Meet Ambar, a gorgeous ❤️ Walkaloosa mare from Puerto Rico which was recently registered with the WHA.

In Puerto Rico they prefer the Paso or Paso Fino horse, that’s what is considered a good horse on the island. They call Paso or Paso Criollo to most of the horses and Paso Fino to the very short 4 lateral beat steps. Not all Paso horses are FINO. Paso Fino must have two DMRT3 gait genes, not all Paso horses have two DMRT3 genes.

The NWGHA Spring Celebration was put on by the North West Gaited Horse Association at the Oregon Horse Center. Tenmile’s Ace (Ace’s Flashy Cut) Walkaloosa Stallion placed First in the Open Gaited Breed Model 2 and Over. Ace also placed Fourth in the Model Championship against some really nice Tennessee Walking Horses.

Welcome Tenmiles Double Down to the WHA!

This handsome c**t, "Dude" represents Tenmiles third generation of their Walkaloosa breeding program. Dude has up to five generations of registered Walkaloosas in his pedigree. He is everything we love about the breed: kind, smart, sturdy, super gaited and easy on the eye.

Dude is going to a private owner in Georgia who has raised five boys and cares for a herd of rescue horses. This c**t is her fitting reward for all that she has done for others through the years. Congratulations Lara! (photo courtesy Tenmile Walkaloosas)❤️

Congratulations! Way to go Damaris and Joker!

Joker’s Wild Streak (WHA 0910) and owner Damaris Smith are active competitors in endurance! As of the end of the 2023 season they have completed 510 LD (rides 25-30mi in length) miles and 250 Endurance (rides 50mi in length) miles and won 6 Best Condition awards over 5 years of competing, all while as they learned the sport together!

Whenever possible, Joker competes barefoot and bitless — all the easier to eat on the trail! Joker also performs all his gaits on the endurance trail in order to stay fresh — the walk, stepping pace, rack, trot, and canter.

Joker is also registered with the ApHC through their hardship registration program. So this year, the team competed in the 2023 Appaloosa National Championship 50mi Endurance Ride at Huntersville Hundred in Menahga, MN. They came home with the win and best condition award with a ride time of 6 hours and 41 minutes! Bravo Joker and Damaris!

Damaris is also bringing along two other Walkaloosa horses in the sport of endurance, half siblings Firelily Moon River (WHA 1361) and Dancer’s Selena Rain (WHA 1360). Both have completed their first 25mi rides this year, and River went on to have 80 LD miles for the 2023 season.

We hope to see many more Walkaloosa horses out on the endurance trail in the future! Please send us your competition details and photos!

Beautiful "Medicine Hat" c**t

The Medicine Hat horse is extremely rare with unique markings and a fascinating history steeped in Native American legend. These horses are white or mostly white with darker hair covering their ears and tops of heads, also know as a “War Bonnet”. Some have a “Shield” on their chest. Medicine Hat horses with one or two blue eyes are valued even more.

According to Native American history, these horses were said to have magical powers and therefore were highly prized. Mythology and tradition say that some of those powers protected from injury or death and warned of danger in battle.
Medicine Hat horses were considered sacred and it was the highest honor to ride one, a privilege given only to tribal chiefs, medicine men, and the greatest warriors.

Enemy tribes would even attempt to steal the closely guarded Medicine Hat horse in order to receive that horse’s protection and magic as well as take that same protection away from the enemy tribe.
