Paw Pals Pet Sitting Pet sitting, dog walking, pet care

Thank you, Paw Pals Pet Sitting, for shining a light on Frangipani, an adorable, tabby cat seeking a loving home. She is a young adult cat who enjoys affection, attention, and all the head scratches! Please note that Frangipani arrived at the shelter with an upper respiratory infection, which was treated by the Shelter's veterinary team. The vet believes Frangipani is experiencing a chronic upper respiratory infection (URI) that may resolve once she is out of the shelter. The veterinary team has cleared Frangipani for adoption despite her current congestion. Any potential adopter of Frangipani should be aware that the risk of infection to other cats is low; however, we have been keeping her separate as a precaution. Adopters may choose to pursue additional diagnostics or continue medical management if the issue persists.

Come in and meet beautiful Frangipani, the friendly cat! She is located at the Michael R. Frey Campus, on West Ox Road. Come by during open hours. She'd love to be part of your family.

Both shelter locations are open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12-5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays from 12-7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information on our adoption process, including requirements and fees, visit: www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalshelter/adopt

Many families enjoy having pets, but not all of them are cats and dogs. While as many as 68% of households own at least one pet, about 13% own exotics. Exotic pets run the gamut from birds and hedgehogs to axolotls, dart frogs, snakes, lizards, and more. Understanding how to take care of these pets....

Thank you to everyone who entered our raffle and donated to our pet supply drive. Thanks to your generosity, we collected toys, food, and treats that will be donated to Homeward Trails Animal Rescue a local nonprofit dedicated to finding loving homes for thousands of pets each year.

UPDATE: ADOPTED!

Thank you, Paw Pals Pet Sitting, for spotlighting a special dog (don’t let the name fool you 😉!) – Ms. Kitty !

A dog named after a cat, who would've thought it?!

Make no mistake, sweet Kitty, the 50lb young adult dog, is a canine and seeking a patient new family. Kitty came to the shelter as a stray and has gained confidence ever since. She seeks a gentle and loving family to help her overcome her shyness and fear. Kitty is aloof and anxious at first, but give her time to warm up to you.
Once Kitty becomes comfortable, she will seek out pets and attention from you while becoming a loose and wiggly girl! Kitty has shown fear when exposed to other dogs at the shelter. Because of this, potential adopters need to bring any canine family members to the shelter to meet Kitty and make sure she is a good fit for your pack. This gorgeous gal just needs a steady and caring home to thrive in. Could that be yours? Come meet and adopt Kitty the dog, today! Please email our main inbox at [email protected] to get more information on her and set up a time to visit her with our animal care lead, behaviorist or animal care manager.

Our latest monthly newsletter is now up! (And no, this isn't an April Fool's joke!) Check it out for all our regular monthly content and blogs, some nice updates, and to meet Princess - this month's sponsored Spotlight Pet with Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter!

Princess is a a lovely white and orange DSH mix. She's been at the shelter since the beginning of February, and the shelter staff think she's about 1 year and a half old. Thank you, Paw Pals Pet Sitting, for sponsoring Princess!

Princess (A0056911564, located in Fairfax) is a vision: a tiny, round, little pear-shaped cat with stunning yellow-green eyes and a heart-shaped freckle on her nose. She is incredibly curious, scratches her scratch pad when processing emotions (relatable), and is a delightful mix of confidence and caution, social yet independent, and friendly yet in no rush to prove it to you. If Princess were a person, she would avoid those situations entirely. The uncertainty about where faces go would send her over the edge. Given her discerning feelings about attention, Princess seeks a home without human children, where she is the only pet. She’s also an adorable little thing. She meows and purrs, arches her back when receiving pets and scratches, and will come when called… mostly. She enjoys attention—on her terms—because she has a good head on her shoulders and some wisdom about the world.

Misunderstood? Sometimes. Particular? Sure. Fun to be around? Absolutely. If you’re looking for a cat who is funny, smart, coy with her affection, and a little bit sassy but always worth it, Princess is ready to move in.

Interested in meeting Princess? Both shelter locations are open during the following days and hours: Open Hours: Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 12-5 p.m.; Thursdays and Fridays, 12-7 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Maddie is our sponsored pet this month! Let’s get her adopted! 🐾

Thank you, Paw Pals Pet Sitting for featuring Maddie as our Spotlight pet!

Maddie is a charming, comedic dog with a muscular frame and an adorable, squashed head. Her endearing quirks, like her constant lip-tongue-teeth mishaps, will keep you laughing. Maddie prefers to be the only pet in a home that appreciates her "big mama" energy and independence. While she pulls a bit on the leash, she often looks back and finds her rhythm. At home, she loves chewing on toys (puppy-proofing is recommended!) and is generally calm and confident. She’s mostly housetrained, rides like a pro during car rides, and is best suited for older kids or adults who understand her playful nature. Maddie enjoys squeaky toys and can entertain herself, but she loves being chased when she's in the mood.

Check out Maddie’s profile and learn how to take her on a five-day Adoption Audition at fairfaxcounty.gov/animalshelter/adopt.

Both shelter locations are open during the following days and hours: Open Hours: Tuesdays & Wednesdays: 12-5 p.m. Thursdays & Fridays: 12-7 p.m. Saturdays & Sundays: 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
