As cold weather approaches, it’s important to remember that our pets need protection from the harsh elements. While we bundle up in layers, our furry friends may struggle with the dropping temperatures.

Here are some key points on winter pet safety:

Keep Pets Indoors: During extreme cold, keep pets inside to protect them from frostbite, hypothermia, and other cold-related dangers.
Short Bathroom Breaks: If your pet needs to go outside, limit the time they spend in the cold, especially if they have short fur or are small.
Warm Bedding: Provide cozy bedding and blankets to keep pets warm inside your home, especially if they’re older or have shorter coats.
Protect Paws: Salt, ice, and chemicals on the ground can irritate your pet’s paws. Wipe their paws after outdoor walks, or consider using dog booties for protection.
Check for Winter Gear: If your pet has a short coat or is sensitive to the cold, consider getting them a pet-friendly sweater or jacket.
Monitor for Signs of Cold Stress: Shivering, lethargy, or lifting paws off the ground can indicate that your pet is too cold. Bring them inside immediately.
Protect from Poisoning: Keep antifreeze, de-icing salts, and other chemicals out of your pet’s reach, as they can be toxic if ingested.
