We had a great outing this weekend for the Northern Ohio Dressage Association schooling show with 5 horses!

Morgan Tate showed great dedication showing back to back weekends giving Paz as much show experience as possible. He is really figuring out how to be a good horse show boy and is starting to have more good moments then Paz moments 😂 she does amazing with him and I couldn't be more proud of how far they've come this season.

Allison Morris showed Kodak at second 3 very well improving on her lateral movements we've been working so hard with. Kodak loves being in the spot light and actually gave her his medium gaits without her begging and pleading 😂 I love seeing all the pieces come together and the confidence grow in Allison riding the more challenges tests!

Elizabeth Ortner rode her own Ziggy through Training 1. He still has baby moments that keep Betsy on her toes but she is figuring out how to really get him through sticky moments with ease.

Betsy had 4 students of her own to coach through tests! All did great jobs and if you didn't know it you'd think they were seasoned veterans. I am so proud of the program she has built and the kids that are being brought along to fill the adult amatures shoes!

🚨 INSTRUCTOR REALITY CHECK 🚨
Things They Don't Tell You About Teaching Riding:

🎓 "If you can ride, you can teach"
REALITY: Being a good rider ≠ being a good teacher. Pedagogy, psychology, and communication skills matter more than your last show ribbon.

📱 "Students will respect your time"
REALITY: You'll get calls at 10 PM asking about tomorrow's lesson and texts asking if "light rain" means lessons are cancelled.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 "Parents will appreciate your expertise"
REALITY: Dr. Google and YouTube make everyone an expert. You'll defend basic safety protocols to parents who "know better."

☀️ "Work outside in beautiful weather"
REALITY: You'll teach in 100°F heat, freezing rain, and hurricane-force winds.

💔 "Share your passion with others"
REALITY: You'll love seeing breakthroughs but watching students quit due to money, fear, or teenage drama will break your heart repeatedly.

🏠 "Great work-life balance"
REALITY: Weekends and holidays are your busiest times. Date nights happen on Mondays (if you're lucky).

BUT HERE'S THE TRUTH:
Despite all this, when a scared kid gets their first canter or an adult conquers their fear... when you see that spark in someone's eyes as they connect with their horse...

You remember why you chose this impossible, beautiful, crazy career.
The hard parts make the magic moments even more precious.

This is the first of a few photos/videos I will make from this past weekends show at Northern Ohio Dressage Association !

This was Londons first ever freestyle and he really made me proud 🤩 we've been working so hard on connection without tightness and power without anxiety, and I think we achieved that!

Thank you Sandra Beaulieu - The Creative Equestrian for the AWESOME music, it turned out better then I could have hoped for 🎵🎸

Emily Gill helped me put together the challenging but fun choreography! 💃

Thank you to my whole team of clients who support me and have my back, my mother Edna Blymier who gave up her mother's day weekend to be with me, Nick Nemastil who never misses a ride, and of course Elizabeth Ortner for making the horses look and feel their absolute best!

Thank you to Shawn Nelson for keeping the horses sound! DeeDee Duffy for keeping them limber! Gwen Samuels for keeping them grounded! And of course the vets that keep them healthy!

London has been such a tough horse to gain his trust but I think I've finally broken through all of his past that had shut him down. I really feel like we have a true partnership after all of these years 🥰 this year we are having fun!

Kodakhrome came out of retirement to show Brenda Smith how to be a dressage queen 🤩

I think he's loving the attention and not having to do a long FEI test😂 22 years old is treating Kodak pretty well🥰

It really warms my heart to see others be able to enjoy him at a show. Next weekend he will be piloted around in second level at the Noda schooling show!

Thank you Northern Ohio Dressage Association for putting on such a great show!

We’d like to say a big thank you to Jacqueline and Joker from Bits of Balance LLC ! They came out yesterday for a clinic with both our junior and adult riders. We took advantage of a warm room inside and spent the day learning about rider position and biomechanics. We learned so much!

Jacqueline did a great job breaking down the foundation of our riding position and balance, and then working with each rider on Joker to make adjustments to our own positioning in the saddle. Seemingly tiny tweaks to leg, hip, and shoulder positions made a huge difference on Joker, and indicated just how much our horses compensate for us on a daily basis.

We can’t wait to have Jacqueline and Joker back again soon for more biomechanics work! It is sure to be an exciting few weeks transitioning our homework and practice with Joker to the “real world” on our own horses.

For Christmas this year our clients got together and we were able to get matching coolers for all of the sizes in our herd! The horses definitely appreciate feeling warmth in these cold days and we will bring them to shows to stay stylish and warm 😎
