Our hearts are shattered as we said goodbye to precious Chocolate this morning. Chocolate came to us a few years ago as a senior and was one of our superstars in the Dog Bowl. Little did we know then, that our spunky little girl would turn 19 one day! Chocolate has lived with board member Karen who is devastated, and while it was such a heart wrenching decision to make, she knew that it was the right thing to do, as Chocolate’s little body was tired. Rest in peace sweet girl, you are going to be missed so, so much.
No words right now. Just completely heartbroken as we had to say goodbye to our precious, precious Tristan.
Can’t believe it’s been a year since we lost Bailey.
Muriel out for her afternoon potty break. Poor thing walks pretty slow, but considering she spent 17 years on a chain, it’s not surprising that she’s arthritic. We have to carry her back up the deck steps because she can’t do it on her own. And she’s a chunk!
Jose moves pretty darn good for an 18 year old! He is the sweetest dog who just wants to be wherever we are. Some may say that Jose is lucky to have found his way to us, but the reality is, we are the ones who are truly blessed to provide him with the best life possible in his golden years.
I wouldn’t say that Sally is spoiled or anything, but she insists on getting breakfast in bed! Actually dinner too, lol. We do whatever we can to accommodate her wishes!
Bear out in the dewy grass this morning showing off how well he walks! For those of you who are new and don’t know Bears story, Bear was born with severe luxating patellas that were never addressed when he was young. He basically dragged his back legs and he was passed around from home to home. The last family who had him contacted us to see if we could bring him into the rescue because the kids in the home were teasing him. Not long after he arrived, we found out he also had bad seizures. Once we got that under control with medication, we addressed his back legs. We were told that the left leg was the better of the two and the great Dr. Lazar performed surgery that enabled him to bare some weight on it, enabling him to walk, albeit a little crooked. The right leg is too twisted to repair, so surgery was not an option. Bear is a determined little guy who never gives up and we are so happy that he is a part of the Healing Hearts family!
Suzie is heading back to the vet this mor, this time for an 8 hour Cushings test. The test from the other day was inconclusive, but did indicate that she most likely has it. We just feel so bad for her! It’s just one thing after another, but no matter what, we will do what we need to do to make sure that we get some answers. Suzie is just the best dog ever and she deserves to spend her golden years feeling safe, happy and healthy!
We are so grateful to those who have donated, but we have a way to go. If you could donate any amount, it will help us tremendously!
No applications for this guy?? I mean who wouldn’t want an adorable 5 month Pomeranian (albeit a large Pom, lol) that gets along with dogs and people and loves children? Kip needs a home with a fenced in yard and one where he isn’t left alone all day. He gets very attached and just wants to be with you at all times. Kip will be getting neutered and up to date on his vaccines so he will be ready to go to his new home in just a few days! If you live in the DC Metro area and would like to consider adding Kip to your family, please fill out an application at hharg.rescuegroups.org.
Kip lives to play! The good thing is, he’s pretty submissive when the old dogs discipline him, lol.
