Our Story
Kirkwood Community College created the Iowa Sustainable Village in an effort to endorse more sustainable building practices. As a means to get more students, faculty and staff involved in the village the Sustainable Garden Club (SEEDS) club was started. This is no ordinary garden club; our acronym SEEDS stands for Seeking Ethical Environmental Development Sustainably. Our goal is to help all the departments within the school to develop more sustainable practices. Sustainability means self-reliance, which is why we have welding workshops, building workshops and irrigation workshops as well as planting seeds and harvesting food. We give our community access to organically grown fresh produce and teach how to garden.
