Nov 27th, 2022. Doing it a bit different this year. Salvation Army has seen an abundance of presents for the younger age group through their various efforts, and identified a need for teenager gifts. We really enjoy discovering new inspiration and ideas. It was interesting to see how one of the greatest stables ever built outfits their facility. At Sweet Rose Farm we switched our bedding material to a rice straw and were surprised to see it also used at the Great Stables. A few of the stalls had a mix of large wood shavings and straw. Also of note were the small equine stalls measuring in at only about 6-7' wide and deep. The larger stalls were 12-13' square. Tack rooms seemed pretty standard. It was interesting to see some of the earliest books written about equine care in the museum. The writings make it clear this was an age where those in charge wanted a comprehensive review and new look at horsemanship and how to better develop the rider and horse connection. The Great Stables Domaine de Chantilly (officiel), an amazing structure built in the early 1700's that housed over 200 horses and 500 hounds. It is still in limited use while the majority of the spaces have been converted into a museum. It was interesting to see what materials they use for the round pens, indoor and outdoor arena's along with the variety of surfaces on the race-track. One wing is activity used for boarding a couple dozen horses, donkeys and miniature horses for the shows they perform in the domed arena. The kiddos were troopers, but the 20k+ steps we've been doing each day was starting to show. 🤣
