If you're new to sub-zero temps, here are a few things you should know: -BRING YOUR PETS INSIDE!! -Don't leave pets out for more than a few minutes -Keep your house heated to a minimum of 65 degrees -Know where the location for your main water shutoff -Open hot and cold faucets enough to let them drip slowly (mainly for pipes on exterior walls of your home) -Open bathroom cabinets to keep heat circulating near pipes -Check on elderly neighbors -Make sure your heat is working properly and test those carbon monoxide detectors -If you have a frozen pipe, don't wait for them to burst before fixing -Get supplies (water, candles, batteries, etc, in case of power outages or water shutoffs) -Change your furnace filter if it hasn't been done recently -Wear appropriate gear outdoors - don't underestimate how dangerous the cold can be -frostbite and hypothermia can set quickly -Cover outdoor plumbing if possible -If you are going to be driving around, wear winter layers and bring snacks, water and blankets in your vehicle in case it stalls. ...Any other tips/advice?
