Exercise Tips for Dogs with Osteoarthritis
Our pets deserve all the love and care, especially as they age. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common condition in older dogs, but that doesn't mean they can't enjoy walks and playtime! Here are some tips for keeping your pet with OA active in a healthy way:
Low-impact exercise: Swap those long walks for shorter, more frequent strolls on soft surfaces like grass. Consider swimming, which is gentle on joints.
Warm-up and cool-down: Just like us, they need to prepare their bodies for exercise. A short walk before and gentle stretches afterward can help prevent stiffness.
Listen to your pup: Pay attention to your dog's body language. If they seem hesitant or in pain, take a break or end the activity.
Supportive gear: A harness can be more comfortable than a collar, and ramps can help navigate stairs or furniture.
Talk to us: We can recommend exercises specific to your dog's condition and pain level. In fact, assisting with age-related mobility
issues are our specialty.
Remember: Exercise is crucial for maintaining muscle mass, joint health, and overall well-being in dogs with OA. By making some adjustments, you can still have fun adventures with your furry friend!
