🦷 Halfway through Dental Month Already! 🦷

If you have been in within the last couple of weeks you have probably seen these jars up at the receptionist desk. In these jars are the teeth that our doctors have had to remove over the past couple of months due to dental disease (these teeth have been cleaned and whitened which is why they "look" healthy, but really are diseased). It's a great way to visualize tooth anatomy in both our canine and feline friends. The number of roots on a tooth vary between 1, 2 or 3 roots depending on the type.

Next time you stop in 📍 feel free to take a look at these! If you'd like to schedule a dental cleaning or an exam to see if a dental cleaning is warranted, let Ally or Bri know while you're in and we'll get you on the schedule 📆

🚨 Important Microchip Update 🚨 - we have been receiving lots of questions regarding this and wanted to update our clients accordingly

We want to inform our pet parents that Save This Life, a pet microchip company, has shut down. If your pet was microchipped through our clinic, you DON'T need to worry—we do NOT use Save This Life microchips. Our clinic uses HomeAgain Microchips.

However, if your pet was microchipped elsewhere, we recommend checking your pet’s microchip registration to ensure it is still active and properly linked to your contact information.

🔍 Check your pet’s microchip status here: https://www.aaha.org/for-veterinary-professionals/microchip-search/

If your pet’s microchip was registered with Save This Life, you can re-register it with a new company to ensure your information is still accessible in case your pet ever gets lost. Keeping your pet’s microchip details up to date is crucial for their safety! If you have any questions, feel free to call us 440-708-2828. 🐾💙 If you need help locating your pets microchip number we may be able to pull it from your pets medical records or you can bring them in the have them scanned.

After scanning lost pet, enter the number into the microchip registry tool to search for the manufacturer of the chip.

🐾 Before & After: Doggie Dental Cleaning 🐾

Check out this amazing transformation after a dental cleaning! 🐶✨

The “before” photo shows the buildup of tartar and plaque, which can lead to painful infections and serious dental issues if not addressed. After a thorough cleaning, the “after” picture shows a fresh, healthy smile!

In this case, we did have to extract a couple of infected teeth that had exposed roots to ensure the health and safety of our patient. Removing damaged teeth helps prevent further pain and infection. Our pets truly appreciate when we take care of their oral health and contrary to popular belief, pets do not mind if they are missing teeth - nor does it affect their ability to eat normally!

Regular dental care is essential for your pet's overall health and well-being! If it's time for your furry friend’s dental cleaning, give us a call! 🦷❤️

🦷 Cat Oral Health: More Than Just a Pretty Smile! 🦷

When it comes to your cat’s health, their teeth deserve just as much attention as their overall wellness. Unfortunately, dental disease is incredibly common in cats and can often go unnoticed until it becomes more serious. 😿💔

Here are some essential tips for keeping your cat’s mouth healthy:

😺 Dental Diets: Specially formulated dental diets are designed to help reduce plaque and tartar buildup. These diets are a great way to support your cat’s oral health alongside brushing.

😸 Soft Tissue & Gum Health: Healthy gums are key! If your cat’s gums appear red, swollen, or bleed when touched, they may be dealing with gingivitis or periodontal disease. Keeping up with at-home care and professional dental cleanings can help prevent this.

😻 Chew Toys & Treats: While cats don’t chew quite as much as dogs, there are still great options for dental chews and treats designed for felines. These can help reduce plaque buildup and keep their teeth strong and clean. Check out https://vohc.org/accepted-products/ for more information on approved products.

LASTLY! Watch for Warning Signs: Cats are excellent at hiding pain, but there are still clues to look for! If your cat is showing signs like drooling, difficulty eating, pawing at their mouth, or bad breath, it could be time to check in with us for a dental cleaning.

Remember, keeping your cat's teeth healthy helps them live a longer, more comfortable life! 🐾 If you think your cat may need a dental cleaning or if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help! 🐱💙

🏥 From Burst to Better: How Laser Therapy is Helping Ollie Heal 🏥

We're excited to share the amazing progress of Ollie who's been receiving laser therapy for the past 2 weeks after a cyst burst on their back. Take a look at these healing progression photos below! Our apologies we missed out on getting a treatment 2 photo op 😔

Laser therapy, specifically MLS (Multiwave Locked System) lasers, are an incredibly effective treatment for wound healing in pets. MLS lasers work by using light energy to pe*****te deep into the tissue, stimulating cells to promote healing, reduce pain, and decrease inflammation. This helps accelerate tissue repair by improving circulation and oxygen flow to the area, allowing the body to heal naturally.

Over the past 2 weeks, this patient's wound has been healing beautifully, and we are thrilled with the results! With ongoing laser therapy, we expect continued improvement, helping to ensure a full recovery.

If your pet is suffering from an injury, inflammation, or chronic pain, ask us about MLS laser therapy and how it could help them feel better faster! 🐶✨

🎾🚗🐾 When you think you're going to the toy store, but your parents had other plans. 🐾🚗 🎾

That face when you realize your humans had other "healthier" intentions than a new squeaky toy or tennis ball... and now you're stuck in the waiting room trying to figure out how to "accidentally" escape. 😩🐕

Don’t worry, buddy. We promise you’ll get a treat after—just not the one you had in mind. 🍖😜

🦷 February is Pet Dental Month: The Importance of Full-Mouth Dental Radiographs! 🐾

When it comes to your pet’s dental health, brushing and regular check-ups are essential—but did you know that hidden dental issues may be lurking below the gum line? That's where full-mouth dental radiographs (X-rays) come in. 📸

While a visual exam can reveal obvious signs of gum disease or broken teeth, radiographs allow us to see what’s happening beneath the surface—including bone loss in the jaw, abscesses, and even infected tooth roots that can't be detected by just looking in the mouth.

These hidden problems can cause significant pain, discomfort, and even tooth & bone loss if left untreated. Radiographs give us a detailed view of the entire mouth, helping us identify issues early and ensure your pet gets the best care possible. In these photos you can see almost complete breakdown of these tooth roots and the beginning of bone loss in the jaw bone. All of these teeth would need to be removed to stop the spread of bacteria and infection further in the mouth and even organs, such as the heart. Yes! Severe oral infections can have bad effects on the heart ❤️‍🩹

Why are they so important?

Bone loss: Radiographs show bone deterioration in the jaw that can occur with periodontal disease.

Invisible infection: Infections in the tooth roots or abscesses can’t always be seen, but X-rays reveal them.

Preventing future problems: Catching hidden issues early means better outcomes and a healthier smile for your pet! If you notice bad breath, difficulty eating, or swelling around the mouth, it may be time to ask your vet about a dental cleaning 🪥

Chagrin Animal Clinic

The Chagrin Animal Clinic has been serving the Chagrin Valley area since 1987.

The clinic was born on March 1, 1987, when Dr. Eldridge purchased the practice of retiring veterinarian, Don Weibel. The practice became the Chagrin Animal Clinic and continued to function in the original building on Chagrin Road for twenty years.

In August, 2007, the clinic was moved into a new state of the art building at 16680 West Park Circle Drive in Chagrin Falls (Bainbridge).
