Thank you Paw Pals Pet Sitting for shining a light on Lola, Let’s introduce her!

Lola is an independent cat who’s been through a lot of changes recently and is still learning to feel safe in new spaces. While she currently prefers to observe her surroundings from a safe distance, her previous owner described her as assertive and colorful! She may not be a lap cat, but she'll approach you for pets once she's comfortable and then makes a graceful exit when she’s had her fill of love. She’s looking for a calm home where she can fully let her guard down. If you’re ready to adopt a sensitive and intelligent cat with so much potential to blossom, Lola might just be the perfect fit!

This pet is eligible for an Adoption Audition! What is an Adoption Audition? It’s a 14-day, no-strings-attached, trial adoption period. You can take this pet home to try it out! Interested? Come to the shelter any time during open hours and talk to one of the Shelter's Customer Care staff!

Lola is located at the Fairfax Campus of the Department of Animal Services, (4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax) Both locations are open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 12-5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 12-7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information on the adoption process, including requirements and fees, visit: www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalshelter/adopt

Thank you to all our Paw Pals friends and family who participated in voting for us back last spring. Thank you, Paw Pals Pet Sitting, for shining a light on Wako – this solid 81 pound handsome man looking for his forever home!
Say hi to Wako! Wako’s a neutered male with a heart of gold, though it might take a little patience to see it shine. He tends to be a bit shy around new folks and can be nervous in his kennel, but once he’s out and about, he warms up quickly and soaks up pets like a champ.
Because of his cautious nature, we recommend taking things slow, let him come to you, and you’ll be best buds in no time. Wako’s been described as friendly with most adults, a little unsure around small kids, and indifferent toward new animals. As always, we recommend meet-and-greets with all two-and four-legged canine family members, just to make sure Wako’s the perfect match for your crew.

Wako is located at the Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton). Hours of operation are Tuesdays and Wednesdays 12-5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 12-7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Thank you, Paw Pals Pet Sitting, for spotlighting Charming Booker!

Booker is 81 pounds of love, energy, and charm! He is a playful, goofy guy who absolutely lives for playtime, especially if it involves other dogs or his favorite thing in the world: balls! He's a social pup who thrives on interaction and will gladly keep the good times rolling as long as you're willing.

Recently, Booker underwent major surgery (TPLO) to repair his leg, and while he's healing like a champ, he still has a long road ahead before he can return to his fully active lifestyle. For now, he'll need a calm, supportive home that can help him through the rest of his recovery. That means gentle walks, physical therapy support (as recommended by your vet), and lots of love.

If you're looking for a loyal companion who's sweet, spirited, and just waiting to bounce back stronger than ever, Booker might be your guy. He's got the heart of an athlete and the soul of a best friend.

For more information on our adoption process, including requirements and fees, visit: www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalshelter/adopt or stop the Fairfax location (4500 West Ox Road) to meet Millie by one of the locations. Hours of Operation for both locations are Tuesdays and Wednesdays 12-5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 12-7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Thank you, Paw Pals Pet Sitting , for shining a light on Cloudy 7! Now let’s introduce you to the playful parakeet located at the Fairfax Campus!
Looking to add some feathery friends to your life? They’re ready to brighten your day with songs and cheer. Say hi to this playful parakeet! Cloudy will definitely brighten your day!

Parakeets are social little chatterboxes who thrive with a feathered friend or two by their side, so having a buddy is a must! These colorful cuties love to chirp, zip around their cage, and play with toys like swings, mirrors, and anything they can safely nibble. Their previous owner shared that “some will initiate contact by going close or jumping on your hand while being held.” With patience and routine, they may grow even more confident. Whether you’re a longtime parakeet fan or just

Thank you, Paw Pals Pet Sitting, for shining a light on Frangipani, an adorable, tabby cat seeking a loving home. She is a young adult cat who enjoys affection, attention, and all the head scratches! Please note that Frangipani arrived at the shelter with an upper respiratory infection, which was treated by the Shelter's veterinary team. The vet believes Frangipani is experiencing a chronic upper respiratory infection (URI) that may resolve once she is out of the shelter. The veterinary team has cleared Frangipani for adoption despite her current congestion. Any potential adopter of Frangipani should be aware that the risk of infection to other cats is low; however, we have been keeping her separate as a precaution. Adopters may choose to pursue additional diagnostics or continue medical management if the issue persists.

Come in and meet beautiful Frangipani, the friendly cat! She is located at the Michael R. Frey Campus, on West Ox Road. Come by during open hours. She'd love to be part of your family.

Both shelter locations are open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12-5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays from 12-7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information on our adoption process, including requirements and fees, visit: www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalshelter/adopt

UPDATE: ADOPTED!

Thank you, Paw Pals Pet Sitting, for spotlighting a special dog (don’t let the name fool you 😉!) – Ms. Kitty !

A dog named after a cat, who would've thought it?!

Make no mistake, sweet Kitty, the 50lb young adult dog, is a canine and seeking a patient new family. Kitty came to the shelter as a stray and has gained confidence ever since. She seeks a gentle and loving family to help her overcome her shyness and fear. Kitty is aloof and anxious at first, but give her time to warm up to you.
Once Kitty becomes comfortable, she will seek out pets and attention from you while becoming a loose and wiggly girl! Kitty has shown fear when exposed to other dogs at the shelter. Because of this, potential adopters need to bring any canine family members to the shelter to meet Kitty and make sure she is a good fit for your pack. This gorgeous gal just needs a steady and caring home to thrive in. Could that be yours? Come meet and adopt Kitty the dog, today! Please email our main inbox at [email protected] to get more information on her and set up a time to visit her with our animal care lead, behaviorist or animal care manager.
