We have had many pups over the last few months go home, finally starting to share some of our .

Our lists are all caught up except Malinois. We will plan to have a Malinois/Dutch litter end of this year or beginning of next. We have 1 black male GSD pup and 1 sable female GSD pup unreserved from our second GSD litter. Just turned 8 weeks.

We have one black German shepherd male available who is an absolute a***e. 🫣. I mean we have one really nice working prospect male available lol. No pet homes.

We also have one sweet solid black male available as well, he would make a great SAR, nosework, active companion family dog.

I love love love this new line of research and thinking, not just “fix everything at 8 weeks or 24 weeks”

"Researchers at the University of California, Davis, have updated their guidelines on when to neuter 40 popular dog varieties by breed and s*x. Their recent paper in Frontiers in Veterinary Science adds five breeds to a line of research that began in 2013 with a study that suggested that early neutering of golden retrievers puts them at increased risk of joint diseases and certain cancers."
And there are 2 breeds (one s*x) they recommend not sterilizing. Fascinating!

Implied obedience or suppressed behavior. What are you teaching your dog???

I gotta say, this is a BIG one to me these days. Mainstream dog training has led to SO MUCH suppressed behavior that I’m always trying to back peddle dogs we get from other trainers.

While this post may not be targeted just to owners but more so to many trainers, I implore all who read to take note.

Would you rather suppress negative behaviors or teach your dog implied correct obedience? Both achieve the same end goal, a dog in public well behaved and calm. So what’s the difference?

Our clients can point out the difference, as we teach a lot of body language reading and the body language of the dog is a dead giveaway on most.

Let’s have our dogs meet!

Probably one of the most stressful things for most dog owners (and even a lot of dog trainers!) is dog dog meets.

For many it’s 100% a post traumatic stress. Who has experienced a really nasty dog fight? 🖐️

Blood everywhere laundry for days

Bite marks, edema, swelling, surgery and thousands in vet bills on one or two dogs

Get bit separating them? Now you’re running around looking for expired medicine so you don’t have to go to the doctor and report a dog bite from YOUR dogs!

Most nasty fights come from dogs who have lived together forever and have some serious tension building over time. Or there the two dogs who have always had a tiff but never bad, till now.

First off there is help available that can let you can stop living in fear. No your dogs may not be happy playing on the beach during sunset together or share a bowl of ice cream at night, but with training and management you can unpack some of your baggage and get your dogs to coexist.

Exude the energy you want your dog to have.

I Can’t Stress This Enough!!!!!!!!!

One of the biggest things we teach is that your energy and your mindset will drive your body language. This is the number one way your dog reads YOU.

There’s always a long time joke my clients make of “he’s so perfect when your here can you move in “ 😂😂😂 and while I’m flattered (and love when other people cook me dinner 😝) I want my clients to have the ability to mimic my energy and mindset so they don’t need me moved in!

I’ve been training dogs for decades, long before it became a new fad to pop up and be a dog trainer. Back in 2003 when I started there wasn’t many, there was no social media of dog trainers and it was a super frowned upon low paying job.

So what changed? And how do you know what trainer is right and what is going to be a waste?

First you have to find a trainer knowledgeable in the area of training you need. You have to find a trainer with EXPERIENCE. Anyone out there can whip up a nice web site, throw some words down and appear to be much more then they actually have knowledge of.

Next you need to find a trainer of PEOPLE. Yes, just training dogs is not enough to be effective in this business. Sadly all these dog training, train the trainer and college programs are pumping out “dog trainers” with zero ability to teach the human.

You have to be comfortable with the trainer and the methods. There is NO place for human emotions when training dogs or working with people. I’m here to help educate and train, not to put down, belittle or make fun of an owner who does not know or may have been led astray by previous advice. I see it everyday on social media, trainers bashing and picking fun of clients or potential client inquiries and it actually really bothers me. We need to do better.
If you don’t want to help them, refer to someone who does!
Realize that there are extremes in dog training just like everything else in life. We are balanced trainers here, we train scientifically based on how dogs learn and have learned for years, we do not train based on the newest marketing fad or the quick fix get this client out and the next one in.

Whoever you choose to start or improve your relationship with your dog make sure it’ll be your first and last stop!

We welcome Keiko to our two week boarding train program. This sweet Rottie girl was rescued from a local animal shelter. We will work on building her confidence, getting an outlet for all that energy, instilling good foundation obedience, exposing her to many things and breaking down that communication barrier

Well hello Kiera. Day 3 and we are happy with the communication flow. In and out of her run, reaching over her head for slip leash on and off. Sniff walks and some nice loose leash walking work.

How much do you talk to your dog? I’m not referencing that mindless chatter of updating him on the weather that day while sipping your coffee or asking him if he saw the funny commercial on the tv. I’m talking about your one on one training/work time.

Go take your dog for a walk, just a quick one around the block or in your yard for 5 minutes. How many times did you tell him “commands”?? How many times did he listen 🙂. Let’s get that average in our favor.

This is Kiera. She had only even been boarded at a no touch facility and has spent years showing aggression whenever someone makes eye contact with her or approaches her with her mother while leashed. We asked her mom to trust us and to trust our process. We asked her to throw a muzzle on for safety and in about 8 minutes we had a successful aggression free hand off.

We spent some time walking, sniffing and watching our Ranch and it’s sights and people. We swapped around some leashes (Keira has issues with people touching her head as well) unmuzzled her and got her settled in our boarding run.
