SEK, or Smith Elliott Kearns, spent a morning helping us wash all the winter blankets, clean out the carriage house, and reorganize and clean all the toys stored in there. They were AWESOME and we are so grateful for their time and effort!

On the eleventh day of Christmas, FCTRC gave to me:

Friends from across the rainbow bridge

Chief 🌈
Age: 37
Breed: Appaloosa
Owner: Donated to FCTRC
Joined the Herd: 2004-5/10/2023
Job: Retired from therapeutic lessons, groundwork, volunteer trainings, program ambassador
Hobbies: Soliciting cookies from the gator, avoiding other horses, giving the “grumpy old man” look

Chief gave a record 19 years of service to our program and everyone who came through our barn doors knew Chief. While he was up there in age, he had no problem running to his stall in the mornings when the weather was bad or breakfast was late. While he was perfect in every way, he made sure those who used him “worked for it”.

Wish 🌈
Age: 27
Breed: Quarter Pony
Owner: Leased to FCTRC by Bethany Doppel
Joined the Herd: 09/2022-3/13/2023
Job: Therapeutic Riding, groundwork, volunteer training
Hobbies: Hiding in the woods in his field, taking Raven for rides, drinking from puddles

Wish may not have been with the program long but he had a huge impact. He was a clone of Marvin from his looks to his personality and toted around any rider safely. He was the perfect horse for anyone to learn on with just enough personality to keep everyone entertained. He was so perfect, he joined the program after one of the shortest trials! When not in lessons, he enjoyed hiding in the field or staying close to his ”old man friend” Chief.

Share your favorite memories of them below!

On the tenth day of Christmas, FCTRC gave to me:

A bunch of kitties!
Disco & Zora
Age: 9
Job: Chasing mice and greeting visitors
Disco’s Hobbies: Being the first to breakfast, teaching the kittens to be a barn cat, napping
Zora’s Hobbies: Sneaking into the hay barn, soliciting gentle pets

These look alikes joined our barn family with their brother Scout. While they’re more elusive, they can often be found snoozing in the hay room or prowling around the fields

Rocket & Raven
Age: 1 1/2
Job: Aprentices to Disco and Zora, lap warmers
Rocket’s Hobbies: Fishing, chasing geese, hiding in the tack room
Raven’s Hobbies: Following Disco, walking the ceiling beam, trying to ride the horses

These little ones joined the TRC as tiny kittens and started learning the ways of being barn cats from a young age with the guidance of Zora and Disco. They are our most personable cats and will often sneak into the arena to help the instructor, watch from on the wall at A, or keep parents laps warm!

Donate wet and dry food to our smallest barn mates today!

Volunteer opportunities are available to help with fundraising, horse grooming, maintenance, and the therapeutic riding and carriage driving lessons.
