For the past 20 years, Veterinary Medical Center of CNY has provided 24/7 veterinary emergency access to the pet owning public of Central New York and beyond. Through that time we have moved into a new facility, withstood weather related states of emergency/municipal closures, and faced a global pandemic -- all without shutting our doors for a single moment.

After evaluating many creative scheduling options and discussions with our team, however, we have decided we need to temporarily discontinue offering emergency receiving services on Fridays and Saturdays beginning Friday, September 30th.

We will be unable to receive patients between the hours of 2am Fridays through 8am Sundays in order to provide the best patient care, client care, and attention to our staff needs. We intend to remain in this receiving pattern until at least March 2023, and will routinely reevaluate when we might return to 24/7 availability.

Please be sure you are using ER care for true emergency situations only. Our limited emergency staff is not able to accommodate care based on client convenience, and must prioritize the pets who need us the most.

We also appreciate this entirely accurate statement from the Animal Alliance of Greater Syracuse:

"It is also critical that you be kind and understanding when seeking ER care. The sole reason the VMC is reducing hours is staffing. Veterinary medicine as a whole has a critical shortage of doctors and staff. Many are leaving our profession due to burn out and repeated poor treatment from clients. Understand that if we continue to lose staff and doctors there will continue to be less options for emergency care. So when you are in need of this care please remember to be kind to those that are there offering the care."

We finally have the green light to start opening up the clinic!

It will be a somewhat-slow transition so we can make sure everyone is safe. Because our clinic is small, it is impossible to do the social distancing thing, so we will use the parking-lot as a 'waiting room' and will es**rt you in one at a time from there.

Food and medication pick up as well as technician appointments will still be done curbside at this time.

We are asking only one masked person in the building per appointment. Those of you still wishing to can still do the curbside care.

We will post more on both our webpage and Facebook in the coming weeks to go over all the changes.

We will continue to follow the guidelines from the NYSVMS (New York State Veterinary Medical Society) and the Governor’s office to make sure we are keeping not only our staff safe but also our clients. As we await further directives, we will remain curbside per the guidelines that have been set forth for us by the Governor’s office. Our staff and anyone in the building will also be required to still wear a mask as preventative measures. We appreciate your patience as we try to maneuver through this unprecedented occasion and will update you when our stance has changed.
