Feline Friday!
Today meet Perry. He is an eleven month old gray tabby cat.
Perry is an absolute ham. He loves attention and will get in between you and whoever you are petting. He is front and center if a camera comes out. He thrives on attention. Perry loves to be held and purrs the whole time.
He is a climber. He will climb the condo door to get your attention. He gets along with other cats and enjoys playing.
Perry is relatively quiet. He purrs when being held, but isn't vocal otherwise. He is very inquisitive. While being held and petted, he is constantly looking around to see what is going on.
Perry is a great cat who deserves his own home. If you are interested in Perry, please complete the application at humanesocietyhoco.org.

Tails Up Tuesday!
Today, meet two of our smallest residents. Seven (female) and Eleven (male). They are 9 weeks old and full of puppy energy.
These two were found by a good samaritan in a box during a thunder storm several weeks ago. He brought them to us soaking wet, covered in fleas, and terrified. We gave them some food and water and let them calm down a bit. Then they each got two baths in dawn dish soap. They were combed with a flea brush to rid them of fleas. Once clean, fed, and dry they slept as a dog only does when it knows it is safe.
Seven and Eleven look to have a bit of Sheltie in them, but they are very small.
Seven is the girl. She is smaller and her hair isn't as fluffy. Eleven is the boy. He is larger with fluffy hair. Both are as sweet as can be. They love attention and can get very loud trying to get it.
They fight like siblings then curl up and sleep together. They are happiest when they are being held or wrestling over a toy.
They have an upcoming vet appointment, then they can be adopted.
If you are interested in Seven or Eleven please complete the application at humanesocietyhoco.org.

Wilder escaped the fence from his foster. Smokerise/Tharpe/Whippoorwill Dr. area! If you see please do NOT chase! Try to corral him into a fence or perhaps sit and see if he will come to you. Traps have been set. He was still hanging around in that area earlier in the afternoon.

Feline Friday!
Today, meet Astrid. She is about 2 years old and is a calico and white cat.
Astrid is a very sweet, quiet girl who loves attention. She came to us last year with 4 newborn kittens. Unfortunately, all her babies died.
Astrid is ready for her furever home. She gets along with cats and people. She did well with dogs in her foster home. She will likely be fine with a dog that respects her personal space.
Astrid enjoys being petted, held, and talked to by our volunteers.
If you are interested in Astrid, please complete the application at humanesocietyhoco.org.

No feature today. Instead, I'd like to discuss what it takes to run a rescue.
1. Volunteers are critical. We need volunteers now more than ever. These are the people who come in once a week, once a month, or more often to care for dogs and cats. This typically involves: taking dogs out, feeding, cleaning kennels, bringing dogs in. Cat volunteers clean kennels, feed, and make sure they have clean water. Cat people also give medication if it is needed. Laundry/dishes people do 4-8 loads of laundry per shift, wash an unreal amount of dishes and dog toys, bag up laundry for people to wash at home.
We then sweep, mop, and clean the outside kennels. Morning shift does this in about 4 hours. Night shift takes just under 3.
2. Donations. We are a non-profit organization. We survive on donations from the community. We appreciate every donation of dog/cat food and supplies. We also appreciate the monetary donations that come in each month.
3. Fosters. We require our fosters to volunteer with us prior to fostering.
4. Behind the scenes volunteers.
We have a lady who manages our website, another manages our finances. We have laundry fairies who pick up dirty laundry to wash, dry, and return. We have vet transport. 2 days each week someone takes our animals to the vet and back. There are several people who aren't able to work a shift, but they help in other ways.
There are so many people who contribute to the Humane Society by giving their time. It really does take a village to keep our rescue open.
If you want to volunteer, complete the application on our website. You can choose what you want to do and how often.
If you are interested in volunteering or donating you can find out more on our website.

Feline Friday!
Today, we have another very special girl for you to meet.
Hello, wonderful humans! 🌟
Allow me to introduce myself—I’m Stevie Wonder, a 1½-year-old bundle of joy. Despite being blind and a bit on the chubby side, I’m incredibly soft, cuddly, and full of love. My journey hasn’t been easy; I lost one eye while living in the wild, and the other was in bad shape when the amazing folks at the Houston County Humane Society rescued me. They took such good care of me, and although I can’t see anymore, I’m pain-free and thriving.
Life has thrown me some curveballs, but my foster mom says you’d never guess it because I’m so sweet and trusting. I love lounging on her lap, purring for hours, playing with my toys, and exploring my home. I even get the zoomies—well, mini zoomies, since I can’t go too fast.
One day, a tiny new foster brother arrived. He’s super fast and loves jumping on me. I chase him around, even though he’s too quick for me. It’s so much fun, and I think I’ve even lost a bit of weight thanks to our playful antics!
Despite my rough start, I just know there’s a bright future ahead. I’m dreaming of the day when I find my special human who will take me to my furrever home, where I’ll be showered with love and cuddles. 🏡✨
P.S. I’m okay with other kitties, but I’m not so sure about dogs and young children.
Can’t wait to meet you! 🐾
If you are interested in Stevie Wonder, please complete the application at humanesocietyhoco.org.

