Graphic Warning; proceed at your own risk 🛑🙈
Our dental patient today had some unexpected friends departing from his rear end!!😱 During clean up of the front end of our patient, there was a party in the back! During the anesthetic procedure, we noticed a large amount of tapeworm segments migrating out of the patients behind. This species of Tapeworm is caused by the ingesting of an infected flea by the host (cat or dog). Adult tapeworms can reach up to around 11 inches long and break into segments that average about 1/8th of an inch, resembling grains of rice! We highly recommend running an annual fecal test to try and catch infections early, as well as keeping up with flea and tick medication to avoid your pet ingesting an infected flea! To discuss preventative options, call our office at 703-222-9682 for more info! 📞☺️

Fun Fact Friday:
We have a party of EAR MITES! 🎉
Ear mites cannot be seen by the human eye. We must perform a cytology on the microscope. They cause very itchy ears to our patients. Good news is they are not transferable to human friends. Typically they are found in young or older patients, and very common in Ferrets & Rabbits! Ear mites are often mistaken for just ear infections, but sometimes it’s both! 🐾
Call us today to schedule an appointment for any ear concerns at 703-222-9682.
