It is with heavy hearts we share with you the passing of one of our kindhearted and dedicated volunteers, Janet Boeyink. Janet's smile and kind soul was undeniable. She will be missed tremendously by our rescued horses, and all the volunteers & staff at Healing Hearts. Our prayers are with Janet's family and friends during this immensely sad time.

At 32 years old, he had seen much of Arizona trail riding through the desert and being a gentle boy for his longtime owner. As his owner aged himself, he knew he was not able to care for Gideon the way life intends us to. He made the difficult decision to bring Gideon to Healing Hearts, but knew he would be loved beyond compare and continue to receive all the medical attention and love he so deserved. While his hooves were failing him in his final few months, we made sure to medically monitor his condition, and respected when he told us it was time to say goodbye. These are the hard days in rescue. We will miss you sweetest boy! You are with so many special Healing Hearts angels. 🤍 To support

With thousands of dollars spent on their care, and countless hours of love and support, these horses are becoming whole again. The Riderless Horse: one of the oldest and most moving military traditions in a full honor funeral is the riderless, caparisoned horse. The horse is led behind the caisson wearing an empty saddle with the rider’s boots reversed in the stirrups, indicating the warrior will never ride again.
Let’s all join in this Memorial Day to remember the heroes we have lost and the families they leave behind.

Prayers, prayers and more prayers needed for our little Poseidon. He was rushed back to the hospital with a sky high fever, edema and elevated heart rate. What is typically a simple surgery (gelding) has turned into almost two weeks of hosptial stays, massive complications & pain for this sweet boy. Possibly the reason DOZENS of Belgian Draft colts have been dumped at the kill pen this last year. Please help if you can. 💙

Since his rescue, Brae had much needed farrier work, has seen multiple veterinarians, & had extensive surgery to remove all his front teeth due to advanced E.O.T.R.H., a painful dental disease. Now that the diseased and infected teeth have been pulled, he is healing nicely and we expect an overall improvement in his well-being ❤️ Our community has truly rallied together to assist in his care- and our KIND HEARTED hay supplier, El Hay Guy, has donated 20 bales to be raffled off to anyone who donates $20 or more! You’re a long way from the killpen, Larry. 💙 What a journey this has been. Dumped at the killpen without much hope in sight, Larry had hundreds of thousands of views, yet had not been bailed after weeks and weeks of being posted. Thank goodness an angel donor contacted us to ask if we could offer Larry a safe landing…of course we said yes-but we were thousands of miles away. This is where our incredible (and amazing, kindhearted, fabulous….there aren’t enough adjectives) friends at FarmHouse Fresh Animal Sanctuary stepped in! They raced to pick Larry up at the lot, and gave him a beautiful foster sanctuary to restore his strength and medically prepared him for transport to Healing Hearts. Thanks to another fantastic group, Hearts For Hope Horse Haven, Larry safely arrived at Healing Hearts a few months ago. Saturday Snacks 🍉 Enjoying a watermelon snack may be simple, but Lucky didn’t always feel comfortable with people interacting with him. Lucky is a 24 year old BLM Mustang who was captured in 2000 at Nellie AFB in Nevada. He was adopted out from their program in 2001, and was sadly found abandoned on the side of a highway in 2013. Thanks to Journey’s End Rescue, Lucky was taken into their Sanctuary before arriving at Healing Hearts in 2020. He arrived very frightened of touch, but has come to know and love our volunteers & staff who dote on him daily. Look who’s feeling so much better!! Poseidon! This sweet Belgian draft youngster was rescued from an Oklahoma kill pen just a few months ago. Last month, Poseidon had a lengthy recovery after an extremely complicated gelding. Although rare, gelding complications can happen and we are so grateful he is on the other side of this scary ordeal. Time to meet the newest girls! A few months ago we were asked to take in 2 sweet, senior Arabian mares. These girls had been living in pasture for quite some time, without much human interaction. Years prior, they had had several babies, and even a little bit of training. Right before they arrived, Margaret had major dental surgery, and there was a hole in her nasal cavity that needed to heal. Through time, medical care and support from our medical team & staff, this gorgeous girl is healing nicely. Her best friend, Sword, has struggled with lameness issues and is being assisted with special gel shoes. These gorgeous girls are very bonded, and will only be adopted together. Though Margaret may recall her previous training from years ago, we have not worked with her specifically due to her rehab needs. Sword will only be available as a BEAUTIFUL and stunning companion. Our big girl Iris has been adopted 💗Just two months ago, this beautiful Belgian mare was dumped at an Oklahoma killpen after years of serving her humans. We knew she would find an incredible future through our rescue program, and an angel donor stepped up to assist with her bail, transport and quarantine fees. Truly an amazing blessing for this giant hearted girl. Iris found her match this week with a loving family who has 10 heavenly acres in Utah. Her new barn, property and parents are a dream come true!
