Camp Tail-Waggers Kennel

Camp Tail-Waggers Kennel Where dogs go for fun!! We are a homey kennel in rural Catlett, Va. The kennel is located here on our 9 acres at our home. The other building is set up like home!
(6)

We have no outdoor runs -- just big yards for the dogs to go out and play in among the trees! One building is set up like your typical kennel, with indoor, separate runs. They are large runs, easily fitting a couple dogs if you want your babies to stay together! This is for dogs who are either destructive, or perhaps easily intimidated or slightly bullying, maybe a little aggressive! The dogs hang

out together on couches and are free to roam around the room and play together. Only dogs who aren't destructive and who I can trust to get along well together are allowed to stay in this room. Regardless of where they stay, everyone gets out 4 -6 times a day for play time. First outing is around 7 in the morning, last one is around 11 at night. They go out in groups or individually depending on temperaments.

In the summer of 1923, Frank and Elizabeth Fraser and their two-year-old dog set out from Oregon, Indiana, to visit family. When they stopped for gas at a service station in Indiana, the dog was attacked by other three dogs and fled.
They looked for him everywhere, but could not find him in the end. They went back to Oregon with broken hearts, thinking they would never see their dear dog again. After giving up all hope, one day their daughter spotted a thin and tired dog on the road that resembled Bobby. After his happy reaction, it turned out to be the lost dog. Thanks to the people who took care of him during the trip, they were able to trace the entire route he crossed.
To see his family again, he crossed almost 2500 miles (4,000 kilometers) in six months. He hiked across the Rocky Mountains in the middle of winter and ended up being nicknamed "Bobby the Wonder Dog." He was the inspiration for the movie "Lassie Returns".

For over a year we have BEGGED for someone to give Simba a chance, because he REALLY deserves it after everything he's been through.
Unfortunately, like everyone else in his life, I've failed him. I have not been able to find a foster, adopter, trainer, rescue, or sanctuary that can help him.
I've never had to euthanize a dog with mild behavior issues just because we ran out of options, but that's where we are. Normally, I would bring him home and try to help or atleast give him a few days of being spoiled and loved inside a home but that's not an option. My leg is broken in five places, we have 7 dogs, and two young children.
I'll tell you what he needs and how you can help. If you aren't here to help, then CARRY ON, because I will not tolerate nasty or ignorant comments.
Needs:
To be the only pet.
A home without young children.
Extensive physical and mental stimulation daily.
A routine.
A fenced in yard.
An experienced and patient owner/handler.
Decompression time and a training program.
How you can help:
FOSTER (must meet the needs listed above).
Contact other rescues and sanctuaries.

We have until TUESDAY 6/18 to find another miracle for Simba. He's located in Virginia but can be transferred ANYWHERE to an appropriate home or program.
When Simba was being abused at our local shelter and was just days away from being killed EVERYONE was on his side but the moment he was moved into boarding he was forgotten. His reels have had over 100k views and we still don't have one single application.
If you can help email me at [email protected] with SAVE SIMBA in the headline.
If you can't help and have something negative to say, I'll reiterate this is NOT the place for it.

MYTH BUSTERS

We have a new Raccoon Myth to Bust today!!!

Having lived and worked with raccoons for as long as we have, yet still hearing people, even people that are considered experts, claim that they are nocturnal just drives us a little batty (no offense to our flying friends). This myth has cost so many innocent animals their lives!

So, let’s get this straight!

RACCOONS ARE CATHEMERAL!!!!

Cathemeral (also called metaturnal) is defined as: “Applied to an activity pattern in which an animal is neither prescriptively nocturnal, nor diurnal, nor crepuscular, but irregularly active at any time of night or day, according to prevailing circumstances.”
So please, please, if you see a raccoon during the day, or any time. Step back, take note of how incredible they are, and go on about your business! They mean you no harm, please don’t cause them any because of old wives tales!

We must note, raccoons can be dangerous, if a raccoon tries approaching you, or doesn’t leave with loud noises, go inside and call a professional.

Let's talk about this photo. It's cute, except it's not. I see a dog who cannot get up without telling the child to get off. How do you think a dog is going to do that?

The 7 Golden Toddler Dog Rules:
#1: If a dog walks away from you, you DO NOT FOLLOW.
#2: Always leave room for the dog to walk away from you.
---that right there is 90+% of dog bites eliminated---
#3: We do not climb on the dog.
#4: We do not grab or pull on the dog.
#5: We do not hit or throw anything at the dog.
#6: We do not touch the dog's food.
#7: We do not go into the dog's kennel.

I promise these are not overly difficult concepts for littles, nor will they rob a kid of their bond with the family dog. It will deepen that bond, while keeping everyone safe.

"Oh, it looks like Moose is walking away from you. She is saying she wants a break. Let's play with this instead!"

"It's Moose's dinner time! Let's give her space to enjoy her yummies."

"That is Moose's room(kennel) and only she is allowed to go in there."

"If Moose wanted a break, could she walk away from you right now? No she really couldn't. Let's move away from the play house. You can keep playing but now she can leave when she wants a break."

In conclusion, ***parent your child or your dog will do it for you, and you will not like how they do it.***

Apparently our repeated messages still aren't hitting home for people. Maybe this will...

Last night at 10:30pm, we received a call about TWIN fawns that the finders had brought home and had been "caring for" for 3 days. THREE DAYS. They separated the twins and one person was taking care of one, and someone else taking care of the other, which in of itself is a big no-no.

They sent photos of the fawns sitting on the couch, wrapped in blankets, hanging out next to the humans. We explained the criticality of getting them into care and gave them the name of a rehabber just under an hour away to get them into that would take them last night. But they said "I need someone to pick them up, I can't take them there". We pleaded that these animals needed help asap and that what they were doing was harming these babies. They were adamant they couldn't bring them in and someone would need to pick up. We arranged for someone to drive there this morning and pickup the fawns.

They texted us this morning to tell us the fawns "aren't doing well". The transporter arrived and one baby cannot even stand. They both have bloody stool and will likely die by the end of the day. All because people think it's cute to keep a fawn. People bring them into their homes and treat them like pets for a few days and then call us when they crash. Our transporters & rehabbers are the ones who have to struggle so hard to save their lives and then watch them die in their arms. The fact the people who took them won't even drive them to someone for help after the harm they caused is the icing on the cake.

Let me say it louder for the people in the back.
STOP ABDUCTING FAWNS. THEY LIVE OUTSIDE.

You don't know what to feed this animal, how much to feed it, how often to feed it. Does it need IV fluids or does it need milk? YOU CAN PASS ILLNESSES TO THE FAWN. Having them in your house with your pets and your kids can make the animals sick. So many things can go wrong. DO NOT PICK UP A FAWN AND TAKE IT HOME WITH YOU. If you have found a fawn you think needs help, reach out to a licensed rehabber IMMEDIATELY and wait for instructions BEFORE intervening. And if it does actually need help, be prepared to get it to a rehabber immediately. Don't wait on us to find transport for you and don't take it home for selfies and a snack. If you really want to help that animal, then help that animal by getting it into someone who knows how to take care of it from the very beginning. We are sick of watching these animals die.

It's ironic that people tell us "I don't want it to die in the wild" when they usually die after being taken care of in someone's home who wasn't qualified. The "wild" isn't the problem, the people are.

It is ILLEGAL to raise wildlife in the state of Georgia without a rehab license.

Maybe if we make these posts every single day with a photo of the ones we lose, people will actually start paying attention.
