It is important to know when it is safe for a kitten to leave their mom. If you take them away too early, it will prevent them from receiving the nutrients they need from their mother’s milk and could lead to behavioral complications. 10 weeks is usually the safest timeframe since a mother’s milk will start drying up around 8 weeks, and a few additional weeks will give the kitten enough time to get familiar with being away from their mom. Not sure what is best for your cat? Contact us at (480) 895-3223 to set up a health plan purr-fectly tailored to their needs!

If you recently added a female puppy to your family, it's important to understand their heat cycles. Proestrus is the start of the heat period where your dog’s body is preparing to mate and averages about nine days. The estrus phase is the mating phase and usually lasts around 9 days, but can be as short as 3 or as long as 21 days. The diestrus phase occurs directly after the “in heat” stage and lasts for about 2 months. Anestrus is the uterine repair phase, in which no sexual or hormonal behavior is present, and can last for anywhere from 90 to 150 days before the next proestrus stage begins.

Dental health is just as important for dogs as it is for us. Without regular dental care, dogs can be prone to yellow or brown discolored teeth, bad breath, redness and swelling of the gums, eroded gums, and loose and missing teeth. The first tip for brushing your pup's teeth is using a soft-bristle brush or finger brush specifically designed for dogs and toothpaste made for dogs. Once you've gathered your supplies, it's time to get your pup situated.
