"Embark" DNA testing showed 255 Labrador Retriever genes to be CLEAR of disease in our Fonzie. (thanks to the donation of this test to Grace Farms from Elmwood Kennels (Sarah and Chris Rowland).
Does anyone know how hard it is to prove that your breeding stud dog has ZERO recessive genes for commonly know Labrador disease?
We did an outcross breeding to Sarah and Chris Rowlands' AKC Senior Hunter "NYX" (Elmwood Kennel) with 9 healthy pups resulting"
and we ALSO did a tight line breeding (somewhat controversial) to Fonzie's grand daughter resulting in 7 healthy puppies (Houston Texas, Bristol Bay Labradors.
Our breed "types" in our domestic animals were developed and genes "set" by judicious in breeding (breeding relatives together). This type of breeding with selection can result in very bad outcomes if BAD recessives of a disease are doubled up on (due to the gene being present in both parents). But when you have tools to determine sire and dam genetics....you can avoid most disasterous results...unless there is an unknown novel disease gene that serendipitously shows up.
As expected, the Elmwood Kennels pups show zero disease due to Embark testing ....AND we are happy to announce The grandfather X grand daughter (7 pups) at over 7 weeks old happily show zero problems as well Bristol Bay Labradors, Houston, TX

Grace Farms Labrador Retrievers has developed a line of Labrador Retrievers with an idea inspired by 2 purebred rescued from a back yard breeder . These dogs arrived in succession starting in 1973. The labrador Retriever genes for behavior, trainability, retrieve drive and companion were something Mary and John Fowler desired to be involved in keeping, although the two dogs were not exactly measuring up to AKC type. Mary attended conformation shows and obedience trials, then later field trial derbies, qualifying and open events. Together Mary and John decided to buy a well bred Lab to begin breeding themselves. By 1985 they had acquired Liberty's Grace Farms Freedom from Nancy Opie of Round Lake. Mary learned how to train to derby level with her first well bred Lab, but she wanted to go farther with this next one. Freedom was in the the top ten for Delaney points in one quarter in Novice obedience and had competed very well in club derby and gun dog single mark type events. She was bred young to a young Field Champion from Maryland. Success being that her get were super duper trainable dogs and the one the Fowler's kept earned her Master Hunter wuth Mary a new trainer's first Hunting Test dog. Freedom's 2nd litter was a line breeding ( 2nd cousin to 4th cousin ) of an Obedience Trial Dog Liberty's Char of the Hills UD. THOSE pups would eventually be the genetics Mary would continue with for the Grace Farms line. The third litter with a Chocolate Qualified All Age dog that Mary and John bought ( Grace Farms On the Warpath) produced a really really quick to title Master Hunter Grace FArms Mind Games CDX MH. Just a really really bunch of great working dos all started with Liberty Kennels. Now after 8 generations of selection...our present breeding dog Grace Farms Lightning Bolt Right Here MH with 17 other AKC titles) and a Conformation Certificate has been found to have no Canine recessive genes in 255 genes tested!!!

We have been breeding Labrador Retrievers since 1979. We did NOT breed the first few lines of Labradors we first had as pets. When we endeavored to start breeding, we sought out a very special dog to start our line. Our present line is descended fro Liberty’s Grace Farms Freedom CDX, JH (born 1-5-1985). Through living with, training/trialing in multiple dog sports, awareness of the AKC Standard, and keeping the current discoveries regarding Labrador genetics in mind we have selected from our original Labrador a unique type of Labrador which can be recognizable as the versatile Grace Farms line.
We announce the availability of our current black stud dog (from our 7th generation of breeding) “Fonzie” for stud service. He holds a Conformation Certificate (Labrador Retriever Club of America) Achiever Dog Certificate (AKC) and “A Dog for All Reasons Award” plus 13 AKC titles in several venues: Canine Good Citizen, Trick Dog Novice, Trick Dog Intermediate, Rally Novice, Rally Advanced, Rally Excellent, in the new Barn Hunt sport of finding rats in bales of straw he holds 5 titles, RATI, RATN, RATO, RATS, and RATM. In Hunting Retriever tests he holds 2 titles JH, and SH. He competed one leg of his Master Hunter in his one and only Master test.
Grace Farms Lightning Bolt Right Here CGC, TKI, RATM, RE, SH has impeccable health, (Excellent hips!) and has been tested for the major Labrador Retriever diseases and found to have none, nor does he carry any. He is proven for natural service, and carries yellow and black.
We also have at our kennel another stud that is RED, unrelated, and has 100% field dogs in his pedigree. His father is FC Money Talks II and his mother is the all time TOP Master Hunter producing dam, Ironweeds Boom Boom Butterfly MH. “RED” is available to folks who above all want to breed puppies with phenomenal vision and never ending energy for clients who wish to hunt their pups on both upland and water fowl every day of the hunting season, or a wicked fast agility dog. He also has had his genetics tested and does not carry any of the currently known Labrador diseases. (Excellent hips!) He carries yellow, black and chocolate. His yellow pups range from fox red to medium yellow.
Ironweed EZ Money at Grace Farms MH, RN has frozen straws stored at the Zoetis Cryobank which can be purchased, shipped to your veterinarian for insemination of your gal when the time is right.
