Jerry Lee ain’t setting any speed records but he knows what to do. He had one restart and is starting to untuck that tail. He did hit all his turns. A couple more weeks and he’s gonna be a bad ass.
Not Dog Training but a very big day for my oldest granddaughter and myself
Full immersion Baptism
Copper
Short one for Copper today. He missed both hard 90s then did a quick self correct. His first obstacle was a breeze. Right over the big log with no hesitation. I wish he’d jump in the back of my truck like that.
Tone breaking
This is how we start to teach a dog to come to tone. Soon Honey can be 900 yards away, then be called back simply by touching a button. Every dog should be taught this.
The treat bag works, but you’ll notice it’s harder to get the dog to wander off. They follow the treats. lol.
Honey
As many of you know, I recently acquired HONEY.
This is the track Copper ran yesterday, now 24 hrs old. Honey had a few hiccups but nothing Rocky can’t fix. All in all she did pretty good. The first hiccup was where Copper made a bunch of circles, took a poop, and was restarted.
I’m just throwing this out there; Honey has great potential and probably will be for sale this September or October after her extensive training program is complete. I have not received her papers yet but the previous owner assures me he has them and will send them as soon as he finds them.
I have her on a diet, she is 4 years old, and will be tone broke and ready for off lead tracking. I do not have a price on my mind yet.
Then again she might be my lead dog next year!!!
Copper
He’s getting better by the day. He had one rough spot where he stopped, made some circles, pooped, then Rocky had to restart him. He finished strong
Jerry Lee Day 1
This is how we test and/or start every dog. With a short liver drag. Since he did so good, tomorrow it’ll be 3 times as long with a turn or two.
Copper getting a little extra lov’n from Rocky.
Copper.
Day 2 liver drag with a turn.
Copper
The rain caught us this morning. We laid a track for Azula to run tomorrow and got to put Copper on his very first liver drag on Day 1 of training. He’s showing promise so far.
Azula
Azula is doing absolutely fantastic. She’s definitely gonna be putting deer on the tailgate this winter.
We took a trip to the Dog Park this morning. Here’s a lap around the walking trail with Blue, Gumbo, Azula and Maverick
Azula
Azula on a 24 hr aged track. At first she was distracted by Mavericks barking, In the middle of the video a rabbit bolts out of the briars and Azula gave chase. Rocky quickly gave a tone when Azula ignored it she got an E-Correction on Low-2…and returned immediately. Azula is here for tone training as well as tracking. She responded fairly good and fast. A handler has to read his dog when she starts crittering and respond accordingly in a fast manner. It took Azula a minute to calm down and quit worrying about the rabbit. She did fairly good tracking and self correcting.
It’s often hard to identify front and rear legs. I accidentally grabbed 2 rear legs from this set. Maybe an ounce of blood and just over 200 yards.
Azula
Azula is a bad ass tracker with a ton of natural ability
She’s correcting herself and moving fast.
GumboF
Gumbo
Track laid with Wasgau Scent shoes only. (No blood.
Gumbo has a high prey drive and strong desire to get to the end of the track.
His natural ability is very strong. I think the Good Lord blessed me with a good one.
Gumbo
Get the deer Gumbo.
Gumbo
This is Gumbos 3rd or 4th track. He’s gonna be a good one.
Putting new deer feet in the scent shoes for Rocky
The morning ritual.
Lucy
Lucy
Rocky has Lucy on a 10’ lead today to be able to drop it and let her track off lead. The smaller lead causes less resistance when the dog drags it. Lucy is tone broke and needed one correction when she got off the track and headed for the drainage ditch. We can’t let dogs in this water due to the alligators. Lucy is doing a lot better.
