Tuff gave me an interesting day yesterday. His first run for jackpot was so beautiful & even was a whole second faster then he did a month ago at our show! We even placed 4th in the 3D!

Then we sorta went downhill. For our second run that would’ve counted for Open & Adult, he refused to go in the arena. I finally got him there and then he ran me down the rail, refusing to turn to the left at first. We spent an hour working outside & he got a wet saddle pad but he just wouldn’t give. So he has some work to do to get rid of that attitude. Hopefully we will come back better.

In a very good note, he went in for open arena with 40 horses, no rear, no trying to run, & no kicking at horses! That was a very big step for him!

And yes, I’m posting the bs run bc even though I was so frustrated & he was so naughty, we still show the bad around here & everyone knows when training young horses there’s always some bad to go around. How you come out of it is the real test.

This is why we don’t only post the good here, we also post the bad! It’s always going to get worse before it gets better! Don’t be that barrel racer that is afraid to show their mistakes, be the barrel race that owns their mistakes, knows they aren’t perfect, & then those mistake around into WINS!💪

You have to be willing to lose in order to win.

I know this mentality is a hard one to grasp―or at least, it was for me.

In the early years of my training career, I was striving for perfection, not progress.

I never wanted to experience failure.

But wasn’t long before I figured out that failure is what allows me to experience success.

Without failure, there is no opportunity to learn.

You have to let yourself make mistakes in order to get better.

You have to let your horses make mistakes in order for them to learn.

Mistakes are lessons that pave the path to greatness.

Without those lessons, we stay in the same place we are today.

Give yourself the opportunity to fail, and remember that by doing so, you are setting yourself up for opportunities to learn, grow, and progress beyond your current circumstances.
