Out for a morning stroll with Bug, Brew, and Black Cat. We are a good half-mile in at this point, and the cat is hanging in there for the walk. 🤣
Early morning stroll with my buddy. 🐓
It’s watermelon season here in Cave City, and this far into her pregnancy, Darcy is not planning on sharing any of these rinds with those little old goats.
Her jersey calf is scheduled to arrive next month— fingers crossed that it’s a girl!
**sound on**
How is everyone enjoying the “cicadapocalypse”?
It is amazing to me how mechanical they sound! The first morning they really got revved up here happened to be on a weekend. We live so close to the school that we debated about whether or not to bother someone on a Sunday morning to let them know that they had an alarm going off somewhere on campus. 🤣
Apparently, this year is the first time in 221 years that Brood XIX (on a 13-year cycle) and Brood XIII (on a 17-year cycle) emerge simultaneously. For perspective, the last time these two broods emerged at the same time Thomas Jefferson was in office.
Our house is pretty well insulated, but we can still hear them pretty well from inside the house. Some residents here at the farm find it rather annoying. Personally, I am just yet again astounded by nature! It never ceases to amaze.
The pups are so happy in their new homes!
Pups will be 8 weeks old tomorrow and headed to their new farms this week. I’m going to miss them so much!
Goats held out until totality, but then they hightailed it to the barn!
If you have chickens at your house, don’t forget to watch them during the eclipse. When we had the partial eclipse here a few years back, I watched our entire flock march up their ramp and head inside to roost for the night then confusedly wander right back out as the sun reemerged. Nature is fascinating!
Pups made a visit to yoga again yesterday. At six weeks old, they were a lot more active than they were when we did it at three weeks. It was super cold and windy, but when you promise the team you’ll bring pups to yoga, you’d better bundle up and bring pups to yoga! 🧘 🐶 (photo credit: Cave City girls soccer team 📷)
5 weeks! Their most impressive skill they’ve learned this week is that they are housebroken. I pen puppies up with momma inside the barn overnight. It’s a large space full of shavings so that I can easily clean up their messes, but there is no longer any need. They hold it all night and then follow momma outside in the morning to take care of business. Great Pyrenees are such amazingly smart dogs!
What a difference a week makes! Pups are now four weeks old. They are lapping up water, running all over the place, and playing with each other. So much fun!
