Guided a group from Southern Arkansas this weekend at Highland Hideaway, Saturday and Sunday. 11 guys total and we split the group 5 and 6 to a guide. I had the group of 5. Grandpas, dads, uncles, brothers and sons, 17-74 yrs old. My group ended up with 79 birds for the weekend and as Grandpa put it, "It's not about winning, it's about having fun, but we did get a couple more birds with one less guy!".
Had one guy ask me how much one of my pups would cost, he had sent a couple pics home to his wife and she wanted to know which one he was bringing home. I just couldn't sell one, they work to hard for me and seem to be enjoying their life as it is.
Hunt was a lot of fun and I feel lucky to be a part of their yearly trip this time.
No bird in the video but it was nice to hunt with a group that approached a dog with guns pointed up, held a reasonable line for safety and how can you not appreciate the scenery.

Perfect day for a hunt at Highland Hideaway. We covered just under 7 miles walking, dogs average 3-4 times a persons distance in the field, they work so hard for us. Dogs did amazing, as they always do, 5 guys and 40 birds. We even managed to find the elusive pillow bird!

Pixie and Asher honoring Jeff Chapmans Countryside Huck, so much more to hunting than finding, pointing and retrieving birds. I haven't put my pups through whoa or honor training yet, they are 1.5 yrs old and have figured out on their own to respect another dogs point. 212 birds so far this year at Highland Hideaway Hunting preserve.

Morning hunt with Finn, a Pudelpointer I had the pleasure of training this year and Asher.
The dogs worked well on the wild birds. The ground had been hunted 2-3 times since Sunday opener but if you have the best dogs they will find the smartest roosters missed by the less fortunate hunters. Dogs pointed 3 roosters and 2 hens. Not sure what happened with the 3rd rooster, it was chaos, wings flapping, cackle of satan, straight into the sun and the bird was wearing a bullet proof vest is what Terry Pump told me. Looked like a balloon, 15 feet off the ground and straight away from my vantage point but I could be wrong. If you look close one of the roosters doesn't have a tail, my gun is shooting low for some reason. We saw where he landed and swung around the area and got another shot at him. Was a great hunt and lots of fun, thanks for the invite Terry.

Whipstall dogs have retrieved 75 birds so far this year over 5 guided hunts. You can tell they love to hunt because they look so good doing it!
Asher and Pixie working together, with those two locked up I wouldn't wager against a bird being there.

Pixie solo point, she won't move til that bird is in the air.

Asher with a retrieve, he was a little stubborn releasing the bird early in the season but has figured out we don't go get more til the bird is in my hand.

All them have been great, each with a natural retrieve, makes hunting and guiding a true pleasure behind these dogs.

UPDATE: We have expanded our distance for Buck to within' 100 miles. As we have only gotten a couple actual applications, so many want him but few applied. Please note, these applications are very easy to fill out on line and come directly to us. We would love for him to have a country setting, and my dream (Vicky) for him would be to have a heated porch for him to lie on in the sun when the weather gets cold. Our vets take him to their outside kennels and he always goes in and snuggles up inside one of their outside doggie houses for a couple hours until being brought back inside where he seems to love the warmth and seems very comfortable. So a quiet, relaxing place, preferably fenced in and with loving arms would be wonderful.

We are now accepting forever foster applications for Buck. Let us explain it. Whom ever becomes his forever foster will be his forever family and will make the decisions on his life however Whispurring Hope rescue will keep him under our wings and cover any and all cost and needs he may have this includes any toys, blankets, beds, food etc. anything that brings him comfort to all his vet bills. With this being said we are looking for a home close enough to which is now his vet in Dyersville Iowa for any emergency or vetting he may need. You will fill out a pre application for adoption and our foster form as this is a different situation and most of our foster form would not apply. Although he is making great progress everyday due to the trauma to his head and his age we will stay within a 50 mile radius of Dyersville

Praying we find the perfect forever.

Asher holding a bird tight. I think after missing a few he wasn't going to let this one get to far away!

Koa and Asher pinning a running bird. No way! I had trouble believing they missed myself! But I wasn't shooting, so I can always say I would have hit it.

Guiding season is here! I always hear about the Lab, the Shorthair, the Vizsla and an occasional GWP of the clients that they grew up with, always a smile on their face as the memories come back to them. Their dog is to old or they don't have time to train and care for a gundog with the limited hunting they do now. Our lives are so busy. You never know what a person will love about a dog. I was reminded this week it isn't always about performance as it is about having fun and making memories. Griz, one of my dogs, that has been cautious in the field and has a close field search, a bit hesitant to venture out and lead but is very solid on point and finds birds, had a client fall in love with him as soon as he hit the ground. The client couldn't get over how much they liked the look of Griz and even gave him a nickname. So, I would like to introduce Whipstalls Abominable Grizzly AKA "Big Sexy". Nothing like being in the field and here a client yell "Come on, Big Sexy is on point, don't miss and disappoint him" to know they will remember this hunt for ever.

Whipstalls Adventurous Otto received a Prize 1 112/112 today! Adam did an amazing job training and caring for Otto. So many things can throw a test off for a pup and handler, so it's great when it all comes together. Great job Adam and Otto!

Whipstalls Audacious Ozzy Huntz, tested NAVHDA Natural Ability June 4th and scored 98/112, Prize 3. A Prize 1 score is from 112-99, Prize 2 98-80, Prize 3 79-58. Each section requires a minimum score to receive the higher prize. Ozzy ended up with a 2 in search and that dropped him to a Prize 3 classification, a 2 in cooperation and 4's in every other aspect of the Natural Ability test. Ozzy discovered the caged birds were in the tree line next to the start of the field and was confused why everyone wanted to continue hunting the field when they were right there! (The 2's in cooperation and search) Proud of this score and the owner who trained Ozzy.

Whipstalls Adelwolf Asher scored 112/112 for a NAVHDA Natural Ability Prize 1, perfect score! He was on fire Sunday, his cover of the field search was fast and big, quartering nicely and flying by us for a quick check in, slamming in on points. He had a slow cautious search where you could see him thinking and figuring out which way the bird went, stalking the scent trail to find the bird, the best track he has ever done, I was impressed, a week ago he would track for about 10 feet then break into his field search. Figured it out just in time. Asher's swim portion had everyone smiling, he jumps as high and as far off the bank as he can for the entry, landing and going completely under water coming up already swimming forward. Asher is a machine and the toughest dog to handle training and in the field, very challenging at times, but love to watch him work.
