To our family and friends at Animal Care Hospital, we wanted to share a quick post from our friends at AVMA - please see below and reach out to the office (319-378-9000) for any additional questions!

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) is warning pet owners about a mystery canine respiratory pathogen. Attached are some articles explaining more. We have reason to believe there may be cases in Iowa. The AVMA recommends keeping your pets at home this Thanksgiving and avoiding the dog park or large canine gatherings to prevent spread while they gather more information about the type of pathogen and how to treat it. Experts do not know if it is bacterial or viral, but we know it is more severe than normal respiratory pathogens and does not respond to the antibiotics normally used. They recommend that if your dog is coughing, sneezing, lethargic, or having nasal or eye discharge, please call a veterinarian right away. They recommend keeping your pet up to date on their vaccines including Bordetella, a respiratory pathogen to best protect their immune system. Respiratory pathogens are often species specific so, though we do not yet know for certain, it's unlikely any other species than canine will be affected.

Keep your furry family members safe this Holiday Season 🌲✨

As we're prepping for the coming weeks, let's not forget about our pets! Some holiday decorations might look tempting, but they can be hazardous 🚫

πŸŽ„ Pine needles, tinsel, and tree water - keep them out of reach

🌺 Beware of poinsettias and other harmful plants

In recognition of National Pet Diabetes Month, keep your pets clear of rich, fatty foods!

Keep holiday goodies and rich human food away from your pets! Giving your pets human food that is rich in seasoning and fat could cause stomach upset, weight gain, and could lead to diabetes 😯πŸ₯£

What makes a good pet doctor?

Is it comprehensive services, a top-notch facility or highly skilled staff?

At Animal Care Hospital, we believe it’s much more than this. We believe it’s about creating a partnership with our clients and developing a special bond with their pets. It’s about sharing our passion for animals and going the extra mile to make a difference.

For our clients, that means being there to provide support, even if it’s just a shoulder to lean on or an ear to listen. For our patients, it means taking the time to make them feel comfortable and at ease. We’re known for our compassion and the measures we take to make our facility warm and inviting. From the moment you walk through the door you’ll notice the difference.
