It’s that time of the year again! Time for Scottsdale Riding Club’s annual Karma Project! For the 13th annual Karma Project, we have chosen to aid Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center! Bring your donations to the barn no later than November 27th at the Holiday Party. Help us aid those in our local community struggling this holiday season.

These are great RIDING RULES FOR Middle Aged HORSEWOMEN

1) We DO NOT need to show up with our hair combed and wearing makeup and a clean shirt.

2) Moaning, groaning and complaining about aching muscles is perfectly acceptable, as is taking Motrin (or something stronger) prior to a ride.

3) Helping someone on or off the horse does not mean the rider is an invalid. It only means the horse got taller overnight.

4) No one will comment about how big someone's butt looks in a saddle.

5) Everyone will wait patiently while someone dismounts and adjusts equipment. They will also wait patiently until that person re-mounts and is ready to move on--no matter how long that takes.

6) When a horse is acting up, we will just accept that it is having a bad hair day - it is not the rider's fault.

7) Mentioning that it is too hot, too dry, too humid, too cold, too wet, too buggy, etc., is considered self-expression, not whining.

8)Wanting to be first, last, walk, or just stop does not mean the rider is a wimp. Sometimes it is necessary to teach a horse who is in charge.

9) We will take time to discuss the important issues of the day, like who is dating who, who is cheating on who and any other relevant information that needs to be passed on.

10) We will acknowledge that horses are very strange animals and that sometimes, for no reason at all, we fall off of them. If this happens to any rider, the other riders will ascertain that the person is okay and then not mention the incident to another living soul, especially husbands and significant others.

11) Our horses are not fat, they are "big-boned."

12) We need to keep this riding thing mysterious and strange-sounding. If everyone finds out how much fun it is, the price of horses will go up and we will not be able to afford a dozen of them.

13) If we want, we can show up in English helmets and boots and ride in a western saddle if we feel like it, so we can take more stuff with us and no one is allowed to make comments.

☝️ When tightening your horse's girth for a ride, you should tighten it incrementally on either side so that it's on a similar hole on both sides. This will ensure that your saddle will sit in the center of your horse's back and that your horse is comfortable during the ride! 🐴

We are blessed to have such a beautiful facility to call home 🐴❤️

With the space that we have, we have decided to hold some educational events this year, and we wanted to ask YOU what you would like to learn about. We will find speakers who are certified and skilled in each topic to come and teach a little seminar on various aspects of horse care or equestrian sports.

From your first riding lesson at SRC, you were told to pick your horse’s hooves out every single day. But why?

Prevention is cheaper than a cure—and nowhere is this more true than in the case of picking out hooves. There are lots of good reasons to clean your horse’s hooves on a regular basis, including…

🐴 Removing random objects from the hoof that could puncture or damage it
🐴 Detecting infections, like Thrush.
🐴 Identifying problems, like a loose nail or a shift in a shoe
🐴 Training - your horse should pick up his feet confidently and willingly
🐴 Bonding - grooming your horse, picking his or her feet, and taking care of your horse is just good care and bonding time for the both of you!

Give it a try! Make picking out your horse’s hooves a part of your regular grooming routine. Your horse, farrier, vet, and wallet will thank you for it! Raise your hand in the comments if it’s already a part of your daily grooming routine 🙋‍♀️

Meet Madison, one of our instructors at SRC! Madi is a 2nd generation horsewoman. With a strong background in , she has sucessfully competed to Regional and National titles in both Pleasure and Equitation. Madison is a natural teacher, patient yet particular. She has a competitive spirit and a true passion for horses. At Scottsdale Riding Club, Madison will focus on the development of young riders, creating a safe and fun learning environment for children of all ages. Your children will adore Madi and her energetic style, so let’s get them in the saddle in the new year! 🐴🥳

No stirrups? No problem!

Work without stirrups is a great tool for any rider regardless of discipline.

🐴 Allows a rider to reach another level of feel, balance and suppleness in the saddle

🐴 Helps increase awareness of your own biomechanics as well as the horse’s

🐴 Teaches you a sense of balance, builds core strength and improves your feel of the horse underneath you

Christmas is all about the spirit of giving and helping those in need. The Karma Project is something we do every year to give back - this year we have chosen to donate to Foothills Food Bank.
