Jamie Himes 's Draco rose to the challenge of his first rated dressage show! He rode the USEF 4 Year Old test for the first time and other then a little bout of stubbornness going down centerline he was a Rockstar! 🀩 we earned a 68% πŸ”₯

He impresses me more and more with his natural balance and confidence in his movements. He is starting to find his bigger trot and motor behind... when he does πŸ₯³ watch out!

Thank you Northern Ohio Dressage Association for putting on a great show and especially to all of the volunteers who make the show run!

London and I made a return to the Rated Show Ring for the 2025 Northern Ohio Dressage Association Show! Saturday had a 2 hour storm delay with just enough of a window to get qualified rides in before the next wave came in. He has never been a fan of puddles or changes of footing, so we had a lot of trust testing to get through it. He showed up and let me have a great ride (considering the entire long side was under water 😬) I have never felt him have that much trust in me, it took a lot to hold back happy tears when we did our final salute. ❀️

I'm so proud of him, he turned 10 this year and I said it was time to step it up. And did he ever! Training is hard, especially these very internalizing sensitive ones... he's taught me patience and to be humble, he will always be stronger then me so he truly must trust me always in order to do his job. I'm on his timeline... he's made sure I know that's the only way we continue lol but I'm proud of where we started vs where we are headed.

This ride is from our dryer ride on Sunday, but the wet one is posted as well on YouTube. Sundays ride earned us a 67% and a trip to Regionals!

Special thank you to all those that help me keep this boy happy, mentally, physically, and emotionally... he's a tough cookie to crack!

Paz went to a horse show! His mom Morgan Blanyer did an amazing job giving him the confidence and guidance he needed in order to get around the arena. Every time we get to take him somewhere he grows up a little more!

Thank you Northern Ohio Dressage Association for a great show today! It was the perfect ending to a stressful, no power week!!

08/11/2024

Draco out did himself for his second ever show! This 4 year old continues to amaze me, he was def at empty in his mental tank but he preformed physically for me.

It's so difficult with these young horses to know how long of warm up they are going to need. The last show was 90Β° and man was he spicy, today was a beautiful 75Β° and we could have been fine with a 5 minute warm up. Just never know

Thank you Northern Ohio Dressage Association for putting on a wonderful showing opportunity for us!

Thank you to owner Jamie Himes for trusting me to bring along her talented boy! And for saving my butt in the trailer 😬

This is what part of a "Village" looks like... I am so thankful to have the best in their fields working on my horses. We all have different personalities and specialities that somehow when you find the right combination we make for a stellar team!

Couldn't do it without any of our village!

Royal is really getting the hang of pushing to the contact while collecting and moving more forward! It's been 6 months and I feel like we've come so far πŸ₯³ his momma couldn't love him more ❀️

Draco took a new big arena in great strides and even pieced together the 4 year old test!

Jamie Himes saw great things in him as a lanky awkward yearling and man was she right!! He's been a dream to work with, and we are just getting started πŸ˜„

I don't realize how big and matured he is until I see a photo like this!

Part of a training ride with Royal today! I'm working on having him sit more on his hind leg through my seat and not having to pull hense shorten his neck. He's starting to become stronger! As he learns to sit more and continue activity in his hind leg through coming back, his lengthen trots will become bigger!

Well here it is... still has the dirt caked into the vent where I landed. Although my shoulder took the brunt of the hit my head still made contact, I am forever grateful for the technology that goes into these. I walked away sore as hell but I'm thankful I'm just sore.

Aiken, SC was an incredible opportunity for London and I. We trained with Therese Evans for 2 whole weeks and I gained so much knowledge! Even just sitting and watching was educational. I am forever thankful I had the opportunity and hopefully will go back next year!

I am so excited for Amy and the partnership they are creating 😍

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone far and wide! Thank you to everyone that supported and stuck through the hard times this year with us, I truly believe we are for the better and have even better coming our way!
Seriously though, I can't thank everyone involved with DB Sport Horses and AA & JR DB Sport Horses LLC enough for the continued support. This program wouldn't be here without you all ❀
I feel like I say it every year but it seems to come true... 2024 will be the best yet!

