive deeper into the history and heritage of our beloved equines.

🌟 Milestone Moment for Star! 🌟

When Star first came to Freedom and Whiskey Equine Rescue, she was barely a year old, terrified, and completely feral. She wouldn't let anyone stand within 20 feet of her. Fast forward to today, and Star has achieved something truly remarkable—she allowed us to put her very first blanket on her with no fuss or resistance!

In just one year, this brave little filly has learned to trust, become halter trained, walk confidently on a lead, enjoy grooming sessions, and even receive her first dental exam, including floating and the removal of her wolf teeth. Each of these milestones represents countless hours of patience, love, and dedication.

This is why we do what we do. 💕 Without rescues like ours stepping in, horses like Star might never have the chance to thrive, find a good home, or receive the care and training they need. Star’s journey is proof of the power of rescue—and the hope it brings for a brighter future.

We’re so proud of how far Star has come, and we’re excited to help her continue growing into the amazing horse we know she can be. We hope 2025 will be the year she finds her special person and her forever home!

Today, we honor the incredible role horses have played in shaping our nation’s history, economy, and development. From powering agriculture and transportation to serving courageously in wartime, horses have been steadfast partners in building our country.

Their strength built railroads, carried mail across the Pony Express, and plowed the fields that fed generations. They’ve been heroes in battle, companions in adventure, and symbols of freedom and resilience.

🌈💔 In Loving Memory 💔🌈

We want to take a moment to thank each of you for the incredible outpouring of love, kind words, and generous donations during this incredibly difficult time. Losing Dolly and Rollo has left a huge void in our hearts and around the rescue.

The house feels so quiet without our little potato-shaped house pig snoring away in her favorite bed, and the barn seems emptier without Rollo’s fuzzy, long-eared greetings each morning. Their unique spirits brought so much joy and comfort to everyone who met them, and they will forever be part of the Freedom and Whiskey family.

We also want to express our deepest gratitude to In Memoriam Pet Services for their care and respect in picking up Rollo and returning him to us. Their compassion brought us a sense of peace during this heartbreaking time. Rollo is home now, and though he may no longer greet us at the barn, he will always be with us in spirit. 💕
