Happy National Dog Day! Everyday here at The Grateful Dog
Sometimes it’s just too hard to choose, which is the cutest picture to post so I’m putting both. Jade (l) helped me welcome her brother, Bogey, to Transition Training a few days ago. They are the sweetest little pups and are amazing-fast learners! More cute pups to come! +
A big welcome for this beautiful Multigen Australian Labradoodle, Jade❤️ She is here for her foundation of training for an extended time. It will be so much fun to see her grow and learn over the next 7 weeks before she joins her family in S. Carolina. &train
Crate training takes patience & practice!! Teaching a puppy to jump in on their own and all good things will come to them, building time being in it creates a safe space. After just 3 weeks, these puppies have solid name recognition and can jump in on cue!
Ranger, Patton & Ozzy had a great Vet visit with Dr. Allie today. It was a great time for socialization and creating positive interactions while getting their vaccinations. reinforcement
These adorable puppies arrived for Transition Training last week! They are growing and learning. Nothing like summer fun here at The Grateful Dog!
Walter (Wally) is an adoptable Dog - Scottish Terrier searching for a forever family near Solon, OH. Use Petfinder to find adoptable pets in your area.
Auggie, 18 week Golden Retriever and Millie, 17 week old English Cream Labrador Retriever are here for Stay & Train to keep up on manners and structure. I have been working with these families in Private In Home sessions to get everyone set up for success!!!! &train
This is Callie, from Greystone Labradoodles Destination litter. Her sister, Clover and brother, Sawyer are thrilled to have her join them at Transition Training❤️
These 3 puppies are just the beginning of what is going to be a fun summer of Training and Socialization. Lets welcome 9 week old Clover and Sawyer and Ellie, a 12 week Labradoodle mix to Transition Training &train
It was more than time for a puppy play area refresh here at The Grateful Dog. This May we did a full rehab and added K9 turf with a great drainage system. A nice addition of steps for puppies to learn on and feel new surfaces and now I won’t fall all day on the slippery slope every winter!!!! Keep an eye out as new pitter patters of puppies arrive next week for Transition Training! training &train
Getting ready to put together 2 Licky bowls for Tipitina and Ripple for later on this beautiuful day. Great way to cool down on these hot summer days and well, it just makes them happy!!!!
It has been such a fun 3 weeks with DeeDee & Max here for Transition Training. Their families are excited to have them home in just a couple of days! Noodle is staying for an additional week. Adding a week of additional training due to travel or busy daily schedules is always an option to make sure you get the puppy of your dreams🐾
YES!!!
This is such an essential piece of raising an emotionally resilient puppy. We humans have a tendency to forget that these irresistible balls of fur actually contain a sentient being who is of a different species. In our adoration, we foist on them all sorts of human expectations and affection that are completely inconsistent with being canine.
An example: hugging. Our species expresses affection by wrapping our arms around each other and, if especially happy, squeezing to show the level of our glee.
This is not what canines do.
For a canine, hugging is a threatening experience, as it’s not natural for them to be restrained. When we hug a puppy, we are often triggering alert bells in them, resulting in the conclusion, “I’m not safe.”
Since this is obviously not what we want to instill in our puppies, we simply must understand how the canine brain works, and how, in some ways, it is dramatically different than our own.
My favorite chapter in Puppy Brain falls right in the middle of the book. Chapter 15. “First, Train the Humans: Changing How We Think About Dogs.” It is filled with principles that help us understand the world through our dog’s eyes.
A lot of people have asked me whether the book contains content relevant for older dogs and this chapter is a great example of why I resoundingly say “yes!” It explores concepts like a dog’s need for rest (memory consolidation) and personalized stimulation (like a food trail). It will change the way you interact with your dog and help you develop a mutual, trusting, soul-satisfying relationship together.
If you haven’t pre-ordered, the link is in my bio. Can’t wait for all of you to get your copy of Puppy Brain when it ships on April 30th!

Huntley, Gigi, Chloe & Magoo 9 week old Multigenerational Australian Labradoodles are here and ready to start out with my foundation of training program. +
A stunning day for training puppies outside! Plenty of chances to desensitize them today - trees coming down, garbage trucks driving by, and birds belting out tunes up above. All fantastic experiences to create fearless furballs! And lucky Riley & Livie had mentors like Ripple and Tipitina on hand!
What a fun group of Doods here for training. Livie, Riley, Banjo & Gigi are loving this sunny, chilly day! + &train

A fun training session with Naia(15 weeks) & Sophie(9.5 weeks) #deerpineslabradoodles #riverbendlabradoodles #multigenerationalaustralianlabradoodles #transitiontraining #clickertrainer
Today is Mocha’s last day at Transition Training. He is such a great puppy from Riverbend Labradoodles Candy/Banner. His Mom is over the moon excited and ready for him to now transition into his furever home and ready to move forward with the foundation of behavior he received here. A big part of training a puppy/dog is offering differents aspects of enrichment. Mocha is having his lunch today for a Snuffle Mat. A great way to slow down a fast eater and great brain stimulation. Be a great boy Mocha, we will miss you💙
Hello Spring! Sun and fun times ahead #thegratefuldogllc #transitiontraining #stay&train #clickertrainer
I can’t stress enough to my clients how important socialization is from a young age. When a pup is socialized with other dogs & people it creates a sense of confidence versus being fearful which leads to all kinds of behavioral issues. Ruby and Finn are having a blast!!
Also plenty of indoor playtime! This is a great example of how dogs can teach each other Bite Inhibition. Gracie let’s Ripple know that he was playing a little hard with his mouth.
Francie is getting ready to go home from Transition Training in just a few days. She has learned has blossomed in growth physically and mentally during her 3 weeks here. She has a fabulous recall/touch cue with great distance. Her favorite part is the reward at the end!! #thegratefuldogllc #transitiontraining #clickertrainer #positivereinforcement #forcefree
Bogey is almost done with her second week of Transition Training and doing so wonderful. Here she is learning with her buddy, Tipitina. #thegratefuldogllc #deerpineslabradoodles #transitiontraining #wala #australianlabradoodle #ClickerTraining
Tipitina, the older she gets the more patient she gets. She is a role model to puppies & huge part of my Transition Training program. ❤️
Nothing quite as fun as a good play session between Frenchie brothers. Love my nephew dogs #bruno #kevinmcallister #frenchbulldogsofinstagram #thegratefuldogllc
It’s not very Springy today but welcoming a sweet Spring puppy, Walter (Wallie) to Transition Training. #transitiontraining #thegratefuldogllc #multigenerationalaustralianlabradoodle #greystonelabradoodles
