This is W***y. He is approximately 30 years old. He was abandoned and left at auction with an injured eye, Cushing's disease, bad teeth, and hooves that had not been trimmed.

He deserves golden years filled with treats, soft shavings, and zero worries.

🚨 TOMORROW IS GIVING TUESDAY! 🚨

We’re one sleep away from the biggest giving day of the year, and our 11 horses and donkeys are basically writing you a thank-you note with their noses right now.

Sunday reminder from the herd:

They don’t care that it’s almost December. They still expect breakfast, lunch, dinner, and 2 a.m. “I’m starving” whinnies. Drama queens, every last one of them. 😆

Saturday snuggles brought to you by Gus the donkey, who believes blankets are for sharing… with humans. 🥰

Winter nights dip below freezing here in Virginia, and vet bills have zero chill. Your Giving Tuesday gift helps us cover emergency colic calls, teeth floating, and all the “just in case” meds we pray we never need.

It’s Fri-yay! 🥳 Which means it’s time for a Freedom & Whiskey reality check:

Our farrier comes every 6–8 weeks. That’s 44 hooves that need trimming. One visit costs more than a really nice pair of boots… times eleven animals. 😬

Giving Tuesday is Dec 2 — your donation keeps our herd strutting around on happy, healthy feet all winter. (And keeps our farrier in coffee.)

As Thanksgiving arrives, all of us at Freedom and Whiskey Equine Rescue want to share our gratitude with you. Our horses, ponies, and donkeys, along with our entire team, are thankful for your support, your kindness, and your belief in second chances.

Because of you, ten (eleven if you include Titan) very special equines are safe, healthy, and surrounded by people who care deeply for them. Every brush, every bale of hay, every vet visit, and every new beginning is possible because of this incredible community.

From the horse crew, Cash, Kiah, Chance, Midnight, to the pony crew, Star, Scout, and W***y, and our donkey crew, Opie, Ginger, and Gus, we thank you for being part of their journey.

We wish you and your families a warm and peaceful Thanksgiving filled with joy.

Today was a special day for Tom Tom, and Molly. These two sweet donkeys, who came to us in rough shape, left for Hardtimes Ranch & Sanctuary, where they will continue their journey toward full health. Tom Tom will also receive the castration he needs, so both can move forward safely and eventually be made available for adoption.

Watching them load up this morning felt emotional in the best way. They have come so far already, and seeing them take this next step reminded us why we do this work.

A heartfelt thank you to Bryanna and her incredible team at Hardtimes Ranch and Sanctuary for partnering with us. Their compassion and willingness to step in highlight what happens when rescues work together, share resources, and put the animals first.

Tom Tom, and Molly are heading toward brighter days, and we cannot wait to follow their progress. Stories like theirs remind us that teamwork and kindness truly change lives. 🩷

wild and domestic—are shipped across our borders to be slaughtered for human consumption.

These are not broken or unwanted animals. They are racehorses, mustangs, lesson ponies, show jumpers. Pregnant mares. Newborn foals. Proud stallions.

Horses who once ran free, carried children, and brought healing.

Their final journeys are not ones of love or gratitude. They are filled by fear, neglect, and betrayal—made possible by a loophole in federal law.

We call them The Lost Horses.

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who have served our nation with courage, dedication, and sacrifice. Their commitment to protecting our freedom and way of life is a debt that can never be fully repaid, but one we will always strive to honor.

“The Scout’s Honor”

Style: Whiskey Sour Twist (smooth, balanced, and confident — like Scout)

Ingredients

2 oz bourbon whiskey (preferably a smooth, caramel-forward one like Woodford Reserve or Buffalo Trace)
¾ oz fresh lemon juice
½ oz local honey syrup (1:1 honey and warm water)
¼ oz ginger liqueur (or muddle a few thin slices of fresh ginger)
1 dash orange bitters

Optional: Egg white for foam (if you want that silky texture)

Garnish
Lemon wheel and a sprig of fresh mint

Optional: A small drizzle of honey across the top for a touch of gold

Instructions

Add whiskey, lemon juice, honey syrup, ginger liqueur, and bitters to a shaker.
If using egg white, dry shake (no ice) first to froth.
Add ice and shake again until the mixture is well chilled.
Strain into a chilled coupe or over ice in a rocks glass.
