🌼 Big Announcement 🌼

I’ve been a little MIA on here this spring, which is normally when I start being the most active and booking clients for the year. That is because we have ✨exciting news✨that has prevented me from booking clients for Spring 2022.

🎉🎉 We are expecting a new little one to join the family very soon 🎉🎉

I am *tentatively* planning on starting things back up later this summer and that will be announced here if and when that happens.

As always, don’t hesitate to reach out with training questions or for assistance in locating another trainer near you!

‼️New Post‼️

I somehow managed to delete almost all of Juan’s photos off of my phone 🤦🏽‍♀️ without saving them to my computer. Luckily, I was able to retrieve several off of Instagram!

Juan was such a relaxed fellow (and 😍to look at) and accepted the saddle and rider super quickly. Unfortunately, our training was cut short due to some lameness issues, but his owner recently emailed me that it seems to have been resolved!

We’ve been busy getting things ❄️winterized❄️ for our cattle and horses, but I wanted to take a minute to thank all of this year’s clients for choosing Sandy Creek Horse Training. Each horse presented a unique challenge (some more than others 😂) and it was a pleasure to work with each one. We were fully booked all season long, so we apologize to those clients that we were not able to take on this year. We hope you’ll consider us again in the future!

The last horse in training (Rosie) went home a few weeks ago, so we are shutting things down for the year (An indoor arena is on my Christmas list 😜). Stay tuned over the next few months for 6+ remaining blog posts of this year’s horses.

We pray that you all have a blessed Thanksgiving 🦃 and Christmas 🎄

Sometimes, taking your horse to training may result in going a different direction then you originally planned. In Apache’s case, after working with her and discussing my impression of her, her owner came to the realization that she just wasn’t the right horse for him.

She is a great horse with a lot of potential, but she needed consist work that he wasn’t going to be able to give her. Rather than turn her into a pasture ornament, he decided to sell her.

Apache headed to her new home on Saturday, where she will be a lesson horse for advanced barrel racing and roping students. Best of luck to her and her new owner!

📸 of the week (a little late 😂):

1️⃣ Wrigley had several more successful rides and was nice and quiet under saddle. He went home on Friday to continue his training with his teen owner!

🐴 Apache continued to improve and become more responsive each ride. Focused primarily on building stamina in her right lead (she is very much a lefty!).

🐴 Rosie was not her usual self the first few days of the week. Normally she is very relaxed but something had her worked up and she was super distracted/spooky/snorting. Towards the end of the week, she was back to normal and she showed a lot of improvement on giving to the bit while backing up.

📸 of the week:

1️⃣ Rosey is getting back into the rhythm of regular work. She is starting to get the hang of neck reining from the standstill and walk.

2️⃣ Apache overcame her fear of some of the desensitizing tools this week and we started working on her fear of things with engines.

3️⃣ Wrigley had his 2nd ride today. He did so much better and I’m hoping this continues next week!

I’ve been a bit MIA the last couple weeks due to dealing with an unexpected family situation. I greatly appreciate the clients who were so flexible and understanding and picked up horses on short notice. I hope to be back to horse training soon!

Now to the updates:

🐴 Flicka was able to go home a couple weeks ago. The day before she was scheduled to head home, she had a bit of a scare in the trailer that (understandably) made her nervous to get back in. She had been doing so well, so this was very unfortunate. Despite this setback, her owner was able to load her the next day, BY HIMSELF! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

🐴 Highlife also headed home and his owners were very excited to have him home after 90 days of training. He accepted everything so well and was a pleasure to ride both in the arena and on the trail. He was super willing, and, although he had moments of s***k, he was a great little horse!

🐴 Juan had his first hoof trim! He was a bit nervous of the hoof stand but overall he did very well. Unfortunately, he had been having a few health and lameness issues so we decided to have him go home until the cause of the lameness and other issues are diagnosed and resolved.

🐴 Wrigley will be back soon to continue his training!
