This small tag won’t mean anything to most people. But to the mustangs, and mustang people this tag is everything. This tag is placed around a mustangs neck, along with a brand that they will wear forever that tells them they’re no longer free, now forever a prisoner to captivity.
Something most people don’t think about is the amount of loss a mustangs suffers. Not only do they lose their freedom, they lose their entire herd (family), and everything they have ever known.
So when we get these mustangs, these scared, sacred animals we need to remember to be gentle and understanding. We need to become their family, and their safe place. They’ll never get their old life back, so it is up to us to give them the best possible life after captivity.
