Coloradoโs Going Home!
Today is an awesome day here at Freedom and Whiskey Equine rescue. Our newest addition, Colorado, is going to his forever home!
Willy escapes
This morning while feeding, an escape attempt was made and almost successful. The ever impatient One Eye Willy deftly unlatched the stall door and let himself out into the aisle. Watch the zoomed in slow motion at the end to see how smooth he was with it. Ultimately I think he actually got lucky here and it just happened to work. This is why we canโt have nice thingsโฆmini ponies.
๐ Heartwarming Update from the Barn! ๐ดโค๏ธ
Today, we caught sweet Gus having the time of his life playing with his ball! ๐พ For those who remember, Gus used to love playing ball and tug-of-war with his best buddy, Rollo. Since Rollo's passing, Gus has been quiet and reserved, and we hadn't seen him play like this in a long time.
Seeing Gus rediscover his playful spirit warmed all of our hearts. ๐ It's a beautiful reminder of the resilience and joy these incredible animals can find, even after loss. @topfans

Thank you to everyone who had our backs yesterday, to each and every person who texted, called, or checked on us. Thank you to everyone that donated to help us cover the costs of Rolloโs final care and cremation. Thank you for supporting us and loving us. When your job is caring for animals around the 24/7/365 itโs often taxing emotionally and mentally. You all came through for us and keep our spirits up when WE really needed it. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Thank you!

Well we are heartbroken and devastated to hear from the vet this morning that Rollo is in renal failure. Thereโs nothing we can do any more, heโs too far gone. The vet will be here in an hour to put him down.
Enjoy this last video of Rollo, we offered him carrots and surprisingly he ate them despite not being interested in his breakfast. He is the goodest donkey and the handsomest donkey there ever was. We are giving him all the hugs and kisses while we wait.
Thank you all for your love and support and kind words. Today is going to be a very hard day.
Rollo update
Rollo Update: Unfortunately this isnโt a good update. Rollo is declining in health. The vet was out last night again to check on him and draw blood. This handsome donkey needs all the support you can muster. Please keep your thoughts, prayers, and donations for his care coming. We will have more info later once the blood work comes back. We are just crushed to see him declining this way without an answer as to why.
Rollo eating dinner on Saturday
Tonightโs update on Rollo is positive. He ate some dry sweet fed grain, a couple bites, but seemed interested in eating the sweet feed once I added a little warm water. Iโm doing a lot of sitting on the floor in a stall, but if it makes him feel comfortable to eat, Iโll sit here as long as it takes.
