S.A.I.N.T. Rescue (Saving Animals in Need Today)

S.A.I.N.T. Rescue (Saving Animals in Need Today) SAINT is a cat only rescue located in Cedar Rapids IA. End suffering of cats by reducing unwanted litters through TNR, spay/neuter and adoption services.
(86)

SAINT Rescue has been in existence for over 20 years, rescuing and adopting out cats and kittens. All veterinary and medical expenses were funded primarily by our founder for the first 15 years of our existence. SAINTs was formally incorporated and obtained its 501C(3) status in 2010. Donations are necessary and greatly appreciated to help us continue to do our work. All donations are tax deductib

le to the extent allowable by law. All of the animals we take in have been abandoned by someone. We adopt out approximately 350 cats and kittens every year. Unfortunately, more kitties need to be rescued than we can possibly help.

It's that time of year. The annual Festival of Trees is being held at Lindale Mall this weekend. Saint Cat Rescue has a tree in the event again this year. Our theme is Paw Made. All of our ornaments are made by the shelter cats. Stop by and see all the trees.

Ducky came to us at the end of September after his caregivers were concerned about his health. He was much smaller than his siblings and had a terrible URI.
Antibiotics did little to help his recovery, so off he went for bloodwork at Heartland Animal Hospital Fairfax, where he was diagnosed with FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). After just 30 days of his 84-day treatment plan, he is going amazing. He has gained 2 lbs 9 oz.
FIP is no longer a death sentence. There is treatment available through your vet. If your vet isn't aware of the treatment, please contact us. Once your cat is diagnosed, it's imperative to start treatment ASAP.

These are difficult times. There are too many cats and not enough homes or shelter spots for all of them. We are receiving dozens of calls, messages & emails each week looking for help with kittens or cats. Some of the reasons:
*People fail to fix their cats and end up with more.
*People feeding community cats but failing to have them fixed. Then the kittens arrive & they all have to go.
*People die but fail to make arrangements for their pets.
*Renters fail to find housing where they can have their pet.
*Renters facing eviction after being found with pets without landlord approval.
*People feeding community cats but now that it's getting cold, they want to find them a home ASAP.
*People unable to afford their pets any longer.
*People unable or unwilling to provide healthcare for their pet.
*People "rescue" a cat off FB or Free Pet sites only to turn around & expect a rescue or shelter to take it.

Having to tell so many people no, wears on a person. It's heartbreaking to know that many of these cats that you can't help will probably be dumped, mistreated or die.

The community needs to do their part if we are to ever fix the overpopulation issue. Spay and neuter your pets and you community cats too.

KCRG-TV9’s Danielle Wagner visited with staff and volunteers at area animal shelters and rescues to find out how they’re dealing with compassion fatigue.

Bitsy went to her forever home last night!!
She is now 6 months old and weighs 7 lbs. She arrived on 7/30 weighing 2-1/2 lbs ...half the size of her brothers.
Bitsy suffered from a PPDH (peritoneal-percardial diaphragmatic hernia). It is an otherwise fatal condition without surgery.
Thank you to all who donated to her care.
Also, thanks to our volunteer, Angela, for convincing the caretaker to give her up & TNRing the colony. Thanks to Dr Ellsworth at Heartland Animal Hospital Fairfax for diagnosing her and to Iowa State University Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center for performing surgery. It takes a village.

Update on the "Yours, Mine & Ours" gang.
We added 2 more kittens, bringing the total to 7.
The orange boys are pretty comfortable with their new moms & siblings.
As you can see, they are very messy kitties. They are using the litterbox and all are eating on their own with an occasional drink from the moms.

Today's spotlight is going out to our beautiful girl, Autumn.
Autumn has only been here a few weeks, and has already come so far. Autumn is a biscuit making machine!! Those little paws are always working hard.
Autumn has blossomed into a little love bug. She is still nervous about being held, but wants pets all day long.
If you'd like to come meet this gorgeous queen, please feel free to stop in today to see her between 11 and 2 for our open house.
We are also out at the Marion library today from 10-12.

You always save the best for last right? Granted I might be a little biased about these four. They were my foster babies and they'll be at the Marion library Cat Cafe on Saturday. I'd like everyone to meet Count Chocula, Franken Berry, Boo Berry and Scovill.

I'd like everyone to meet Victoria. Or Queen Victoria which is what some volunteers call her. She's royalty and she knows it. Victoria is around 1 and a half years old. She was found at a local trailer park with her litter of kittens. All of her kittens have found their forever homes, so know it's Victoria's turn.
You can visit her at the Marion library Cat Cafe on Saturday from 10-12.

Harriet is a 6 month old female kitten. She is a very social and lovable little girl. She will be at the Marion library Cat Cafe on Saturday, November 2nd. The really strange thing is that she was found at the Marion library in a locked kennel. Hopefully this trip to the library is a better one and she finds her forever family.

Uno is taking Halloween so literally this year! πŸ˜‰ Despite a couple of disadvantages in life (one-eyed and leukemia positive), Uno always seems to see the joy in life. He loves toys, playing with the cats and dog in his foster home, and cuddling on warm laps. If you like forever winking kittens and kitten cuddles, Uno may be the right fit for your home! Since he is leukemia-positive, it is preferable that he be a single cat or go to a home with other leukemia-positive cats, or cats that are fully vaccinated for leukemia due to his leukemia-positive status, however he may not always be positive for leukemia due to his age. He is only 4 months old, and can be retested in a few months to see if he is still positive and may be negative by that time. Please contact us if you have any questions about this sweet guy!
