There’s many takes on the definition of holistic grooming. I find your physical approach paired with the animals mental status, should stand out the most! With those two in mind, you also need to consider high quality, naturally derived and sourced products that will only allow them to flourish the way nature intended. That will include things such as shampoo/conditioner and or food. It’s certainly a lengthy learning curve!

Here are some helpful and natural approaches for tonight if your pets display signs of anxiety from fireworks ⬇️

Instead of prescription drugs from your vet that hold many risky side effects such as Prozac, try these if you have any on hand or can grab from the store today!

1) Create a safe space at home, target an area they usually favor

2) Use calming, organic essential oils such as lavender or chamomile. In a diffuser or rubbed into their fur. High quality CBD oil works wonders too!

3) Try compression wraps such as happy hoodies to drown out the sound or cotton balls in ears. This may take some getting used to

4) Keep them indoors with soothing music. Many pets go missing. If you do not have a solid recall established, leash time only when outside!

Tuesdays Tip of the day:

👩‍🍳 Veggie Feeding 👩‍🍳

Cruciferous vegetables include broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, bok choy and kale contain Sulforaphane. A powerful phytochemical which demonstrates anti-cancer properties in both human and animal studies.

These vegetables contain Glucoraphanin, a precursor to Sulforaphane (broccoli containing the highest quantity). The enzyme, Myrosinase is required to transform Glucoraphanin into Sulforaphane. This enzyme is activated when the vegetable is cut, bitten or chewed.

Dogs are designed for eating meat (ripping and shredding rather than biting and grinding food) therefore, they do not have a high capacity to initiate this release and conversion.

The longer the vegetable is left to sit after chopping, the more Sulforaphane is released!

Here’s a hack👇

Finely chop or grate vegetables and allow 40mins - 90mins before feeding. Pieces should be about 2cm in size. Stalks have double the amount of Sulforaphane, include them!

👉 To Prep:

Dogs lack salivary amylase, have little pancreatic amylase and no cellulase, all which assist in the breakdown of plant matter.

Purée for higher digestibility (food processor/blender with bone broth)

Cooking also helps to break down cellular walls and improve digestibility. Sulforaphane is relatively heat resistant and a normal process of cooking won’t destroy it.

Steaming and boiling reduces the goitrogens within cruciferous vegetables, anti-nutrients which disrupt thyroid hormone production. Boiling will reduce the goitrogens more than steaming, but will also have an impact on other nutrients within the vegetables. For a healthy dog fed in rotation with other leafy greens, goitrogens from cruciferous vegetables are not a concern. If your dog has a thyroid condition, consult a holistic vet. The most balanced way to cook these vegetables taking all of the above into account is lightly steaming.

The great news is that you can add this cooked broccoli, cauli, sprout or cabbage to your dogs next meal regardless of what it is. Organic is always best if it suits your budget.

10% of any feeding should be vegetable matter.

If you’re feeding kibble, 20% of your dogs kibble can be replaced with fresh foods - egg, meat, organs and vegetables.

📢 GROOMING PRICE ANNOUNCEMENT 📢

To my valued clients,

I strive to maintain affordable prices. I will be implementing a modest adjustment effective April 1, 2024. Thankfully, this minor adjustment will not reflect your current rate much. It is more for a new structured way of pricing rather than a package price to keep things simple 🤗

Pet sitting, walking, nutritional education and mini grooming services will NOT change in price.

This decision was made with the consideration of various factors, including the rising costs of equipment and product suppliers, maintenance services, fuel prices, annual certification classes, licensing renewal fees and other expenses small businesses face.

In addition to that, April 2-9/10 I will be on vacation and ‘out of office’. You may not receive a reply until April 11. TIA for your patience and understanding. Available appointments are now into the week of April 16 and May for full grooms only.

Rest assured, my commitment to serve our local community with the highest quality products, certifications, and impeccable knowledge of services will not shy away. I believe this adjustment is necessary to maintain the high standards you and your pets deserve!

Please understand, when you forget or cancel your appointment without giving enough notice, the opportunity to fill that appointment is minimal. Clients on the wait list also miss a chance at receiving services. Appointments are sent out 48 hours in advance. (It is easy to forget an appointment you booked months ago if not recorded 😉) Since the services are reserved for you personally for time and driving route in a given area, the cancellation fee applies if 24hr notice is not received. With this reminder, one card is now required to be kept on file. This will be collected and saved to your file at the time of your next scheduled appointment.

- Less than 24 hour notice will result in a charge equal to 50% of the reserved service amount.

- “No show” (pet is inaccessible/doors are locked since this is Housecall) will be charged 50% of the reserved service amount.

- Payment that has not been made by 8pm of the day you have been serviced, will result in an automatic charge of your total amount owed along with transaction fees. Receipts will be emailed to reflect any charges to your card.

These policies allow time to inform standby clients of any availability, keeping a full schedule and to plan accordingly for the following day, allowing better service to everyone. I will be attaching a link at the time of scheduling your next appointment to complete.
