The Cedartown Humane Society is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization established in 2014 in Polk County, Georgia Vision: Polk County is a caring community that will reduce the surplus population of pets and find loving homes for all animals in need. Goals: 1) Partner with Polk County Animal Control to establish an innovative, aggressive adoption program. 2) Initiate Responsible Pet Ownership education in public schools. 3) Increase funding for local animal rescue and adoption groups. 4) Raise public awareness of the importance of spraying or neutering pets. 5) Identify foster homes for animals awaiting adoption. 6) Develop an age appropriate Responsible Pet Ownership (RPO) program for presentation in county schools. 7) Recruit presenters for RPO programs, secure approval from Polk County Elementary Schools. 8) Recruit and train volunteers to run a surrender prevention/pet retention program. 9) Secure grants and corporate sponsorships to increase funding for animal needs. 10) Partner with local and regional media to publicize animal adoption information and increase public awareness of low-cost spaying and neutering programs. 11) Work with county officials to increase public confidence by improving and transparency of animal control operations. 12) Educate local and state public offials on the advantages of mandating breeder's licenses for un-spayed or un-neutered dogs and cats.
We are also working to build the Kimoto Animal Clinic and Shelter on land donated by Kimoto. The facility will offer low-cost vet services on a more regular basis than we can do now, including vaccinations, spaying and neutering as well as have space to house animals ready for adoption. This will be an enormous benefit to not only Polk County, but to surrounding counties as it will reduce the unwanted and stray animal population, provide additional space for more animals to be pulled from the animal shelter, and provide a low-cost vet option to those not only in Polk County, but to those in surrounding counties that does not currently exist.
