Dundee, Dundee, Dundee! Dundee and I logged a lot of hours together between pet-sits and drop-ins, his loss hit me a little extra hard, though I cried for all of these babies and still do when I think of and miss them.
Dundee was a kong frisbee champion. I once said Pepper would be a frisbee Olympian and Dundee shared that deep and enduring passion. Picking it up never failed in picking up his spirits and sending him bounding for the door.
This guy had had a tough road prior to his forever home and it showed in his dislike of men and wariness toward anyone new. There’s a special place in my heart always, for the ones who are picky. The ones for whom not just any pet-sitter will do. I was honored that he decided I could stay and I never took it for granted. If he let you into his heart, you were the lucky recipient of the biggest, deepest well of love, joy and respect.
Lessons from Dundee: don’t give up on the hard ones, they will always be the hardest to lose.
It’s only fitting that my “hard” as all get out foster (now my adopted dog 🙄) who is still scared of Boots and Noah after 8+ months…loves Dundee’s old crate and uses it regularly thanks to another generous donation!
If I feel this rattled by each loss as the pet-sitter who sees them for a week here or there 🥹, I can’t imagine what you as their owners must have felt this year. I’ve decided you all and pet owners in general are saints. Thank you for letting me be a part of the cherished moments of your babies’ lives.
