Shelter's Senior Sweethearts

Shelter's Senior Sweethearts Senior dogs deserve nothing but love and comfort in their last few years, but unfortunately, that is not the reality for all.

This page helps to spotlight some of Georgia's senior dogs in shelters/rescues that are in need of their forever homes.

Dear Community,

We urgently need your help. We do not have space for the animals coming in our doors each day and homes are desperately needed. Right now we're having an adoption event to help the growing number of animals in our care find homes. All dog adoptions are completely free and our team is ready and waiting to help you find your perfect match. Please help Atlanta's animals by adopting a dog today. Visit Fulton County Animal Services, Dekalb County Animal Services, or the LifeLine Community Animal Center and adopt a new companion and save a life.

If you can only bring home a dog temporarily, sign up to foster. Any amount of time helps. Get started at LifeLineAnimal.org/foster-dogs.

If you can't adopt or foster, please share this message and help spread the word.

: a snapshot of the current availability of kennel space in our shelters and how you can help us save lives.

Extremely full kennels are an uncommon sight in January. Compounded with staffing challenges, increased intake and decreased dog adoptions, our teams are working doubly hard to care for the animals in need. By adopting or fostering from any LifeLine shelter, you can directly help save lives and free kennel space for the pets arriving in our county shelters daily. In these times, we depend even more so on our community’s support. Visit LifeLineAnimal.org/state-of-the-shelters to learn more about the current state of our shelters and how you can help.

Meet Tann! He's twelve years young and can't wait to find a home of his own. He loves cuddles, outdoor adventures and will never turn down a treat! Tann's adoption fee is sponsored thanks to Litner + Deganian, P.C., who are sponsoring one pet's adoption fee for each case they close! When you visit a LifeLine shelter and see this card on a pet's kennel, it means their adoption fee is sponsored thanks to Litner + Deganian! We're so grateful for this partnership that is helping Atlanta's animals!

Pending adoption!

Older dogs need love too!

Archie is a wonderful dog. He is between 8-10 years old and 14 lbs. He is so easy going and as loving as can be! He does well with other dogs and loves to meet new people. His foster family says he is so easy and good natured. Archie is an excellent companion dog and would make someone so happy!

To adopt him, apply on www.orphanannierescue.org

Update: Herschel is safe!!

Herschel is a happy pup - you can see it in his eyes.
He was the mascot at Clayton County Animal Control for years before he found his forever family.
And his forever family is perfect.
A former law enforcement officer who loves him and takes sweet pictures of Hersch and his family.
But like any rescue dogs, Herschel came with some quirks.
He was sure scared of fireworks and when they started going off on the 5th of July, he bolted.
Herschel escaped his home and was running scared when people started calling the police.
He was shot 4 times in what must have been a horribly traumatic experience for everyone involved.
And even though he survived, Herschel and his family still had to face a judge about what happened.
Even though Herschel survived, he was sentenced to death.
The judge ruled he was a danger and his family had to turn him over to be euthanized.
I heard about the story yesterday, when he was supposed to be put down.
I was on the phone all day trying to make sense of it, but things just didn’t add up.
I’ll have his family explain here how they’re taking responsibility for what happened:

“We are not trying to get out of paying a fine, we paid it. We are not disputing he got out we admit it. We are not saying he did not frighten some people, we apologised for it. We are not saying he did not damage some property, we paid for it. But he did not hurt anyone human or beast. He does not deserve to be euthanized much less euthanized contrary to Georgia law. For us this is not about the financial and emotional strain this whole thing has and will put on us. This is a about a citizens right to due process, property rights, equal application of the law and impartial treatment by those in power. I wonder how many others who have appeared in Jonesboro City Court have received the same treatment.”

Herschel’s family has an attorney right now and so far, the pup has been grated a stay of ex*****on.
I’m following this case closely, but also respecting the family’s wishes in how to move forward.
I think any of us who have pups can understand his family is bringing up some important points, and I’ll keep digging until I get to the bottom of it.

We like to keep our social media pages happy and positive, but we need to be serious for a minute. September is killing us. KILLING US.

So far we have spent over $35,000 on vet bills just this month (and it’s only the 16th). We are literally drowning emotionally and financially. We love these dogs. They deserve the best. But, this month has been extremely difficult.

We’re asking for help. Any donation helps us help these dogs. We are extremely grateful for all the support we receive and we want to continue to grow.

Donations can be made here on FB, on our website, or via Venmo

Thank you so much for your support!

Jacob and I had a great, relaxing day together. He has spent over a year in the shelter in hopes that someone will take a chance on him. Jacob definitely requires some warm up time when being introduced to new people and will likely never be an overly social dog. He just wants to hang out with whom he deems his special person. If you’re looking for a mellow, loyal companion then I’d say Jacob is your guy! You can find him waiting for you at Lifeline Animal Project in Atlanta, GA! 🥰

Shea has been waiting for his forever home for 2 years now…

I got the pleasure of taking him for a short walk around the block today to help out his foster dad! Shea bonds hard with whom he decides is his person, but he isn’t opposed to meeting new friends! He is ultimately on the lookout for someone who is willing to provide him with patience, stability, and of course love. Shea hasn’t had the easiest life but he doesn’t let that get him down….he knows his special someone is out there! He is available for adoption through Lifeline Animal Project in Atlanta, GA! ❤️

Jazzy!
Jazzy is a 12 year old, 10 lb girl. She is dog and cat friendly and very easy going. Jazzy is sweet, affectionate, and very quiet. She loves to wander in the fenced yard at her foster home, and cuddling in a cozy bed in the sun is her favorite thing. Jazzy has a good appetite but stays slender due to her breed. Jazzy eats wet food as she lost her teeth to decay.

Apply to adopt this precious girl today!