This is a reminder of why I do what I do. A young adult came into my program with low confidence in just about everything... I knew I could teach her how to gain trust in herself through the horses. We even had a whole month of just ground work, she wasn't allowed to ride until she could walk, trot, and canter a horse while switching directions on the end of a line. AND she had to show me she was in charge, not the horse...
She shows up to every lesson willing to push herself and that's all I could ask for. She has become so bonded with Kodak, it is heartwarming to see their relationship grow. I know I have caused some tears, but I will never push a client past what I know what they can handle.
Thank you to all of my students who have shown up and trusted me and the horses to make yourselves better. It isnt always sunshine and rainbows... but man is it worth it!

We had a good mixture of western and classical dressage. The common theme of lessons was inside leg to outside rein, and transitions. I always love meeting new people and the horses are wonderful❀

Kodakhrome and I showing at Lake Erie College School of Equine Studies this past weekend doing the I1 test. We took a break from the test last year to complete with our 4th freestyle so this was the first time in 2 years at this level! He made me so proud and really stepped up to the challenge and we were rewarded with mid 60s which is huge for him!

I love this horse and his try, the judge even commented he "gave his heart" ❀ 20 years old really looks good on him🀩

Kodakhrome appreciation post! It takes a special horse to lay down a beautiful FEI test, let alone at age 20. What makes this extra meaningful is that Kodak is one of our wonderful schoolmasters. He can teach walk-trot beginners one day, and then whip out a line of two-tempis the next. Our favorite big guy gave it his all this weekend, and it showed. Well done, Kodak and Danielle!

I love this exercise to warm up Kodak's hips and shoulders! I start as a turn on the forehand and seamlessly transition into turn on the haunches. I go between the two movements to open hips and check in on yielding to the outside rein and also inside leg.

Kodak tends to hold a decent amount of tension in his shoulders so any type of lateral movement helps him stretch out. He also has a narrow base in his hind leg so any hip opening I can do is beneficial for him.

Here's your friendly reminder to change your stirrup sides every once in a while! Since we typically always get in the saddle from the left side that stirrup leather tends to get stretched faster. Although it doesn't look like a huge difference, you can certainly feel the difference!

What a day! We had 6 horses and a total of 12 tests to go through today at the Chagrin Valley Farms Dressage Schooling show!

We had two Jr riders compete in their first ever dressage show with Rosiemai! There were valuable lessons like you can never stop actively riding the pony or she may just exit the ring at A πŸ˜‚ both girls worked so hard and came away with big smiles

Anna and Lacey had some "expressive" moments but in the end completed two lovely tests. Lacey impresses me everytime I see her in action. Anna was able to really push her in moments and it paid off. Now its Connie's turn next time!!

Jamie and Captain debuted in Second Level. She learned how to ride her horse even when he is being naughty and although we have plenty to work on and clean up she was able to navigate him through each test. I'm so proud of her for pushing herself out of her comfort zone and going for it!

Courtney and Kinney are the new kids on the block to DB Sport Horses as we have only been working together for a little while. Kinney overcame colic surgery and this was his first show back in a very long time. They both had the normal horse show jitters but I am so proud of them both! We have recently been working on Courtney's ability to sit deep into the saddle and ride from her seat, this was proven effective today as Kinney thought all canter should be extended canter πŸ˜„ they ended with great rides and I can't wait to see the progess they make until the next show

Amy and Kodak showed first level together for the first time in two years! After last year with Finals I decided it was her turn to ride down the centerline with the fancy boy. He has proven to be a great school master, as he gives nothing away for free... Amy's first test was true to having two years away from the ring and Kodak decided the blue muck tub in the corner (which we have one in our own arena) was the enemy and M was a no go haha. But she rallied and laid down a lovely First Level test 3.

Last but certainly not least, Mady brought her OTTB mare Alaya along to experience the show atmosphere for the first time. She took the opportunity to ride and familiarize herself with the show ring during the lunch break. Needless to say, Alaya was all professional and no play. We will definitely be showing next time!

To say I'm proud is an understatement. It was heartwarming seeing all of these people come together for the love of their horses and the love of being better for their horses. I'm such a proud trainer! I have the BEST people lifting me up professionally and personally and I am so blessed to have you all.

And of course the absolute best groom Elizabeth Ortner who had her own first of one of her JR riders competing for the first time. We couldn't do it without her!
Can't miss the best shadow and support in my life, my husband, Nick, always being there with what ever I or my riders may need ❀