Tails Up Tuesday. Today meet Kaylee. She is a very special little lady.
Kaylee is deaf and mostly blind. Her foster is a dog trainer. Kaylee is learning hand signals and doing well. Her foster is happy to teach the hand signals to Kaylee's adopter.
Kaylee is crate trained, potty trained, super sweet, good with big dogs, she doesn't understand to be gentle with the littles as her sight is impaired so she plays a bit too rough. She is working on that but I don't think she can overcome it. She knows hand signals for no/leave it, sit, and come. Her leash walking has improved but most of that is simple puppy exuberance. She knows how to find a bone rather than chewing on furniture now and she is learning settle on place. Other than needing hand signals instead of verbal commands you would never know she's deaf.
If you are interested in Kaylee, please complete the application at humanesocietyhoco.org.

Update!!!!! Scotti is going home! With the wonderful help of the neighborhood and our awesome trapper Don, he was corralled this morning late. It took an awesome village to keep us updated on where he was traveling. For this.. we are so very thankful! Plus… Don just purely rocks when finding and trapping missing animals. Thank yall again from the bottom of our hearts! Scotti… no more excitement please!

Scotti got away from his new adopters this morning on a walk. He is very, very frightened unfamiliar of the area and will run away if approached. He is also sight impaired. If he gets in your back yard, gate him in and call us immediately! 478-5506483.
He is in Cheshire subdivision and was last seen off Northside/ Cedar Ridge/ Perry. He was on the backside of the golf course. Again!!! Do not chase!!! Call us! We have a trap set at new residence and he did circle back there once.
He will not bite or is defensive. He just very scared!

Ms Wednesday was featured a few months ago, but here is an update.
Wednesday is just shy of her first birthday. She is a super sweet girl who is eager to please.
Wednesday loves attention. She has proven to be a very smart puppy. She knows sit and down, does well with recall, and walks well on a leash.
She is a very happy dog. She thrives on attention from volunteers. She gets along with other dogs. She has not been cat tested.
If you are interested in Wednesday, please complete the application at humanesocietyhoco.org.

Introducing Captain and Tenille. They are a sibling set who just turned 2 years old.
They were in our program as bottle babies and were adopted together. Recently they were returned when the living situation changed. They are very sweet, friendly, cats.
Tenille is a femal tabby. She loves people and being petted. At times, she has enough of her brother and would rather be alone.
Captain is a male tabby with lots of white on his fur. He is the more outgoing and affectionate cat. He will jump into your arms or chest if you are close enough to him. He demands attention from anyone he meets.
Captain loves the company of other cats. Tenille tolerates other cats as long as they respect her space. They are not a bonded pair even though they've never been apart. Tenille would actually prefer to be away from Captain.
If you are looking for a sweet, cuddly cat, either of these will exceed your expectations. They are hoping their next owner believes "Love Will Keep Us Together."
If you are interested in Captain or Tenille, please complete the application at humanesocietyhoco.org.

Today meet CJ. She is a tiny fashionista. CJ is 9 years old and weighs 10 pounds. She is very attached to her foster mom. She even greets her with cries of "mama" when she gets home each day.
CJ loves to dress up. She even has her own wardrobe. She wants to live the life of a lap dog. All she needs to be happy is one of her favorite outfits, and a lap to sit in.
CJ prefers women and may take a bit to warm up to new people. But, once she bonds with you, she wants to be with you all the time.
She is frightened by thunderstorms and loud noises. She has to wear a thunder shirt and feels safest in her foster mom's arms during a storm.
CJ is not a fan of the vet. For those familiar with the dreaded red dot or red flag on the patient folder, you know what this means. She also doesn't care for car rides, but will tolerate them.
CJ is good with small, nondominant dogs and is fine with cats. She does not care for children.
If you are interested in this fashionable older lady, please complete the application at humanesocietyhoco.org.
